I am bemused that people would talk so much about religion, mostly Christianity, on here. 🙂. I’m mainly confused about the depth of biblical discussion. It’s almost as though people take the bible as gospel. 🙂. I’m here because I don’t believe in it and I’ve done my thinking some time ago. I suppose that religious discussions are from people who are less sure of a lack of a god.
We could talk about the beauty of the world. The ugly of the world.
I’m afraid that I steer clear of religious discussion. Maybe I’m wrong.

PS; I’ve edited this to reduce the criticism. Bemused probably sums up my views better anyway.

I agree

I don’t post about Christianity, but I can understand why others might.

Scratches head So, you don't want people to talk about religion, in a group called 'Religion&Spirituality?
There are quite a few other groups that have nothing to do with religion at all. Just saying.

This most certainly is an open forum, and it would appear that it is quite multicultural. People hailing from multiple types of backgrounds and upbringings makes it pretty easy to run into religious rhetoric and discussion.

oh, don't be too mean. I am sometimes too. This is just where newbie soloists stretch their new legs. They're still not weaned completely.

I'm a bit bemused, but since I was once a believer and intense bible study changed my mind, I'm still in the occasional bible discussion. I try to hold back and limit myself because so many of these go around in circles. Believers just do not give up. They have all sorts of nonsense to try and prove their god. The reality is that there is no proof either way. I simply deal with evidence and logic. Jesus was not raised up into the clouds and Mohammed did not fly to heaven on a winged horse.

I have had this conversation in the group... you may be right about some having a hard time letting go.... seems like a simple thing to me, but I have been an atheist for nearly 60 yrs......

I agree. It’s seems like some folks here want a “church” of some sort as a replacement....

That is the impression I am getting.

So you disapprove of religious discussions. Are there any other topics you'd rather not be discussed: politics, world cuisine, footwear down through the ages? You need to tell us what will upset you so we don't inadvertently bring up something that's going to trigger you.

You know what triggers me, people who think religion isn't a topic worth discussing on an agnostic website. Religion is a global pandemic that we've managed to free ourselves from. It's worth discussing if for no other reason than to promote critical thinking to others who land here.

@Grahame I'm not saying shut up, I'm saying you should re-think the idea that there are topics that shouldn't be discussed. Everything's on the table.

It's the nature of the page title.. Agnostics kind of puts focus to why many are here, that's part of the religious spectrum and so not surprisingly the focus of most discussions. Even this post fits that when you yourself could have posted about the beauty of the world instead.

I don't disagree with the core of your post. I often struggle to think of good post for here.

Yes, there are other topics that are worthwhile however the evolution of religion is also worthwhile, for those who are so inclined.

Knowing the factual history of 'anything' is important- but the cardinal point is that religion has no bearing on reality.

@Diogenes However, the forces that shape human reality are important.Religion is a force that has shaped the culture of every society & therefore the reality. Ideas give birth to ....the signs of the times.

I wish they made agnostic a religion. I sure would love to stop paying taxes.

The Bible does not remain the perennial Best-seller bc religion, nor ignorance, bro

@Grahame well, fwiw (nothing) i suggest that that is mostly bc the Bible contains a story that few ppl ever read, about the best way to live a life, and not about religion at all, wadr. After all, it is a story about the failure of a Theocracy? And isnt "baptising ppl in the Jordan" sedition in a Theocracy? So i suggest that there is a story in there that would maybe blow your mind, too, ok. I could go on..."messiah, king of kings, saviour, lord of lords," these are all titles of Pharaohs and Caesars. "Jesus of Nazareth" = "John Doe from Nowhere" in rabbi-speak, bro

You have every right to be an atheist. But, unfortunately, none of us can stop the dialogue of the masses. The question is, how do you receive those dialogues and how much assumtion is made about the speaker?

Your not wrong, its the same reason why I don't wanna talk about the Easter Bunny.
