Agree? disagree? ((I'm surprised that they rate the ankle "low pain" ) 😆
IAMGROOT comments on May 15, 2018:
I guess I'd concur. I can only speak from my own experience. My two tats are on my left and right upper-arms and shoulders. The one on my left side wraps around half my bicep and almost all the way around my triceps and that triceps area was quite painful.

Exploring what an interruption is in conversation | Stanford News
IAMGROOT comments on May 14, 2018:
The gender bias discussed at length in the article is interesting. I would like to think I am non-biased in this way and I believe, most of the time, I'm good about that. That is; I don't subconsciously interject when a woman is speaking and am a courteous and considerate conversationalist. Of course, if it was a subconscious act, would I even realize I was doing it? IDK. I'd add to the article discussion that there could also be a certain amount of machismo involved where men are concerned and if they are the interrupter, this might be the driver. Men who consider female interrupters rude and less intelligent is just plain wrong. =\

It’s possible a higher intelligence could exist beyond on our own.
IAMGROOT comments on May 13, 2018:
Your lead-in phrase "higher intelligence" suggests, possibly unintentionally, something other than a more advanced intelligence. That is, intelligent alien civilizations that are much, much older than Humanity on Earth. I believe it's impossible for there to NOT be advanced alien civilizations elsewhere in the Universe. The probability of the existence of other life-supporting planets is just too great.

IAMGROOT comments on May 13, 2018:
The purpose of the religious liberty executive order (https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidential-executive-order-promoting-free-speech-religious-liberty/) is (implied) to promote the entanglement of religion with government, Christian religion in-particular, since that is the dominant religion in the US. It frees religious leaders to preach politics from the pulpit without fear of losing their churches tax-exempt status. Christianity and other religions are not under attack. They are the aggressors, IMHO. However, the numbers of nonbelievers are increasing because people are "seeing the light" and realizing what a huge pile of horse shit religion is. It is my hope that all of this stuff we're seeing is the beginning of the end for religious mysticism.

IAMGROOT comments on May 13, 2018:
Disney films have always been among my favorites. Movie night! What is your favorite drama?
IAMGROOT comments on May 12, 2018:
Well, the film that comes immediately to mind is Schindler's List. I love watching Schindler's transition from profiteer to humanitarian. In the end he is agonizing over how he could have liquidated things to save more people. I lose it every time I watch that. Last night, I watched an Adam Sandler movie. One of his best, I think. 50 first Dates. This is not your typical Sandler fare. While it has some of his juvenile humor in it, the story focuses on the romance between him and Drew Barrymore, a car accident victim with short-term memory loss who forgets everything she experienced the day before when she falls asleep at night. I've seen this film several times, but watched it last night and it made my cry. More than once. LOL! Another film that makes me lose it is Toy Story 3. Yes, you read that right.

I went to Singapore on a week-long business trip back when I worked for Intel which was cool. I've never been to Great Britain or Ireland and would love to go there. Been to Cairo. I've done that one too and it was nice. I'm interested in dressing up, but do to it properly is expensive. LOL! Another event I love attending is the Dickens Fair. IAMGROOT comments on May 9, 2018:
The struggle could be on multiple levels, depending upon which religious sect you're trying to escape from. In the case of Christianity, it's mostly psychological, but has the added element of social/peer pressure from everyone trying to "save" you. In more militant and controlling religions or cults, you might be literally held against your will, which is completely different kind of struggle. Thanks for posting this interesting question.

Is it 'wrong' to love more than one person at the same time?
IAMGROOT comments on May 4, 2018:
I definitely do not believe in the religious perspective of marriage. However, I do consider marriage to be a monogamous contract between two people (unless there is an agreement otherwise). I consider polyamory a lifestyle choice. I don't know how workable it is. Seems to me that polyamorous relationships would eventually generate jealousy and conflict, but I have never done it. As for having an occasional "allowed" fling to keep variety and excitement in your life, it could work, but has the same risks. Your partner might realize things aren't going well and agree to it, but not REALLY be agreeing to it. =\

I'm with you on the reality TV. My daughter loves performing arts and when Dancemoms was big, she was a fan. That was just how I referred to it (adults behaving badly). Most of those shows are like that and I can't stand them. Survivor held my interest for a while because it really is an interesting social experiment. I prefer my TV entertainment to be fantastical. Right now I'm enjoying HBO's Westworld. I'm also a fan of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. These shows have fantastic premises (well, Westworld may be not so far-fetched). I have also enjoyed Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy. These shows all have believable characters doing interesting things.

