Are East Meets West Stores taking advantage of the spiritual mindset?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I like these kinds of shops because I'm a human magpie and I love shiny, pretty things.
Are you a jealous person ?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I try not to be, but it's very difficult when my depression tells me everyone else is more interesting/attractive/intelligent/etc than me.
Q: What is your favorite starch/complex carb
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I don't care if they're evil. I love them all.
Do you feel increasingly disconnected in this instant connection social media age we now exist in?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
Nope. I meet folks online and, if they're local, I meet them IRL. Not a big deal.
Unique SciFi Technology?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
The TARDIS. I've not seen anything else like it. Sure, there are knockoffs, but nothing similar seems to predate it. There are plenty of things that have time and/or space travel, or are bigger on the inside, but the specific combination of everything that goes into it is so iconic and unique that it pretty stays in Doctor Who.
In your opinion, what's a Robot?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
My definition is a machine capable of self-propelled motion, however small that motion is.
Let's share knowledge. That's the only reason we're here, anyway.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
All I have to offer is vaguely interesting factoids. Such as, non-photo blue pencils were developed for lithography and therefore are scarcely relevant any more.
Does anyone have irreconcilable differences with members of their family?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
Pretty much all of my family. They were complicit in my mother's abuse of me.
Small rural town living.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
Sounds like where I grew up. They'd also decorate the side of a specific stretch of the highway with these super-religious signs that had way too much text on them. Bloody road hazard.
DREAMS...what do you dream about?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
My dreams are exhausting, but that's narcolepsy for you.
What's the biggest benefit to dating you?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
Not a joke answer: I don't play mind games.
Peter Gabriel (4) 1982... [youtube.com]
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
It's no Signal to Noise, but it's good. ?
Why hasn't an efficient health care system been implemented?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
Completely off topic, but I like your user icon. ?
Heart breaker..
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I wouldn't know. Mine's always the one being broken.
Can you have too many books?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 27, 2018:
No such thing.
Can we quantify stupidity?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I think you'd have to start with me because I understood, like, ten percent of that.
How well do you take a compliment?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Badly. But I used to be worse. At least I don't turn red with embarrassment any more.
Are we too reliant on Social Media and digital connections?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Reliant for what?
What's the worst job you've had? Why?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Production office in a plastic thermoforming plant. They made clamshell cases and whatnot. There was a constant particle haze in the air and I went home every day with a terrible headache. The office had only just enough ventilation to make it not lethal, and there was a literal 15-degree temperature difference between one side and the other. They measured it. I was cold all the time anyway, and was stuck on the cold side and they refused to let me move to the warm side. So picture it--it's June in Illinois. I'm wearing layers, I have a space heater, I'm drinking hot tea, and I'm still blue with cold. I step out of the office and my glasses immediately fog up because it is literally 120 degrees on the production floor. Again, they measured it. To top it off, I'm in a constant somnolent daze because of undiagnosed narcolepsy, and I had to stay at that job for over a year because if I quit, the abuse at home would have gotten even worse. I was miserable.
Negging So I've been seeing some negging on here lately and I'd like to talk about it.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
You mean mister incoherent verbose makeup is bad?
Have you ever been misunderstood by someone else?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Yep. I used to be cold all the time, so I always had my arms folded. I move around a lot in order to prevent sleep attacks. And I think eye contact is uncomfortable and creepy. Because of this body language bullshit, people think they know what I'm thinking and draw all kinds of negative and false conclusions.
Anybody here also childfree?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Yep. Have been since I was a teenager and always will be.
High School Bullying
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
It varied between me being persona non grata and being bullied all through middle school and h.s. I was a funny-looking stick of a kid and was constantly called ugly to my face. Kids would constantly scratch up any pictures of me that they could get to. I was attacked several times, things of mine were stolen, et cetera. I always said the wrong things, so I withdrew until I didn't speak to anyone and then got grief for that, too.
