I am a 100% skeptic about all things supernatural! Do any of you hold on to any supernatural beliefs after letting god go? Ghosts, astrology, magick?

I strive to live an evidence based life.

That's the best kind of life!

Took me a while to let go of The Devil 😈

Right?! He might be harder to let go of than God!

Best answer!

Not really but sometimes it’s difficult to let go of irrational fears. Like having to at least have a sheet on me in bed so the “ax man” can’t get me. Because a cotton sheet would definitely save me from getting chopped up 🙄 Increased body temperature due to being a woman of a certain age helped me overcome that one 🔥

That's great! Better get a stab proof cotton sheet!

Not a single one.

Great answer!

Nope. Didn't have any of those to begin with.

Great answer!

@Coffeeman Those are the kind I generally try to have.

I'm aware that some people believe in the supernatural in many different forms. I used to believe all the nonsense as a younger man when I got hooked on religion. The bottom line is that gods are supernatural and there is no supernatural. Proof of anything supernatural is just like evidence for or against a god being. People that believe it usually have a confirmation bias in the first place, or they do not understand things well. To believe it you obviously want it to be real.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply!

No, but I still enjoy listening to Coast to Coast AM

Thank you!

I stopped believing every supernatural thing ever since I’ve become an atheist and it feels great

It does feel great!

I see it solely as entertainment now. Funny to see others jump through hoops to avoid bad luck or gain fortune.

Right?!

I love to read the Tarot, but more as a tool of meditation than a tool of divination. Any time I do work on my genealogy, I feel the "presence" of the individuals I'm acknowledging, but with the understanding that this could totally be emanating from my own psyche.

There's so much we don't know. I leave a crack in the window with a welcome candle. 😉

Thank you!

@Coffeeman There was something else I hadn't thought of when I first answered this.

Glossolalia!

I grew up in the catholic church, but from the age of about 18 up to age 30, I was a part of an evangelical protestant church that believed in the "baptism in the holy spirit" and "speaking in tongues". I shared this experience, and for years believed, as the rest did, that this experience was the "holy spirit moving and speaking through me".

Interestingly enough, after I had parted from the church, and completely revamped my whole belief system, I revisited that notion. It seems I can close my eyes, and re-enter that same mental/emotional state. Somehow the babbling helps get me there. I don't do it often, but I've found that the practice nips a panic attack right it the bud. And I'm not real sure how I reconcile that with what I believe today.

I like to think that there is just one reality. So I do not distinguish natural from supernatural even if anything can happen or exist. It is all part of the one reality of nature.

It's all nature! Thank you!

No

Nope. I don’t believe in anything for which there is no proper evidence.

Evidence is key!

I think my last supernatural belief was Santa Claus.

He's real!

2

None whatsoever!

Energy work. I've had too many crazy experiences to dismiss it out of hand.

What's "Energy work" ?

@Moravian Work is the product of force and distance, so there’s that.

@indirect76 Well, energy works, that's true.

@Allamanda Yeah, Reiki type stuff. I've had some pretty far out experiences. It doesn't seem to help too much over the long run, like they claim, so I don't believe you can just do energy work and be instantly healed of all your issues, but I've had enough strange experience to know there is something going on there. Just don't know what.

@Allamanda Nah, not things that can be explained by what we commonly accept as possible. Otherwise, I would believe in auto-suggestion and self-hypnosis, not energy work.

Ok, thank you!

Don't say "you know, I haven't had a cold since December "
That is asking for it from an ineffable deity

I’m a materialist as far as my world view, and can’t take supernaturalism seriously. All claims to the contrary lack any factual basis to back up the position. Still, as a literary device, I love a good ghost story! And I acknowledge the place of astrology and magic as pre-scientific attempts to understand nature, discover the laws that govern it, and find ways to manipulate them.

I like the term materialist!

1

No but bizarrly I rejected those things before I rejected religion.

Me too!

I have, when I was a kid, before I let go of religion, and twice when I was an adult. I can't explain in here, too complicated even though I know it happened.

Ok,,, thank you!

Saving people. Hunting things. The family business.

Maybe Hard core proven Science (Quantum Physics) can change your mind that thoughts can change reality

Very interesting!

I believe that we have supernatural powers in us. I have seen the power of intention and how it works. Truly what you can create your own reality with your thoughts. I'm into Hypnosis and NLP and i can tell you that somethings that you can do with those are amazing especially in healing people.

Thank you!
