Sometimes, it is mainly due to the loss of loved ones.

Alone is Much better than the deep loneliness you feel when by outward appearances you are "in a relationship" without the other party actually being in it!

I'm really okay with being alone. I don't like people all that much.
Especially the deliberately ignorant.

After my divorce, no. 🙂

Sometimes I need to be alone.

3

Nope, I always have me.

Yes, and I’m comfortable with my aloneness.

One look at the IQ distribution curve will quickly reveal just how many of the population are pretty stupid (hint: an average IQ of between 85 and 115 is not all that bright, yet 5/6 of the population have an IQ of 115 or less).

But at any rate, I came to the conclusion years ago that my mind and my heart, and this world, are not meant for each other. But a good dog fixes a lot. 🙂

Ultimately, yes. I have family and friends around me, but you are always alone in your head and thoughts when it comes to fears, worries, etc.

Just an FYI - in my experience the majority are a bunch of fucking idiots that love nothing more than throw their feces at each other like a bunch of bored chimps at the zoo. My apologies for any disservice I may have done to some of the smarter chimps. 😉

No, I don't! I'm comfortable being by myself

All my life. Im never too bored, pretty good company for myself but I wouldnt mind some extrinsic company. Any day now.

1

Of course but I don't mind being alone. I'm comfortable with my solitary company.

Yes, frequently. And at that point I must remind myself my mind is fucking with me. This is akin to my stomach growling when I'm hungry. I need to get out and socialize, if only for a moment or two, to satisfy that growling loneliness.

Not so much, with the internet and my menagerie of animals for company.

Absolute, no.

I don't think about it at all. I spend 58 hours a week working, and in my free time, I have much more to focus on than the God debate.

At the moment I'm an anti-social bastard. I'm avoiding human company at all cost, even my friends!!! At the moment, alone for me is good. Tomorrow, who knows?

Sometimes, but not all the time. Just like Raiders fans, I always seem to run into another Atheist, no matter where I go.

1

My friends are spread all around the planet, people I have formed bonds with during my travels and people who I have connected with online. The fact is that there just aren't that many people that I am willing to invest the time and energy in to become friends with and the implied responsibilities that go with friendship. Maybe you just need to broaden your search parameters.

All the time and I don't just feel like I am alone, I am actually alone and it is by choice.

On thing religion does provide, which atheism doe snot, is a social structure that provides sense of community and belonging. Of course that is the ONLY (real) positive thing religion provides for people.

I never though of it before, but as the internet provides social networks, could that be a reason why todays youth are more likely to be atheist? I will post that as a question for general coversation.

1

I do.

1

Nah, never.

1

Alone, or alone in my opinions, or lonely?
All different things. I'm usually at least one to some degree.