When dating, how long do you wait to tell someone you have a disability?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I'm up front about it, as it effects (affects? Whatever) social interaction. I want to make sure she doesn't think I'm bored or a flake.
Could be this new generation is going to destroy the NRA! I think we have a wonderful group of youth...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Man, I hope so.
Who would you be in a post-apocalyptic society?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Probably dead. I'm not very useful.
Are you a Debbie Downer?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
I'm with you on everything except bottles. I always wondered what anti-bottle people expect those who adopted their kids to do. Wet nurses aren't a thing any more.
Do you have a dating pattern?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
Can a nonexistent thing have a pattern? Maybe void. Or far-off stars. I dunno. I dated an astrophysics student for ten years.
Could you consider someone a real friend, if you've never met them in person?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
Yes. I have a lot of close friends whom I can't meet in person because of distance. People don't cease to be people just because you aren't in their space.
Beauty exists in the eye of the beholder, as the Aphorism goes.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
Your loss, pal. As a lot of people already stated, most women (not 'females,' what are you, a Ferengi?) wear makeup because /we/ like it. Some dude's lofty dismissal of such isn't going to change anyone's mind. Furthermore, maybe some of us wear it because we are ugly and would rather not be stared at for that reason. But, well, as society has shown time and again, ugly folks clearly aren't human.
How old were you when you got married for the first time?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
43 and still single. I can't even get a date. Too shy and when I do force myself to speak to a lady I like I'm every kind of irritating awkward. A familiar story.
Describe a time in your life when you thought: "something needs to change before I suffocate."
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 25, 2018:
Every winter in Duluth (Oct to May) until a few years ago. It felt like the heat death of the universe and was really bad for my mental health. Two friends and I moved to WA state and share an apartment. The weather here is fantastic, but now I'm squashed under financial problems. They can't get hired and I'm disabled and we're all living on my income, which isn't meant to support three people. Everyone tells me to cut them off but I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I've been broke and unemployable and I wouldn't wish that on people I care about. That was a lot of blither. ._.
Do you 'wear your heart on your sleeve'?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 24, 2018:
One could probably say I do. I refuse to hide my emotions.
What is the most painful thing you’ve endured?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 24, 2018:
I dislocated and cracked my kneecap. It was so painful I was screaming and, apparently, turning rather alarming colours.
Growing up, & how we often destroy scientists before they start.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 24, 2018:
I think I changed my mind about what I wanted to be a hundred times when I was a kid, and when I got older I was told career aspirations 'drew too much attention,' so I stopped. Nowadays I have no idea. Narcolepsy and dyscalculia make it difficult to learn much of anything.
The subtext of texting....
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 24, 2018:
I don't think it has done any such thing. People have made the same complaints about email, telephones, and letter-writing. Texting is just another way to throw thoughts and ideas at other human beings.
Are the people around you religious? Are you the oddball?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 23, 2018:
I'm lucky in that among all the wiccans and casual xtians I'm around, they're pretty quiet about it and haven't really said much about my agnosticism.
Is it bad that I can cook?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
I think everyone should know how to cook. For self-sufficiency if nothing else.
Tea
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
If it's black tea, it had better have milk and sugar in. Any other kind depends on the tea.
Dating someone with Autism
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
I don't think I would, no. I'm not a routine follower at all, so all we'd end up doing is yelling at each other.
What's the largest obstacle that holds you back from being the person you want to be?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
Narcolepsy. Also childhood abuse.
Who Is ready for summer?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
Noooooo. Even in the PNW summer is too hot for me.
Do you have a checklist/criteria for a potential romantic partner?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
DO: Be a woman Have an income Be at least somewhat active At least tolerate Doctor Who (as it is everywhere in my home) DO NOT Use tobacco Have or want children Everything else is negotiable.
Headache remedies
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 22, 2018:
I use ice packs.
I was reading, Why Women Need Freedom from Religion and came across this bible verse.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
This quote make zero sense. It's just word salad.
