What did you learn in 2020?

It's an understatement to say that 2020 was an eventual year. Starting with an impeachment trial, 2020 continued with a pandemic, BLM protests, crazy wildfires, close and heated election, and the final curtain for Eddie Van Halen and Alex Trebek. But hey, we survived. Congrats to all those who participated.

What surprised you this year? Did you learn something about yourself or others? Is it true that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger?

For those who remember the "Y2K" panic of Dec 31, 1999, this Nike commercial seems more apt for 2020. Best wishes to all in 2021!

How do you feel about 2021?

Anything could be better than 2020 and a couple of things (use your imagination) could make it a banner year.

JackPedigo Level 9 Dec 30, 2020

It's that what people were saying about 2019, and 2018, and 2017, and 2016...

@JeffMurray Sorry, another age restricted video. Either I'm not old enough LOL or I don't want to bother to jump through all the hoops and sign up for google.

@JackPedigo The video isn't important. It's just a bunch of people telling 2016 to fuck off and then John Oliver detonating a big 2016 sign. He did it again 2020 (and maybe more years as well). People do stuff like that every year because we live in a shit-filled hellscape that will continue to get worse every minute of every day until we finally achieve the sweet release of death.

I’m a realist with optimistic tendencies, and also a Gemini.
So one side of me says 2021 can’t possibly be worse, the other side reminds me that it is always darkest before it turns completely black....

Canndue Level 8 Dec 30, 2020

Also a Gemini (cusp) and outside it is dark and, in a few minutes, the sun will rise albeit through a heavy cloud cover.

A crisis ( and there were a few ) is a time to unite & boldly attack the trouble faced. Information gives us a chance to form a plan & go forward. At times we retreated ( shirked the
potential to build momentum) from issues I wish we had addressed years ago ‼
I remain ( guardely ) optomistic about the near future - realizing only WE THE PEOPLE
can do the correct & proper steps in time♒
Thanks !

I am hoping that 2021 will see me recover and overturn many external issues that have been acting like an anchor on my life. These have nothing to do with C19.

FrayedBear Level 9 Dec 30, 2020

Ditto

This is exactly the reply that I failed to put into words 🙂

@Salo glad that it helped you Jason. Just checked your profile, wow memory reopened - a long long time since Wimpeys sent me once a week to a housing project that they had on the Wirral. Its probably no longer surrounded by green fields but urban sprawl.

@FrayedBear can you remember whereabout? I may well be living on that patch!!

@Salo I've been many places since 1969. I've asked the memory to try and surface the name. It may in a few days.

I am always hopeful to the Future, time is going to unfold the way it is going to unfold 2020 just had a lot of creases in it. Roll with The changes. 😁

2021 will be more of 2020. Covid is not going away anytime soon.

As the days or years pass by as I am alive, I have come to the most optimistic view that I may not be dead yet but I am that much closer to that glorious day when I can finally be in non-existance with the non-existent flying spaghetti monster sky God and be gone from all this pathetic worldly crap that no one asked to exist in.

All things end, time is our friend.

@Fernapple Time is Death's friend!

@Krish55 Exactly, and death is our ultimate friend.

I wanted to pick "All of the above."
I am generally long-term optimistic and short-term pessimistic.

On the bright side, the Democrats take control of the Executive branch.
On the dark side, 70 million people voted for that lying corrupt bigot piece-of-shit donald tRump.

2021 will be a mixed bag.

Suffice to say, 2021 May not be a spectator sport.....

2020 proved either america is unbelievable incompetent OR there’s a behind the scenes plot to bring America down

They are not mutually exclusive. Suspect both are in play

Like QAnon?

Like maybe China is trying to beat us without military. OR, population control. OR a RESET....

Stay tuned folks, more to come

@St-Sinner
But a RESET may not necessarily be a terrible thing. Like right now we blindly follow a money system that puts you in a continuous DEBT that is impossible to beat. We revolvingly have Bubbles that burst about every decade

Can order out of chaos be any worse?

@St-Sinner Q who? Isn’t that just another bullshit construct?

@Canndue
Yes

So much will depend on what happens re Trump.

