HippieChick58 comments on Nov 5, 2022:
And that ain't all. Google gave me this: ca·lash /kəˈlaSH/ noun another term for calèche. Well, that is so darn helpful. The MET chimed in with this: The **calash** style was designed in the late 18th century to allow women to wear a fashionable headdress without damaging their coiffure. Hairstyles during the late 18th century were growing increasingly large and elaborate, but bonnets were still required for protection and decency. The name "calash" is derived from "calèche," the hood of a "French carriage," because the material was ruched along a collapsible cane support structure, much like the hood of a carriage. Many calashes were treated to be water-proof. This later 1820s example shows how the style endured into the 19th century, probably because of its practicality and convenience for weather and travel, rather than its fashionability. And Dictionary.com gave me this: noun Also calèche. a light vehicle pulled by one or two horses, seating two to four passengers, and having two or four wheels, a seat for a driver on a splashboard, and sometimes a folding top. a folding top of a carriage. calèche (def. 1). a bonnet that folds back like the top of a calash, worn by women in the 18th century. And apparently Calash as in vehicle is also called a Brouche.
So let's break down this quote.

No, I suspect your parents/forefathers bought into the hysteria, or did as they were told. As the god believers mostly had control it was easier to go along rather than make waves. My dad and my grandfather were doubters, but chose to go along outwardly rather than buck the establishment. They were poor laborers so didn't have much clout. I went along with the BS for a long time.

I don't want to have candy in the house, it is too tempting for me.
Cooked carrots have more vitamins absorbed by our bodies than raw.
HippieChick58 comments on Oct 29, 2022:
There are a few soups that I make during the winter that have roasted vegetables in them. Carrots is one of the vegetables i use frequently. Raw carrots have their place, fiber is necessary as well. During the fall/winter I make a large batch of soup (usually meat free) every weekend, and then portion it into 2 cup containers and freeze. During the week I choose one for lunch each day.I have quite a few recipes I use, and I'm always searching for new ones. My kids were here for dinner 10 days ago, I served Apple Cider Beef Stew. There was quite a bit left over, (I can cook for one or for 20, there is no in between) so I portioned out the leftovers for future lunches as well. I am not cooking this weekend because my freezer is full.

I just sold my 16 year old car, so I feel your pain. I have had a dead battery a few times, and I've had to call my insurance company as they send Roadside Assistance. One thing I did recently was to buy an device that will charge the battery that I can plug in in my garage. I haven't had to use it yet. My dad told me I didn't need to learn anything about cars because I'd have a husband to do that. My ex hated to get his hands dirty, he wouldn't do anything more than add oil and wiper fluid if needed. The reason I sold my car was my daughter moved to the Netherlands and did not take her car. I bought her car as it is newer than mine and it helped them out.