Stereotypes What good or bad stereotypes have you experienced in your life?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
My education experience is scarily like yours. I love languages but can't do simple maths in my head or even on paper. So people thought I was stupid. I'm mistaken for straight because I'm femme. People think because I'm an extrovert I'm a party animal. I'm sure there are more.
Did you ever find your calling? Or, are you still looking?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
Haven't found it yet. I rolled all over the job market, from sales to medical and nothing yet has fit.
If your pet were human for a day, what would they be like?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
My cat would be one of those weirdos who perches on the back of a chair or drapes himself upside down on a sofa. He'd talk and talk and talk and want to go for a run or go climb Mt. Rainier or go haunt a curiosity shop. The kind who can eat anything and stay thin. Occasionally he'll wedge himself into an odd space and sleep. He'd climb things.
What are your pet peeves about photos on dating sites?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
I hate nearly every picture of me. So when I find one that actually looks human I stick with it for ages.
Can you live without meat?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
I probably could, but it wouldn't be much of a life.
How's your week going? What have been the good/bad/indifferent events for you this week?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
I'm finally clawing my way out of this miserable cold. I've barely slept the last couple nights with this terrible cough, but I think I might actually sleep tonight.
What do you think about this saying "there is someone for everyone?" Is it true or BS?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
I don't know. I thought I'd found said someone but she left me.
Describe your love life in one word.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 21, 2018:
Nonexistent.
Even though we have each other on this site.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 20, 2018:
My family have probably shunned me, but I don't care. In fact, I'm happier not having to deal with them. My friends are either as nonbelieving as I am, or are very accepting.
As a gay man I grow increasingly tired of the seemingly shallow attitude in the dating pool.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 20, 2018:
Sounds awful. I don't even know what other lesbians want. Everything is so vague and silent and hidden.
What is your take on claims that thought, emotions or intention can affect the physical world?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 20, 2018:
I think it's absolute bafflegab. What's worse, I've seen people use that idea to blame others for outcomes that were outside those others' control. Bad luck? Clearly you didn't want the desired result badly enough.
Why do men get so mad when they get rejected?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 20, 2018:
I wouldn't know. The one time I was asked by a stranger and said no, he just went away.
This is the single most important question
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 20, 2018:
Slytherin, y0.
I actually do have some conservative friends and I've noticed,in talking to them, that their parents...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 19, 2018:
Conservatism is, in my experience, fear of the other. I grew up in a conundrum of a small town where the prevailing attitude was very conservative, yet the population was racially diverse. Still, the white families in their nice houses side-eyed the non-white families. But where the real fear lay was in fear of education. The next town over had (and probably still has) a university, and despite it not being much larger population-wise, people in my hometown looked at them as 'city folk,' 'weird,' 'strange,' and 'lacking common sense.'. Almost all of my family, for example, considered their education complete after high school, because anything beyond that was 'a waste of money' and 'made you lose your common sense and put on airs.'. What they meant by common sense was, of course, obedience and absolutely no critical thinking at all. They're afraid of critical thinking.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 19, 2018:
Half-Deaf Narcoleptic.
What are your pet peeve markers you look for on a first date?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 19, 2018:
Open-mouthed chewing, smoking, and mumbling. I'm hard of hearing and have been all my life. Speak up or fork over the 4500 bucks for the hearing aids I'd need. I don't care about phone use. But I really dislike people sitting on their ass in front of a computer or game console for hours on end every day.
Should you ask a date for his/her credit score? Why/why Not?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 19, 2018:
Absolutely not. Credit score is not a measure of a person's worth, despite what absolutely everything else seems to imply.
I notice that a lot of non-religious folks absolutely love animals.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
Awrh, hedgie! She's adorable. :) I have a cat--a giant fuzzball full of love and not much brains, who runs everywhere and seriously underestimates his own size sometimes. I'd have more animals, but he's all we have room for in this wee apartment. I could conceivably keep just about any pet except birds. I can't get into living with birds. They're pretty, but every domestic avian I've ever met has been deafeningly shrill.