ToakReon Level 8 Dec 30, 2020

Yes, twice we made the error of being magnanimous to those who broke their commitment to the Constitution of the United States, rule of law, etc. (first was nothing done to the men who brought us the Civil War and second was the group involved with the Iran Contra Affair). As far as nothing or next to it for crimes by the elites - white male monied - this MUST change.

2021 will be far worst than 2020 in every way!!!

unfortuneatly i have that feeling too

@RoyMillar

I have no doubt!!!

Watch this it has insights that the mass corporatize media does not want us to know or see!!!

I have confidence in Biden and think he'll make a huge difference through the year. OF COURSE we'll have to get past all the SHIT that the pustule left behind and OF COURSE we'll have to deal with the cult of the GOP! But...I'm an optimist and have faith that people with brains will eventually drop the ''conspiracy'' bullshit and move toward doing what's right for the nation.

A lot depends on what happens in Georgia! If we can move the turtle aside and actually learn who's a genuine patriot in the Senate....we can make progress!

After all...it can't get much worse....can it?

I have to be optimistic...and can't be a pessimist. Nothing gets done if we're all pessimists...right?

Selfishness abounds in our world.

2021:

Trumpy Dumpty is now disempowered. Xi Jinping continues to build his personal power.

The wealth gap will continue to widen. The health gap will also continue to widen.

It is now too late to do anything about the climate apocalypse that is likely hit humanity hard in the next decade. Insurance premiums will skyrocket like a pyrocumulonimbus cloud.

The religitards of the United States of Absurdity will continue to hold sway, and they will remain in denial that China will soon be the world's largest economy.

In summary: nothing new here, move along.

I learned that almost half the voting public of the United States are racist idiots.

1

I voted for optimistic but here is what I learned in 2020:

  1. The high pandemic death toll of the U.S. surprised me. I thought America among all nations will prove to be smarter and more successful with its scientific and economic might
  2. Information technology's progress and application to work and personal lives were accelerated by the pandemic. Technology and pandemic together will change our lives dramatically in all aspects including work, socializing, dating, relationships, shopping, traveling, music concerts, sports, hotel and restaurant business etc. Life will not return to normal as was in 2019. The wise who read into this and configure their lives will do better ahead
  3. Republicans are more powerful than Democrats and we have poor, weak and lame leadership. We are led by a bunch of selfish, greedy and old fools
  4. Trump is here to stay and will make Biden's presidency painful
  5. Biden is very old, frail and used collagen during campaign, his ailments were kept hidden
  6. Experiments with socialism failed again big time
  7. Biden will do nothing to prosecute Trump, his family and cronies for wrongs they did to the nation and its people
  8. Members on Agnostic are not really freethinkers, they have conveniently picked and chosen what to take from religion such as celebrating Christmas, Christmas tree and a lot of other crap. Most are still caught up in old ideas, traditions and customs
  9. BLM, wild fires and celebrity deaths were not unusual to 2020. They happen every year
  10. Pandemic did not bring us wisdom about life goals and role models. We are still shopping like crazy with Black Friday mounting credit card bills, idolizing wrong people as heroes like we idolized and cried our hearts out over lousy low-life drug addicts like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, her daughter who had far more vices than skills. This extended to political heroes like lousy old, crazy presidential candidate like Bernie Sanders. We do not know how to pick our role models, who to adore and who to celebrate.
  11. I personally did very well in the pandemic. Worked from home since March, saved lots of money, took care of health and learned some new skills
  12. The time at home alone and peace gave me lots of time to think and reinforce my thinking lately that it is time to stop chasing money, wealth and accomplishments and begin enjoying the remainder life and begin focusing on loving family and good people around me. I will plan for more travel, charity, giving and sharing ahead. Being able to lift one young life who otherwise would not have a chance would make me very happy.

#8 is more than a bit judgmental, wouldn't you say?

@LucyLoohoo

Yes, and so are all others.

Yet another incredibly skewed question intended to direct attention away from all the unconscionable stunts committed by you RWNJ's this year, including the more than 300,000 preventable American deaths attributable to this psychotic president. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you will never fool me.
