Yes, I understand. If I was still married to my first wife, the thought sends my stomach into a shiver, I would have endured 52 years. I would not have done this as I would have committed suicide.

I was another person. I can't imagine that I was an easy person to live with and she did us both a favour when she left. I've grown and I can only hope that her life got better as well.

It's strange to imagine how life would be still married. I only made it 29 years, but over a decade later, I barely recognize the person I was who stayed in a relationship that was so confining. I'm at peace on my own now and experience happiness every day in my freedom. I'm no longer paying for the mistake I made in my youth. Happy on my own. I recognize my freedom briefly on my anniversary date which usually goes unnoticed in my mind, but I recognize it more fully on the day I actually made that first step toward my freedom.

I proposed to a lady 18 years ago. She said yes, then promptly ran away. I'm not sure how marriage works, but it's been an easy one.

At least it's over, would have been close for me too with ex wife , thanks it ended years ago

I stand in awe of people who are married to the same person 40, 50 or even 60+ years. I was married 36, but to three different women. 8, 23 and 5 respectively. And many of those years were not happy ones.