If time were to freeze for everyone except for you, for one day, what would you do?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
Look for the incongruous Police Box, because clearly something broke physics and if I'm the only one moving, I certainly don't want the monsters to find me, first.
So I had made this collage of some famous celebrity atheists, agnostics, skeptics, and freethinkers ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
Wow, I'm so unhip there's nothing that connects my legs to my spine. I recognise a tiny fraction of these folks.
Do you judge people base on how they look, talk, act, and how much money they make? If so why
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
I have to admit I do make judgements based on all of those things, some of which are based on associations or just instinct. Sure, there are exceptions, and I work hard to remember that. And then there are examples that I challenge anyone to find the good in, like the guy I saw the other day, some pasty white asshole wearing a t shirt that read 'cuck lives matter,' whom I really wanted to run down with my car, as I was driving at the time.
Do you have anyone who you can rely on to be completely wrong, so that no matter what that person ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
If past experience is any indication, the answer would actually be me. People routinely refuse to believe me, even when it's obvious that I'm correct. Maybe I just have one of those faces.
If you were raised religious, how much did you dread prayer?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
I was required to pray and I hated it. It was a chore of either rote memorization or struggling to come up with appropriately mawkish words. Even now the mention of praying just turns my stomach.
Who hates taking selfies?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
I'm terrible at taking selfies. If the prevailing wisdom is that the camera adds 10 pounds, my lack of selfie taking talent adds at least 20. Then again, I hate nearly every photo of myself regardless of who takes it, but that's BDD for you.
Self pleasure
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 18, 2018:
Nah. Not for me, anyway. I mean, my vibrator's nice, and all, but I'd rather have a person to share sexy funtimes with. However, I hate... echh... cuddling. I end up a hot, sweaty, irritable mess inside of two minutes.
Is there such thing as ugly or beauty is only in society’s perspective?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 17, 2018:
I was told I was ugly for years, so I guess I think there is such thing.
Without usng the internet, and just using a slide rule, can anyone calculate the the square root of ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 17, 2018:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, NOPE.
Do you think touching money is gross?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 17, 2018:
Nah. It's what our immune system is for.
Public speaking/performing. Terrifying or fun? I'm all ears!!
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 15, 2018:
Acting is fun. Public speaking is terrifying. With acting, I have someone else's words and direction to rely on. With any kind of public speaking, I only have my own shitty, unconvincing words.
Where do you get most of your reading in?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 15, 2018:
I don't manage much reading at all, as I routinely fall asleep after a few paragraphs. Narcolepsy sucks. I used to be able to spend hours in a book, but my meds don't seem to be working any more.
What do you think of parody or mock religions? Have you or would you join one?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
I was notified by the First United Church of Cthulhu that I was eligible to be ordained as a priestess. I'm holding out for Hasturianism.
A Bunch of Religious People Think Stephen Hawking Is Currently Burning in Hell – Friendly Atheist
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
That just makes me so angry how anyone can be so cruel. Not surprised in the slightest, mind you, but angry nonetheless.
What's the one thing you tried but will never do again?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
Dieting.
Punch a Nazi or no?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
Punch 'em. Every time. They can't be debated with.
Horns of a dilemma.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
Humans have had cats around food prep areas for literally centuries. Unless you're immunocompromised, there's nothing to worry about.
The Death of Stephen Hawking...I am heartbroken. Now he returns to the stars which birthed him.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
A very sad day.
When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
It's a good quote. I like it. All too often people don't notice the warnings about out-of-control religion and politics in these books.
Where do you fall on the autism spectrum?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 14, 2018:
I don't. I wouldn't say I'm 'neurotypical,' because between narcolepsy and clinical depression my brain does not fit the standard human mold, but I am not autistic. I realise my social problems stem from an abusive and isolating environment. My agnosticism may partially stem from that as well, but it mainly comes from realisations.
