I am thankful that my employer has decided WFH is going to stay. We don't even have desks assigned to us any longer. We will be doing hotelling, where we have to reserve a desk before we go into the office. In 10 months I've spent one full day in a training room, and been in the building twice to exchange non working parts. I so much prefer to WFH. No driving is a plus, kitty visiting is another plus. I don't care if I ever meet my teammates F2F, it may be better that way.

I am thankful for every birthday I've had. My mom passed at age 45, I was 14. She didn't get to see me graduate, get married, or meet my children. She would have been an awesome grammie. For that reason, I cherish every birthday of mine, and my kids and grands. I will cherish and celebrate every milestone no matter how small. My 19th birthday was gas chamber training in Army basic training at Ft. Jackson SC. I even cherish that birthday. When someone complains about bad birthdays it's hard to top that one. (I gotta admit there are some awful birthdays that make mine seem insignificant.) I celebrated my mom's birthday by giving her a granddaughter on her birthday, and two of her grands have her middle name, and one of the great grands. Enjoy the birthdays, someone is glad you're here.

What are your fears today?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 26, 2022:
My deepest fears have been poverty. I had some not so well paying jobs for a few years, and tenuous employment. One of the jobs I had did not pay great (but health insurance) and the manager and team lead were weirdly close and the team lead did not like me. I did end up fired. And it was during the pandemic. The tides have turned, I have a great job now, pays better than I have had in the past 10 years. And I'm doing well, my team lead praises me frequently. I have "adjusted" to the idea there will likely never be a "significant other" in my life. I'm a liberal atheist in a conservative xian state, there is a hard limit to what I will tolerate. I am not going to die alone, I have great kids and grands, and no fortune to squabble over. They are there for me because that is how I raised them. There are worse things than living alone, I could still be living with my ex, although the way things are going I am sure one of us would have ended up dead sooner than "normal". I had fantasies about him tripping on the stairs and breaking his neck... That was when I knew it was time for a divorce. I have my hobbies, I see my kids often enough, I have my social networks, and I do what I wanna do when I wanna do it. It could be lots worse. If I decided something needs to change I will change it, but for now, I'm content. And compared to some, I'm living the high life.

I had a golden that had a good sized vocabulary, and he also was trained to hand signals. That was very handy when he got out and ran across the street. He was headed back to me when I saw a car coming. I gave him the signal for lie down, he did. The car passed, I let him up, and he came running back to me safely. He was the BEST DOG EVER. He was my favorite son.

Woodwose: a hairy wild man of the woods.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 20, 2022:
New one for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_man#:~:text=The%20wild%20man%2C%20wild%20man,Roman%20god%20of%20the%20woodlands. The wild man, wild man of the woods, or woodwose/wodewose is a mythical figure that appears in the art and literature of medieval Europe, comparable to the satyr or faun type in classical mythology and to Silvanus, the Roman god of the woodlands. The defining characteristic of the figure is its "wildness"; from the 12th century, they were consistently depicted as being covered with hair. Images of wild men appear in the carved and painted roof bosses where intersecting ogee vaults meet in Canterbury Cathedral, in positions where one is also likely to encounter the vegetal Green Man. The image of the wild man survived to appear as supporter for heraldic coats-of-arms, especially in Germany, well into the 16th century. Renaissance engravers in Germany and Italy were particularly fond of wild men, wild women, and wild families, with examples from Martin Schongauer (died 1491) and Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) among others.

An acequia (Spanish: [aˈθekja]) or séquia (Catalan: [ˈsɛkia]) is a community-operated watercourse used in Spain and former Spanish colonies in the Americas for irrigation. Particularly in Spain, the Andes, northern Mexico, and the modern-day American Southwest particularly northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, acequias are usually historically engineered canals that carry snow runoff or river water to distant fields. Examples of acequias in New Mexico have lengthy historical roots to Pueblo and Hispano communities, and they are incorporated into traditions including the matachines, life in the Rio Grande Bosque of the Albuquerque metropolitan area, and pilgrimages to El Santuario de Chimayo. The term can also refer to the long central pool in a Moorish garden, such as the Generalife in the Alhambra in Southern Iberia.

Jan 2019. Quilt for 2 year old granddaughter, just learning her colors. Her mama wanted it to be a rainbow quilt.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
