What is something you ate growing up that you never ate again once you became an adult?

For me it is hog maws, chitterlings and pig feet. In our household you had to eat what your parents cooked or you didn't eat. I haven't had any of those things since moving out of my parents home.

I don't blame you for a hot minute not eating those ^ things !

The only thing I can think of... those sweet tart candies in a large disc. Although I don't even know if they make them anymore.

Necco wafers? They still make them.

@Jack_Tan No omg those are AWFUL LOL They're these (i had to look them up, it's been so long)
They no longer come in 2 pack discs, and the ones sold in the rolls aren't the same as the old ones had no coating. They were SUPER SOUR LOL

@Qualia lol I don't remeber those at all

@Jack_Tan That's because they were around long before you were born ? No idea when they discontinued them. They were like hard pressed powder. I seriously haven't had one since I was a kid in the 70's. LOL

1

Rocky mountain oysters, I was tricked into eating them, never again!

Let me guess.....was alcohol involved?

@LucyLoohoo How did you know? Lol

@mikebeed Ohhhhh...just a wild guess!

SPAM

This is mine too. I know what is in it. Pass.

No one served that to me until I left home. I ate one bite. I will never do that again for anyone. I once saw leftover SPAM break a garbage disposal. The stuff is terrifying.

Braunschwieger.

Add that to my list, too. Blech!

@Zster i actually kind of liked it until I found out what it was, lol

Meatloaf - I was forced. Potato Salad - I was forced. Bad TV dinners - I was forced. Devil's food cookies - I had a bad experience with them, which left me psychologically damaged.

Of all of the reasons I've heard for being psychologically damaged, I must say meat loaf and potato salad are the most interesting, by far. 🙂 😉

@Lavergne It was the Devil's food cookies that did it. I was sitting in the grass in our back yard, with a box of devil's food cookies nearby, while coloring with crayons. I went to grab a cookie, but accidentally grabbed a crayon and took a bite. Life has never been the same.

@sfvpool hahahah.....aahh yes - the devil made me do it. definitely.

Sticks of Butter

Nooooo! Butter makes everything better!

@Holysocks Butter on something is great. But eating a stick of butter?

@ThisGuy
Now I see what you mean!

I shudder just typing this.... Spanish rice.

@JustLynnie
To each their own. I won't touch the stuff with a brick!

1

Head cheese. I was fooled once.

I literally have ''goose bumps,'' reading that. Poor you!

2

breast milk

We have a winner...

Tripe.

@Shelton yep! I kinda liked it. I just don't know where to get it now. It's been a long while.

3

Cow tongue. Fried squid.

Later on in adulthood: meats, dairy, eggs, anything from animals.

@Shelton I didn’t hate it then but now the thought makes me ill. My mom also forced me to eat/drink things with dairy milk though I’m lactose intolerant. She also made me eat tomato soup (as a kid I called it red soup and I really hated it) though I’m allergic to tomatoes.

1

Stuffed beef heart! We were poor...organ meats (heart, liver and (shiver here) tongue) were on the table at least once a week.

@Gooniesnvrdie PUKE....(she says, delicately)

2

Lamb and cow brains . Yep . ?

@Shelton leg yes . Brains no ! ?

Liver, hominy, and lima beans. The liver and lima beans were not eaten again because they are hatefully horrible. My folk were mid westerners transplanted to California, where I was born, and I never saw hominy anywhere outside of my Mom's kitchen. I assume hominy was (is?) popular in the mid west...?

OCJoe Level 6 Sep 7, 2018

hominy is, i think, southern. liver: you may dislike its bitterness, in which case nothing will help, but you may, on the other hand, dislike it because it was prepared incorrectly. lima beans; i hated them as a child. i like 'em now, but mostly the babies, and frozen beats canned (as always). i didn't like them as a child because they were mushy and flavorless. eating frozen baby limas kills those two bird with one stone! i will add that when my mom served asparagus, which i hated, it was white asparagus from a can. i guess 'nuff said there!

Crab sticks/imitation crab meat, yuck what was I thinking?!

2

Peas. We were forced to eat what was on our plate. I loathe peas and have never had them in my house. My kids only got peas at their grandparents house.

What happens to processed peas is horrid.

Especially,,,,canned ohohugh >>>body shudder<<<<

Fresh peas are very sweet and yummy, but they are hard to find.

1

Black-eyed peas, for almost 2 years had them 2x a day 6 days a week because we were broke and that was what produced best in the garden.

1

Lima beans and cow tongue.

1

Pigs ears....My description is, disgusting

0

Plain. Bisquick. Mix. ?????

Oh you mean that my parents made me eat ??? um. Meat.

1

Meat. I was raised on it, but I find it disgusting to kill and eat the carcasses of my fellow animals. So now I am a happy vegetarian.

good for you!

0

Brussels sprouts. The one thing my mother didn’t make us eat. Yuck!

I learned to love brussel sprouts. My daughter halves them and fries them with bacon. Maybe it’s the bacon.... lol

0

Liver. There was a time when that was touted as being incredibly healthy and good for you. My mother stopped cooking and eating it once she found out that organ filters out all the hormones and antibiotics and other crap they put into animal feed. I had been telling her that for years....

Oh....and I just remembered --- Garbonzo beans. My father loved them and insisted we eat them. ughhhhhhhhhhhh.
