Here is an interesting thought.... I am over the hill and the conversation has come up, how do I want to go? I have expressed emphaticaly quite a few times that I want to be cremated (Why?..not relevant, not the point). Surprisingly I have been receiving over my mail letters from a cremation/burial local bussines. What I am getting at is if our smart phones are really listening our private silly/crazy/immoral or whatnot conversations?..... sure as hell, I do not have any business relationship with them, neither I have spoke to them or ever been at their office. So much for a coincidence or all our personal data is out and they target the old ones closer to the grave? I think its interesting...and funny.

You want to GO by being burned? You are a crazier man that I.

Gee.... semantics. Here is the correct sequence of events...first I kick the bucket ( how, not important). Second, I get cold enough while whoever needs/wants to pay last respects or jump on my carcass then they will have a shot of their choice and then as a last step, I get burned. Any other question? ????

Another interesting speculation: between cremation and preserving the body (used to be formaldehyde -- don't know what they use nowadays) haven't we as a species taken us out of the circle of life. Over a long term period of term, say since ancient Egyptians started the practice, might not the flora and fauna end up rejecting us?

Dunno... Just wanna get burned and be done with it

I searched for travel insurance last night and now I'm getting travel insurance ads on Newsy that I access for my Roku box.

It is a product of todays algorithm. This will happen to you on your phone or on a computer these days. I hate it. Sometimes you get a call where the voice says "we've noticed that you have been looking at our products on out website." So what. That's when I hang up. Often you look at something on Lowe's website and later find Facebook is showing you this same stuff. None of it is coincidence. The moneymaker today is "goods and services." This stuff pisses me off and I still chose to pick my own. I might have been looking at handbags and gorillas Online but it is no indication that I want to buy either one.

I recently read that yes, your phone is listening, and that’s why you see ads for things that have only been mentioned in out-loud conversations.

If your phone has Siri or some other AI voice inside I have no doubt that it is listening. Same with a computer. I allow my computer to read aloud but Cortana is totally disabled and I mean I've done more than just turn it off. I also do not let the device know my location.

You could always do a test. Estimate the number of cremation conversations you had and talk at your phone for the same number of times (or more) about some product/service that you otherwise wouldn’t be interested in: e.g. chameleon veterinarian; trips to Antarctica. Then see if you get similar ads for those products.

Now that would be an interesting experiment !!!... I could keep a brief log on paper to make it more reliable.

@IamNobody I would be interested in the results.

@Dragon64 oky doky, any suggestions on a particular topic that clearly may indicate influence by the listening device?

@IamNobody: that would have be something you come up with. Any specific suggestions I provide might influence the results especially if you access agnostic on your device.

It would have be something you normally would never dream of getting an advert for. Vacation obscure country. Products for a sport you would never be interested in. maybe?

@Dragon64 I have started some crazy talk and taking time stamp notes, nothing have turned yet. Likely I am off the mark and worry too much over nothing.

They target your age group, that simple.

I think all our information is available to marketers (and others - cue the scary music).

Some places (such as Montana) allow for burial without any accoutrements. A good friend was lowered into the ground in a canvass shroud on his skis. The state only needed to know the location of the burial.

Are you speaking about these matters aloud or via email and messaging? If youre using facebook or google for the conversations that would explain it. And are the ads by mail or email?

Only verbal conversations.... that's my point, is my phone listening at all times?

Have you done ANY research online? Any pricing of cremation costs? Any conversations online (like this one)? That is most likely the source. The internet net knows everything you do.

No, not at all ...that's my whole point. There have been verbal conversations with close friends and family members and of course my phone is always with me. I am not saying it is the smoking gun but it's a possibility

@IamNobody That's pretty scary. I've heard stories ...

@GinaKay Not necessarily scarry yet, but it well could be. So far I find it interesting

I want to go standing on my feet and fighting till my last breath and then I wish to have my corpse filled with popcorn and fireworks and set ablaze on a pyre
So that I can fuck with everyone one last time. ?

That's an idea !!!.... I like it !!!!

Big Brother ( and many marketing concerns) is/are in fact watching !

Certainly feels like it

@IamNobody I'm hearing too many stories lately, that seem to confirm it.

I'm not against cremation but I hope to be dead first.

If not you would be in a jiffy anyway

One of my friends and I have this discussion all the time. I buy a particular brand of pot pies at my local grocery store and use my card and I get ads on facebook for that brand of pot pie.

As for your other question, I told my oldest I'll be dead and won't care. Do what you want and have a party.

I still use my ex- wife’s card number.
I’ll bet she's wondering about some stuff🙂

My friend and I were having this very same discussion last week. She feels that her actions are constantly monitored (within her home) via electronics simply by mentioning something out loud. ie: she might mention something out loud and the next time she sits at her computer that item appears in ads etc. It is something she is trying to track. I am not sure that I am convinced by her but I would not rule it out at this point.

At the end of the day, I would like to think it's just marketing, nothing else..... or is it?

@IamNobody Thats the 6 million dollar question.

@patchoullijulie I know !!!!!

At this age I get frequent ads in the mail for hearing aids and cremation services. I think they get the info from the state drivers license records.

That's a good possibility indeed

I overheard a man on his cellphone recently saying, “I just got new hearing aid batteries - I don’t have time for this shit!”