I am not a teacher and utterly unqualified to advise you, specifically, BUT, it appears to me that you were setup to fail. The prison wants to ram this thru and wants you to pencil-whip it to give the appearance of success to make the administration look good. Why were you placed into a situation where you had a compressed timeline when they must have known you were dealing with "students" who would, if anything, require MORE time, more hand-holding. From my perspective, you aren't to blame for anything. It's political.

Have YOU driven an fully electric car?
IAMGROOT comments on Apr 30, 2018:
EVs are great if you can afford them. I haven't test driven the "affordable" Tesla, but both the S and the X are far out of reach of the middle class customer. I get that you have to start somewhere and I love that Tesla has made driving EVs cool and sexy. Musk isn't the only one doing this either, he just got there first. You probably know about the Acrua NSX EV. There's nothing in production, but DAMN! =] Sadly, these cool cars are still in the realm of the semi-rich, I feel. I owned a used Nissan Leaf for a few minutes. Bought it for my GF at the time and she totaled it drag racing (just kidding). She did total it. My main concern about EVs is the battery degradation. I didn't do my due diligence before purchasing this one and it had significantly degraded already. I know this will improve. What is the recharge time on your Model S?
Is it OK to be racist against white people?
IAMGROOT comments on Apr 30, 2018:
IMHO, it's not ok to be racist against anyone. The Establishment in the US has already tried reverse racism (I just made that up, cool eh?), they called it Affirmative Action. Any time race is a factor in any situation, even with the "best of intentions" it's still racism and it's not ok. That's my more general answer to your specific questions.
Advice please!

Once Upon A Child? This franchise operates in Cali too. I'm sure there are other, similar ones. OUAC locations I've seen have been undewhelming to me. They look like Goodwill stores. But they're out there so I'm sure some are successful. Since this is a major financial investment, make sure you do your due diligence and look for other, similar businesses. Try to ascertain potential demand. Look into the franchise corporation. The supposed advantage to franchising is brand awareness/branding for your business. For that, you pay a franchise fee up front, and ongoing royalties for the use of their business name. They SHOULD be raising brand awareness through national advertising. How often do you recall seeing this company advertise? I hope this is helpful. I'm not against franchising, it's legit, but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (look at Quiznos!).

Sometimes I find an American post that I cannot understand because we have different words; or ...

"Done in" is not an unknown expression in the US. I have never known it to mean seriously ill.
Is Amazon Prime worth $119 yearly to get access to their entertainment.
IAMGROOT comments on Apr 28, 2018:
I suppose if you did the math on what your entertainment consumption would have cost you elsewhere you could make an intelligent decision on that. But if you are an Amazon shopper, being a prime member pays for itself pretty quickly with only the free 2-day shipping. The allied Prime benefits are all gravy beyond that, I believe. They are producing some good content themselves, have a lot of free content included with Prime, but also charge for a lot of content.

Did you take your kids to church when they were little?
IAMGROOT comments on Apr 28, 2018:
Despite my parents both coming from different religions, they never practiced them and never pushed them. They were very "live and let live" about it and let us find our own way in that area. I had my own period of religious "discovery" (recruitment) and rejection (my rejection of religion). By the time my kids came along I was already an Atheist. I have encouraged them to do their own investigation of religion and decide for themselves. My daughter has mostly followed in my footsteps on this and my son is more reserved with his opinion, but I believe he either doesn't believe, or seriously questions.
Best way to tell a man that I don't want kids?
