You mean they have the Bible cherry-picked to them.

99% of Christians are atheist that lie and say they are Christians. So then the majority of atheist have the bible read to them, only a few read it for themselves.

Then, those atheist that claim to read the bible must be illiterate or lie about reading the bible. The bible says people are god. Atheist that reads the bible would know that they are a God and would no longer be an atheist.

So you believe everything you read then ?. What a strange world you live in.

@Moravian i don't believe what you just wrote

@Word Good, that's a start

What you're saying makes no sense. Just because the Bible says "people are gods" (your words), then an atheist who doesn't believe the Bible, who has read it is no longer an atheist? Just because a book says something doesn't make it true. You know that, right?

@Eazyduzzit it is not that it is a matter of truth but a matter of giving definition. Biblical text gives its definition for a God to be people. You could say your definition for a god is non-existant pasta in the sky with meatballs.

@Eazyduzzit not my words, but a direct quote from biblical text. Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods"'? John 10:34

@Word It doesn't matter who's words. If you define gods as "people" you're going to sew a lot of confusion, because when most people talk about God, they aren't talking about the guy down at the gas station.

@Eazyduzzit Guinness book of world records says biblical text is most copied text of its kind. Biblical text is at least 2000 years old and been constantly peer reviewed.

Most common people don't know the biblical text very well. They often make up their own personal definition for a God thingie. Each "common" person could very well have a different, albeit simular, but different definition for a God thingie.

@Word If you are such a big fan of the Bible, why are you a member of Agnostics.com? Most of us here are whatever the opposite of a fan is.
I grew up being spoon fed the Bible from when I was a small child. When I was old enough to find out it was just an old myth, I read it in a different light, much like I would any ancient story.

@Eazyduzzit some people here are Harry Potter God fans. I am a sort of agnostic towards The existence of Harry Potter style God, and Willy Wanka style God, I have no evidence that they really exist.

Just because someone is a "fan" doesn't mean they cannot be agnostic. Heck, athiesm is illogical and many people still enjoy labeling themselves as atheist.

@Word So to sum up then; atheists are illogical for not believing in gods without having evidence they exist, but you consider it logical to believe it's logical I suppose to believe that people ARE gods because an old book says so?

@Eazyduzzit To label something and give that label a definition is not illogical. The definition or, what is stated about what is labelled could be wrong, false or illogical.

"Believe in" as you say has an ambiguous definition. Ambiguous means open to more than one interpretation; having a double meaning.

I can believe in Ford trucks. It is not a matter of the existence or not, but rather I have a liking for or a preference to use or have a Ford truck.

A person can know that gods exist but that does not mean they are Michael Jordon basketball deity fans. I think there is more than enough evidence to know that basketball deity Michael Jordon really exist. Have you not heard of him flying thru the air to dunk a basketball? But, then before you try to say ... I ask, have you ever seen a fat man fly like Mike? Yes, deity/gods of some types do infact exist. Most atheist are like Christians that say only a Harry Potter style God is an example of a "real" God thingie. That is apart of illogical atheism.

@Eazyduzzit It is not required to show existence of ALL god thingies to exist for purposes of showing atheism by definition and premise to be illogical or wrong. It only requires one style of a God thingie to show athiesm wrong. I do not have to prove or show evidence that Willy Wanka God nor any other of how ever many 5000 + purported gods really exist to show athiesm illogical.

@Eazyduzzit If you understood biblical text, you would understand that as the original writings , original intended language and original theme of biblical text would indicate that Jesus character is Angelic lord of host Lucifer the devil. With the English translation, this understanding is hard to see. Jesus character is a style of god thingie that would be considered to be of the style of the angels.

@Eazyduzzit Illogical atheist and Christian's have their illogical debating both in ignorance. The biblical text is not about evidence of a Jesus style God, but rather DEFINITION of a Jesus style God. It like a dictionary is not evidence of the words it defines but it has definition that you can then go look for something that matches that definition to find your evidence.

Dinosaurs are given definition in a dictionary. Encyclopedia may be better, but from those sources you can then dig for evidence of their existence.

Biblical text defines people as gods. John 10:34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are "gods"'?

As written, Angelic characters Jesus, is quoted to know that people are gods that created Jesus character. As written, Jesus referred to himself as "son of man" because he is man made by the people- gods. The people are creators that create Jesus character.

When my daughter was about 11 she asked me some questions about the Bible and after a discussion I told her if she was interested she should just start reading it. She would read some each day till she got to Lot and came to me and advised me that she wouldn't read any more after she read that Lot slept with his own daughters. She started calling herself atheist not long after. Most Christians I know have to have each verse explained to them. No explanation should be necessary.

Exactly. If someone wrote a book like this today it would be banned in schools and probably considered adult only material.

From a bit of observation of myriad videos of people that have actually read the bible cover to cover. That was the catalyst, or in some cases the end all argument of their 'de-conversion'. An abundace of people pleading to please read that thing, nothing will spark questions more that actually reading that thing.

I was never a believer, nor religious. But at one point I too to task of reading it. I had to pause more times than I could count at just the, WTF. that doesn't make sense. all the way to. ok, that was the dumbest thing i've ever read. And there is no way that I am alone in that.
So. I have to agree. Believers, Please read that damned thing.

They need to read it without their god glasses, making excuses for every piece of immorality and inanity.

@HumanistJohn Agreed. Although some times even with the god goggles on, actually reading the whole thing will give them many parts to pause, think, and the seen is planted.

well yeah. Its the ultimate comedy book.

Also they don't have the whole book read to them. Just the parts that fit their narrative lol

Followers of "the prophet" read the Qur'an, but need to be told by Imams what and how to believe.

0

I don't read much. I have my computer read everything to me.

1

Did you read that in a fortune cookie?

0

I don't waste my time reading things that don't interest me. I prefer non fiction most of the time.

0

Very true.

0

Plus we understand and they don't 🙂

1

Not an accurate statement. As a Christian adolescent, I read the Bible from cover to cover three times. As an agnostic , then later atheist adult, I have never read the Bible again.

1

Of course! As important to Christians as knowing what tne Bible says is how to interpret it. Otherwise, Christians wouldn't be consistent in their group think misconceptions of what the Bible says, and prosperity preacher couldn't keep the cash rolling in.

5

Some one has to do the cherry picking.

0

This is very true for me. It was when I could no longer believe what I was hearing from the pulpit, and I started reading it for myself that I started down the path to atheism.

6

Yep. Studying the Bible is a good way to become an atheist. 🙂

Worked for me 😉

Shades of Isaac Asimov.

Studying the bible didn't do it for me, I just decided one day that I didn't want to go to heaven.

and interpreted on the spot by their religious authority figures.
