HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Where ever the hell I want or need to go. If I go shopping I try to get there before the chruch crowd because I don't wanna deal with their whiny kids. I go where I need to go when I need to go, and I'm rarely alone.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I was in Okinawa in 1977ish, and woke up one night experiencing my first earthquake. Years later in St. Louis in the 20th story of a building at a Beni Hana noticed my wine sloshing in my glass. The New Madrid fault was shaking. Later in the Tacoma area I saw the library books shifting on shelves in a library. I was playing Bridge with a group that included senior citizens and I was wondering how we were going to be able to get them out of there with all those books. No biggie, just a rumble. I lived through typhoons on Okinawa, and OMG so many tornadoes and blizzards in the Mid West. My house in Overland Park Kansas was hit by lightning in 1999. That was a shocker in so many ways. I lived on the East coast for a while and we'd watch the hurricanes playing around, though none ever hit where we were.
Has anyone visited Vancouver, BC?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I love Vancouover, got a new battery in the van while we were there. I remember the suspension bridge, loved it. I remember taking a train. We must have been there in 1998 or so, please don't do the math. I just remember I enjoyed it, and I'd go back in a heartbeat.
What is your number one favorite food? I love Indian.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
My overwhelming preference is Japanese, however having lived all over and visited many places I am game for almost every ethnicity. I've had Ethiopian food in DC, it was FABULOUS! For Mother's day the girls are taking me to the Indian Oven. I'm not ready to eat insects yet, at least not deliberately. The Cuban restaurant nearby just closed and we were sad to see it go. The only thing I don't go for is hot spicy, but I'm good with trying new food always.
Something me and my mom dreamed of and manifested into reality! Two raised beds! (8 foot by 4 ...
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I have started several avocados indoors. I had a 4 foot tall tree for a while. The trouble is, I live in Nebraska and I can't keep it outside. Where I live now has very little natural light indoors, so I gave up on the avocado trees, under duress. Flowers are good for gardens. Read about companion planting. Marigolds are good for tomatoes. And some flowers are edible or have medicinal properties.
Good night all.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:

I have always been a gardener, even living in apartment I would have a full blown vegetable garden ...
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
You're a man after my own heart. I have been shrinking the grass in my yard, grass is a waste of time and resources. I have two 4x4 raised beds right now. I have a back yard with a huge slope. If I had the finances I'd have it terraced and plant less labor intensive stuff and more food. As it is anything besides grass that is planted now washes toward the house. I am hoping in a couple more weeks I will be able to plant my tomatoes. 27 degress this morning.
I have planted tomato seeds, and weeded a lot its still quite changeable weather here in Ireland ...
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
When I woke up it was 27 degrees outside. Spring has left the building. OTOH I saw daffodils blooming yesterday, while it was snowing.

Anyone else in an unhappy relationship and don't see a way forward? Any advice?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 18, 2018:
Having been in an unhappy relationship for far too long my advice is from Ann Landers about 40 years ago. Are you better off with them or without them.
I’m an omnivore but could happily live on just fruit. What are your top three favorite fruits?

I know how hard it is to send them to the Rainbow Bridge. When the time is right, do it for her. When she no longer has quality of life. When my old girl was near the end we had a very nice sunny day and I took her out in the grass in the sunshine. She was blind, but she enjoyed the smells on the breeze and the warmth of the sun. I delayed her end so my daughters could be there, it was important to them to be there at the end. I think she had a good death. She had a wonderful life. She was and forever will be my heart cat.
Did having children change your relationship with your spouse or significant other?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 18, 2018:
I don't know if it enhanced our relationship, but it kept us together longer. My kids tell me now we stayed together too long.
So grateful for this group that I feel safe to post this.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 18, 2018:
You do look fabulous, are you considering makeup as well? It totally sucks that I have to ask that, but you have to pull out all the ammunition in your arsenal when you have a challenge. Men never have to deal with crap like this. It seems for men age means wisdom, for women it means we're not relevant.

How long have you gone without a date?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 17, 2018:
I was on a date about 3 months ago. He lied, said he wanted to see me again. Then he blocked me on the dating site. I got dressed up for a date a few weeks ago, and got stoood up. He texted that he had car trouble, then he had to go out of town, and then he was in trouble and needed $2000. That was kinda the straw that broke the camel's back.

Yeah, Babs had her moments of cattiness that I thought were very unbecoming. She's no better than the rest of them. She has partially redeemed herself in her Trump comments, but I'm not sure she was still relevant. And she gave birth to Jeb and Jr. She could'a kept her knees shut.

I am the Queen of unfinished projects. I've done better lately, but I've still got a cross stitch I was working on when I MET my ex, and we were married over 25 years and have been divorced about 10. I did finish the baby quilt, and finished it before the baby was born. Oh, that reminds me, the x-stitch sampler for my youngest baby never did get finshed, she's 26.
OKAY.

Why are you a loner?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 17, 2018:
I've always been a bit of an introvert and shy, socially awkward. And growing up poor, plump, and smater than most of my classmates didn't help, and the witch from hell that my dad married after my mom died thought we shouldn't have any life after school hours besides working. Since I was 19 I have moved over 20 times. I joined the Army out of HS to get the hell out of my dad's house. I went from over protected to wild and crazy. Then I married to a service member and got out of the service, and became a stay at home mom. The military while overseas and then having kids in elementary school and churches gave us our social life. And becasue we did move frequently it meant we lost friends at the same time. Once out of the military community I learned that cliques still exist, adults can be cruel as ever, and I was usually an outsider. Depression didn't help. I was glad when the kids were no longer in scouts or sports, or school activities. So post divorce, living alone, my kids are most of my social life. I keep to myself at work, most of my co-workers are younger than me. I don't like noisy places and I'm cheap so I avoid the cafeteria, and usually eat at my desk. I've made some acquaintances at work, ladies my age. I have a friend from a fomer job that we schedule time together, but they keep changing her schedule. I have a meet up group of Humanists that I attend some meetings. If I need a social activity I can find it, but for the most part, I am resigned to my own company. With my baby girls Zelda and Xena I have great witty conversations, a tad one sided but whatcha gonna do. I am content with the status quo, or I tell myself I am. People change when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing. I'm not to the point of changing anything yet.

For those actively looking for a companion/more where did you find your success?:
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 17, 2018:
I don't look at work, there are few in my age range, and most of those are married. I recently dropped off of all dating sites. I don't regard this as a dating site. So IF I find a date it will be completely random. I'm not holding my breath.

I miss Spooky, who was there when my kids grew up. Then Millie who took them to adulthood. Nikko my cat from childhood. He was a tough old tom in a family with 6 kids. Then Cocoa, a Siamese that "followed" my brother home from work one night. She was the first cat that I really bonded with. My sister used to dress her in baby clothes.
I’m in the process of hiring a contractor to replace the wood trim around the windows on my house.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 16, 2018:
My last contractor, OK only contractor, was my son in law. I did not pay him the total up front, nor would I pay that much to anyone I wasn't related to. I'd give him maybe 50% to start and the rest when the job is done, especially as it "will take 5 days". If you pay him up front you might never see him again. Give him motivation to come back and get the job finished. And final payment only after you have checked the work out and it is acceptable and they have cleaned up after themselves.
