Do you ever feel lucky or unlucky?

When it comes to luck - do you believe in it or not?

And if you don't logically believe in it - is there still some lingering feeling of luck or lack of?

Let me put it this way, I call it Lisa's law -Screw this Murphy guy.

I think there's randomness, and that's not an even distribution across the population so some people will experience more random fortunes and others more random harms, but I don't believe anyone is inherently lucky or unlucky because that implies that there is fate pulling us forward (rather than determinism pushing us onward). So I may have had some ostensibly unlucky things happen in my past, but past performance doesn't indicate the future. People who believe in luck of that sort are more likely, I think, to dwell on the bad and say, "well, I'm just unlucky, and nothing good will ever happen for me." I think ultimately it is defeatist and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. And the more we think of ourselves as victims of luck, the less likely we are to recognize or embrace opportunities as they come.

The wise one, well spoken.

This is an interesting topic. Logically I don’t believe in luck, but emotionally there are times when I feel lucky or unlucky.

I don’t believe in luck. I find the concept of chance to fit perfectly in its place and it doesn’t have superstitious baggage. Chance deals in the mathmatical probability of something happening or not.

I have a certain attitude that attracts good luck. And then I get all full of myself (ego) and ruin it.

4

Not particularly lucky. No. But there are those who are far worse off than me. So there's that.

I am amazed at my life. I know that ultimately, I can't take credit for it. It just fell in my lap, so to speak. I don't know of another word other than luck to describe it. How could I have possibly come from where I was to where I am now, physically, emotionally financially and spiritually? That is what I am talking about when I claim to be, -- God's Favorite Atheist.

I believe!

I don't believe in luck but I believe in the product of a persons hard work. Someone once saw my dad driving a Porsche and said "geeze, you're lucky"
Then my dad turned to him and said "Have you ever been shot at? Or bombed? Have you ever had to risk your life just to make a living? Did you grow up in a poor working class home with 1 room and 4 siblings?"
"No"
"Well I guess you're quite lucky aren't you"

True story

Definitely, many times I have had near death situations

I’ve often said “if I didn’t have bad luck, I’d have no luck at all”. I don’t really feel that way any more and I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve accepted and shifted my expectations or that I’ve been consistent about making better choices ergo better results.

Luck... yes I do. I've wrote a book on me in here. I believe in being in the right place at the right time knowing the right people. Example: this skinny short red headed guy was in a bind and needed help moving. I was the face in this group I belonged to and I volunteered to help him move. Others followed me. My plant shut down and i was looking for a job. This red headed guy was a high ranking key player at this plant I applied to work at. He watched me do all the tests. He chose me from 20 others that scored the same.

I didn't know he was until I saw him after I was hired. The guy I did a play with was an engineer there. I didn't know that. I tested all over but chose this place because my neighbor use to ask me questions about fixing equipment. Hmmm... was it luck... That's a debate.... I respect your answer.

I tend to have a lucky day-Thursday is usually the day something nice happens. Could be a phone call, good news or unexpected consequences. Don't ask me why?

Happy Thursday tomorrow ! 🙂

Thanks friends.

I love it-trash day lol

I have felt both unlucky and lucky. I am more than aware that it's nothing more than superstition though. I have had those feelings because they have been hard-wired to me by people who believe and constantly talk about luck. Honestly, if you think you've had bad luck, you or someone else made a bad decision that affected your own life or it's a simple variable possibility. The same goes for good luck. We all affect each other and we all need to do good things more often, sometimes we do good or stupid things that we don't realise will actually affect another person's life. This world is a massive chaotic chain reaction caused by both good and bad decisions which can cause both good and bad luck for many people. The good thing about this is that we can somewhat control this chain reaction by being better people, We can never control variable possibility though.

If it wernt for bad luck i'd have no luck at all

I believe in luck as a random title/tag we give to positive or negative situations. I have found on the street 186.00, I found with 2 other guys an envelope with 2400.00, even if 1 dude was barely known we splitted evenly. I had found a gold ring. My wallet was found in a parking lot and returned with money inside. I believe you can make your own luck acting properly. I am always looking down and observing my surroundings because opportunity will come for the seeker. Walking from a club with the most beautiful woman in the club was always seen as good luck. Finding your Lifetime Partner is The Best Good Luck. My life was spared and another life taken hours later by same individuals... That is Good Luck. My Choice for Mother of my 3 kids is My Definition of The Best of Luck. Forget the bad luck... Create the opportunity for good luck. They say "Good Luck is when preparation meets opportunity". Last time I found money... in a parking lot... I saw 2 young women looking around for something. I passed by then and started to look down... I found a 20.00 bill... seemed a car has just run over. I turned around and asked them what they were looking for... they hesitated and didn't wanted to tell me... I insisted... Finally they said they seemed to had lost 20.00 bill, I gave it to them, I pointed where I found it. Make me feel extremely good about myself that still I am able to do the right thing... I am Lucky like that. P.S. Concerning the 2,400.00 affair picture an envelope in the sidewalk with no writing on 1973 and 3 cats under 20 find the envelope.

Feel lucky in love and in life. Through love and work you make your own luck.

3

Yeah I feel lucky. I feel lucky for waking up in the morning, for my son, my partner, for myself for busting my butt to get the house and jeep I have always wanted. But mostly I am lucky to have a mother that taught me as a child the value of a dollar.

I wouldn't say "I believe in it" so much as I use it as an expression of speech.
I'd much rather use the term 'lucky' than 'blessed'.

@silvereyes I guess I was asking for that one. 😛

I believe in statistical fluctuations that feel like good or bad luck. The trick for me is figuring out what I can influence or control & what I can't. Work on the former, & enjoy or hate the ride on the latter.

3

For me? No. I've bought many lottery tickets and the most I've gotten was three dollars. I've heard people winning hundreds of dollars at slot machines, etc. Not me. So, I feel a lack of luck in the monetary department. In the emotional arena? In some sense, maybe.

3

Another thing I might add is luck is a superstition and I'm a non-believer.

3

Good question! I feel fortune 90% of the time. My bills are paid. I have food, a roof over my head, and I'm in decent health. I guess it all depends on ones perspective.

Fortunate or lucky?

Luck is s superstition and I'm a non-believer. I believe we make our own way. If it was ment to be, or not, so be it. I lean heavily toward stoicism.

3

Neither. There've been times I’ve felt ‘fortunate’ … but don’t know how closely that’s related to ‘luck?’ Example - seems nearly everyone in my new neighborhood’s collided with a deer on the highway. I haven’t. Is that due to ‘luck,’ or my sitting inside doing this ..and staying off the roads? ...and not driving like a moonshine runner ..and my near constant paranoia over a deer through the windshield 😉

You should feel lucky/fortunate every day you're alive.

Yes, sometimes I feel like I am on a roll, but try (not always successfully) to quit when I am ahead.

Oh yeah, but unfortunately I don't have it as far as gambling goes..
I know some people that win at lottery or casinos all the time.