Is there such a thing as too much kindness?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 13, 2018:
Funny this should come up. People tell me I'm generous and altruistic to a fault, and I'll admit I'll give the shirt off my back to a friend who needs it. They also tell me I need to 'assert my boundaries,' but the problem I have with that is that I've no idea where to draw them when it comes to things other than immediate physical space. If I, say, leave friends in a lurch for my own financial stability, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I couldn't look in the mirror and feel as though I pass my own judgement. I've been left like that before and it was hell. I don't want to put my friends through that. But the situation as it stands is pretty stressful for me. So, yes, there is such a thing. I'm probably enabling, or something. But I hate seeing people I care about suffer.

Any amusing/amazing stories about your pets?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 12, 2018:
My cat Zoomy (full name, Zoomy T Bonkerston the Tenth) is an amusing story all in himself. He picks fights with area rugs and loses, runs everywhere, yowls at closed doors because the offend his kitty sensibilities, and I hope he's done growing because he's almost two, we think, and is HUGE. Not fat, just a really big kitty.
Ok what do I say/?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 11, 2018:
People will answer this with 'just be considerate' or words to that effect, but they're falling into the 'just' trap that they want everyone else to avoid. What they really expect is mind-reading which, as we all know, is impossible. My only concrete advice is to open doors for everyone. It's only polite. If they don't like it, it's on them. As to the rest of it, I remember my Aesop--if you try to please everyone you'll end up pleasing no-one.
If you could reinvent the education system, what would it look like?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 11, 2018:
More emphasis on research and critical thinking, less on rote memorization. More help for students with dyscalculia. And for fuck's sake, teach more than just the dates of Civil War battles in Am Hist.
Evil spellcheck
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 11, 2018:
No. It absolutely is not.
Would you get plastic surgery ? What do you think of people who get plastic surgery ?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 10, 2018:
I've had sort-of cosmetic surgery (a breast reduction done more for spine health than looks but is still considered cosmetic), and it was about as good an experience as one can say of anaesthetised procedures. I'd have facial surgery if I could afford it. I'm no oil painting and no amount of weight loss is going to fix that. In my opinion, plastic surgery only becomes a problem when one is obsessed with it.
What is the most ideal climate for you? What environment makes you happy?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 10, 2018:
The Pacific Northwest. It's nice and cool and always green!
BenefIts of books
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 9, 2018:
I like both. Sure, real books are things of beauty, but when you live in a small apartment with two other adults and their belongings and a hyperactive mountain lion that someone at the Humane Society mistook for a cat, you learn the value of how much space an e-book reader saves. Also, have you ever tried to take a dozen books with you on a plane?
Toxic Masculinity, they don't learn it at home.
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 9, 2018:
Depends on how old he is and what he did. A lot of people attribute to malice things that can be much more easily attributed to ignorance or thoughtlessness.
What is your opinion on Wiccans?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 9, 2018:
I'd much rather spend time with Wiccans/Pagans than Xtians, even with the hippie woo stuff. No Wiccan or Pagan has ever tried to convert me.
You’re as young as you feel? True or false?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 9, 2018:
Very true. And it annoys me when people the same age as me complain that they're old.
Would You Opt for Immortality? - Quillette
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 9, 2018:
Fuck yeah, I'd choose immortality. I'm pretty sure I'd never run out of things to do.
I'm deeply interested in how we can effectively change the minds of those who hold sharply ...
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I've heard that personalising a side of an issue (such as pointing out someone they know who has had an abortion) has met with mild success. It's not entirely reliable, though. I consider such debates to be pissing into the wind, but that's only because I couldn't convince a bird to fly, much less get a person to change their opinion.
Loneliness vs. being alone
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I'm a rare extrovert. That said, I have been lonely while surrounded with people plenty of times. I hate it.
A quick grammar question
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
I think the plural is also Bigfoot. Or go with Sasquatches.
How would you describe your personality?
memorylikeasieve comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Awkward, annoying, but also generous.
