HippieChick58 comments on Jul 30, 2020:
I read these a few years ago, read the dang book. My ex would bitch and moan and make a big deal about doing household repairs. One year he had to replace a fluorescent light in the laundry room, after two or three trips to the hardware store and an ongoing monologue about the difficulties he was having. Finally it was done. Sometime later I walked in the laundry room and the light went on. I made a loud comment (and he was nearby) something to the effect of "wow we have light, good job man!!" The kids saw him, he was thrilled like a kid on Xmas day. Turns out one of his needs was words of Affirmation. I always saw it as ego stroking, my attitude was "you're a competent adult, get it done." Apparently he had doubts of his competence. What I did learn from that is to express appreciation to everyone more often.

Why Religious People Are Less Likely to Own Cats
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 29, 2020:
That could explain so much, my ex never did warm to my cats, and one of my cats was so people bonded that she would love up on him. He always looked like the was encountering a dirty diaper. He sort of warmed up to the dog, but only because he could take the dog for walks and use him to meet other people to invite them to church.

What's so bad about a clingy girlfriend?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 24, 2020:
To me clingy says she cannot separate from you and do her own activities. I like alone time. I don't want you in my sewing room to distract me or get in my way when I am working on anything. Clingy says he/she wants all your time and attention, and presence, like a 2 year old who is not feeling well. Clingy says I must be the center of your attention. I'm sorry, go away, I have a good book. Entertain yourself, and when we come back together we will have things to talk about.

I came out as an atheist about 6 years ago. My parents are ok with it but they don’t understand it. We still talk regularly but the topic of religion is avoided. I’m ready to try to find people I can talk to, have conversations with, share some jokes at religion’s expense, and maybe make a few atheist friends*. She seems to be confused about what she is looking for. She is certainly pretty, and big bosom. She has gained some points by replying to her own posts, and making lots of posts. She seems to be confused whether she is an atheist or a god botherer. I'd say trust her as far as you can throw her, and keep an eye on her for the time being.

This is how I understood the meaning of "defund police".
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 21, 2020:
The police are not trained to do the work of psychologists, or social workers, or counselors. We need to stop using them for that purpose. I think defunding the police is critical, and put the funds to community good. City and county cops don't need tanks and military gear.

I generally don't drink milk, and only have milk at home if the grands are coming over. I asked one of the adult kids to bring a quart of milk to a family dinner, she brought a half gallon. The grands drank about a cup total. So I made ricotta and I have another 3 cups of whey to use up. I eat oatmeal almost every morning, but haven't put milk in it in ages. Drinking from the jug is kinda gross, the back wash can put all sorts of germs into the milk, and cause the milk to go bad faster. Even if I was in a relationship, don't drink from the jug.
Let's get real about online dating.
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 21, 2020:
In the 11 or so years I have been divorced I have tried about every dating site out there. I have had a few interesting dates, met one or two that might have been a long term, but never happened. Now I am pretty much resigned to remaining single. If the right person comes along it will have to be in person and I will have to meet that person in activities I already participate in. I'm not going out of my way to look. I live in a conservative state, so the odds of finding an agnostic/atheist gent that meets my standards are pretty slim.

Right now I am reading Humankind: A Hopeful History" by Rutger Bregman with my Humanists Book Club. We meet by Zoom now. Previously we read Blue Zones. Outside of the book club I just finished Mary Trump's book about her infamous uncle. I am a reader, and it is important to me that anyone I include in my life also is a reader. What are you currently reading is a question I frequently ask in the getting to know you stage. One guy told me he had not picked up a book since High School. That was a pass. As for movies, the last thing I watched and enjoyed was Season 2 of Big Bang Theory. I don't have cable, don't watch much TV, but I do have a Roku with Netflix and Amazon Prime. I use it lots for when the grandkids come over. Grandson watched something about bunnies when he was over here on Saturday.
