I have found that a relationship will only work where there is a high degree of compatibility in: interests, ideals, intelligence and sex drive (or lack thereof).
Any significant mismatch of these will cause tensions, which cannot always be compromised upon. One has to accept that trying to 'make it work' is not always possible, and settling for second best can be disastrous.
