I always love how ultra religious people will quote Leviticus and claim that the bible is gods word. using this as a reason to be anti-gay(leviticus 20:13) then forget about Leviticus saying that clams, shrimp and a lot of their favorite seafood is just as damning.

11:10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

11:11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.

11:12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
Has anyone else brought this up to their religious friends?

What? You don’t see them picketing the Red Lobster in your town?

If you want to have some fun with them; make up a few quotes beforehand (unless you're quick on your feet -- I'm not) that disputes their claim and tell them your quote as coming from Hezekiah 7:11, and watch them go crazy trying to find it... πŸ™‚

The Bible Jesus mentions Adam, Eve and Noah in Matthew.

Matthew 19:4 β€œHaven’t you read,” he replied, β€œthat at the beginning the Creator β€˜made them male and female,’ ......
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The Bible also has this: Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

The passages demonstrate that the Bible Jesus believed both the Adam and Eve myth and the Noah myth. By mentioning Adam and Moses, it is clear that all these figures are thought to have been real people, and not allegories or symbolic stories. Thus, the Bible authors did not know that all these characters were stories plagiarized from other myths.

The problem is that Christian dogma is utterly dependent on the Creation story being a real event, and NOT allegorical (That is a modern-day dodge). By disproving that an Adam was the progenitor of humanity, evolution proves Christianity is a lie, a big fucking lie. Evolution proves Christianity is a lie, not out of malice, nor of envy. The disproof of Christianity is an accidental corollary, an incidental conclusion!

I have read about Sumerian texts, it appears the Sumerian Creation story was the basis of the Jewish Bible (Torah) as Genesis is a redacted copy. What I find interesting is Adam is not a person but the Sumerian word for mankind. That puts it in a completely different context, but less we forget it is still merely a story, most likely a religion and that makes it a control mechanism in my opinion. BTW, that same Torah = Old Testament records Abraham as being from the ancient Sumerian city of Ur, not from Palestine. Jerusalem was a city for thousands of years before David conquered it for his people.

@ExculpatoryLover It was based upon the cult of Mithras, but there is a commonality of events in other religions, especially about the Flood. A few thousand years after global warming has caused the seas to rise again, and it may be woven into another religion.

Mormons are fond of Matthew 5:18 when Old Testament directives/commandments are attempted to be ignored.

Matthew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, oneΒ jotΒ or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."

Of course, Mormons will also ignore the prohibition on shellfish as well as other Old Testament directions saying that moderm prophets (their leadership) can set the moral code for any particular time. This is their excuse for Jesus drinking wine and turning water into wine, but today's members are ostracized if they were drink wine or other alcoholic drinks.

They do have a loop hole, since St Paul told Christians that they could eat unclean things and that those laws only applied to Jews. However that is one of the reasons that, some, sects reject St Paul. Complicated isn't it, see what a mess you get in, when you start treating randomly selected old books as holy truth. LOL

keep in mind that paul went to greece to convert the greeks to the religion of the guy he idolized. jesus (not his real name, if he existed) was a jew. the greeks said, "cut our WHAT? are you nuts? and you do know that tourism won't be our main industry for more than a few centuries yet, right, and meanwhile we subsist on pigs and fishing, right? you trying to destroy us or what?" ("son of god" they understood; they had that in spades, zeus being the randy god he was; too bad they didn't realize that paul was using an ancient jewish expression that simply meant "pious man." ) so paul had a big decision to make: which was more important, getting the greeks to do as jesus purportedly did, or getting them to worship him. the first being impossible, he did the latter. christianity is born!

So, leviticus was a dude who thought shell fish were queer. That provides a wonderfully new understanding of why those people are still so weird. 16th century clothes. Ringlets protecting their ears.
And the sea is full of gayness.

Yeah, that makes me believe. You?

Compare the biblical text laws to the United states constitution and laws in general. The constitution prohibits alcohol but then later in another amendment it was repealed. So to say, the more current laws are the ones in effect. Now consider the new testiment that says about eating things prohibited in old testiment. Acts 10:10-15 ... he fell into a trance 11 and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him: β€œRise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, β€œBy no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” 15 And the voice came to him again a second time, β€œWhat God has made clean, do not call common.”

So sky God revealed that there was a change in the dietary allowed foods.

The closest thing to a change of sexuality issue would be in Matthew 19:12 ...there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."
