I have kids so I have to, but I probably still would anyway, unless I was living alone.

All my immediate family is Atheist and we put up a tree every year other family members come over for Christmas. It is a lot of fun to get together and eat big high calorie meals (prime rib this year cooked on the grill) AND dessert! We open gifts Christmas morning and drink more wine than usual. The holiday was around a long time before the Christians and it doesn't belong to them any more than it belongs to me. There is no angel on top of our tree and the Jesus police haven't found us yet.

I put up my tree before Thanksgiving, since I was hosting the feast and wanted to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy my glorious nine feet of fancy ornaments.

Very pretty!

@itsmedammit Thank you!

Have a small artificial tree fully decorated (lots of lights) that sits in a basement closet. Takes about five minutes to grab it, carry it upstairs and set it on the formal living room's elevated stone fireplace's hearth. Two smaller ceramic trees (one near the bow windows and another in the formal dining room, finish out the lit xmas tree atmosphere.

Now that's the way to do it!

@itsmedammit Easy set-up, easy tear down, no recurring costs.

I normally do. I have not this year because I got a kitten on Thanksgiving and I just don't want to deal with yelling at him and/or cleaning up after him. I'm also not really feeling the Christmas spirit this year for some reason, so I don't really care.

Ah yes, the Christmas kitty rodeo.

No tree. Too much expense, cats in residence and nowhere to store the stuff when it’s over. And.... just not interested.

That's pretty much my sentiment. I have trees and things in storage. They've been there for years.

I used to get excited over Christmas in the past but the last few years it has been meh. I'm not putting up a tree or decorating the house this year because we are hardly at the house. We did decorate the office at our business mainly for the clients but no tree because it could be disastrous with the dogs that come in. And, we are working all through the holidays even Christmas and New Years (heck, we work everyday of the year).

Meh says it for me too. In years past I have hosted my family, but haven't done so for years.

@itsmedammit In the past we might invite a friend or two, especially if they don't have family here, for lunch/snacks. Sometimes they had kids with them and we had to lock up the dogs (my dogs are big and love people but they might accidentally injure a small child from being too excited). I finally said, the dogs are our kids and our family. We don't lock up our own kids so we can have other people's kids on Christmas because Christmas is for family. Now, we just don't invite anyone, unless they love high energy dogs.

@graceylou I like your priorities!

We always put up a tree that we cut ourselves, enjoying the lights and pine scent.

Back when I put up trees, I liked how the lights transformed the house.

1

That would require time I don't have. So, no.

I hear ya on the time thing. I haven't had a tree up in years.

2

Leave it in the ground where it belongs. 🙂

Totally agree!

I have always put up a tree (fake) but I enjoy it's subtle glow more then my lamps for night time. I have lots of plants growing all over inside and out of my home and like the joy it brings me personally. I don't believe in any religon, it's up for MY own benefit.

I'm too lazy these days but did enjoy the soft lights and different mood a tree can bring.

3

It’s something my sons look forward to every year. A lot of my ornaments are decades old and are from many countries.

Looks like you have a perfect spot for the tree. I like ornaments, too, but haven't had a tree in years.

1

Nope. I have a 14 pound cat who loves to leap and climb.

Always a good reason to not have a tree.

2

I'm proud of our wierd mixture of acquired and homemade decorations. I think it encapsulates the joy and memories that a holiday tree is supposed to much more than the more professional looking ones you always see these days. The kids did most of the decorating while I was at work. Couldn't find the topper so they put a picture of the dog up and laughed for hours waiting for me to notice ❤
I hate xmas with all that I have but the tree does make happy.

Love the doggie topper!

1

I probably won’t get home for Christmas, but while I enjoy the pine smell in the house - I’d rather not deal with the cleanup

1

Because my Service Cats will get sick eating pine needles fake or real pagan or xian

Cats is a good enough reason to not have a tree!

2

i'm jewish (and an atheist). i don't put up trees. i like when they grow in the earth in their natural environment.

g

I'd like to think that most people who do put them up, use artificial ones. When I was growing up we had real trees, but I thankfully much has changed since then. I haven't had a tree up in years but always had artificial.

@itsmedammit yeah but i wouldn't want a plastic tree in my home either. i don't even like artificial plants so much lol, though they do have their uses (especially when you have cats who'd eat real ones).
