Wow. A seemingly reasonably rationale piece from a right leaning media outlet. This must be serious. 😑
t1nick replies on Jul 16, 2019:
May be a piece of seemingly rational work, but what it is is a diversionary tactic. Instead of discussing Trump's apparent racism, he diverted by vilifying the Democratic Party as Socialist. We are talking about four Congresswomen out of over 200+ Democrats in the House and Senate. Its a cowardly pivot and a discraceful lack of intestinal fortitude.

White privilige is not an incurable disease like uterine cancer. Neither is willfull ignorance. It can be cured through becoming informed about how it manifests, how and who it impacts, and how you can change within your sphere of influence, that is if you even want to.

And no, nothing JFK or Bill Cliton did comes even close to Trumps indiscretions. A cigar in the vagina of an intern in her twenties is distasteful, but not of the Trumps magnitide. JFK's indiscretions were consensual, but immoral because he was cheating on Jackie while still in office. Neither are excusable, but still pale against Trumps.

@St-Sinner What he says is irrelevanf. He's a proven liar, so to say he says that he welcomes immigrants when its written and on the telepromter to head off public recrimination is laughable. His actions and his words when he's unscripted directly contradicts his teleprompter deliveries. The fact that he has taken the most painfull and inhumane actions to deal with immigration on the southern border when he has had more humane options available to him over the last two years. I disagree that there is any larger failings and failures than Trump's moral turpitude. It reflects on our world standing, the moral lessons we teach our children, and the very fiber of what America stands for. The world can longer trust us as a nation to actvresponsibly and morally in wirld crisis. I am not naive. Every Administration has had their failings and less than tasteful episodes. Character counts. It has elevated the US in the eyes of the world. To say that, "We elect a president and not a priest," is a crock of crap and a weak excuse for defending Trump. Obama and his Administration did not have a single scandal his entire eight years. Sorry I disagree. Trump is racist and misogynist. It is about stoking the division in the Democratoc Party and feeding his supporters red meat. He works by divisiveness and dividing people. Trump's entire adult history is a story of racism. From redlining blacks to deny them opportunity at renting in his buildings. By hiring undocumented immigrants to work on his properties and underpaying them less than their work is worth. By blackmailing the undocumented aliens he's hired to work extra long hours without pay, under threat of reporting to ICE. To promoting a cruel policy at the border to punish children in order discourage further immigration. All these charges have been substantiated and proven. He is a white supremicists and any attempt to deny that is an act of denial. Damn right its about racism. His father belonged to the KKK, it runs in the family. If these actions were the only method available to the Administration that would be different. At any point over the last two years he could have made a multitude of other choices and not have to travel this course. Two years ago, the Senate and House offered up a bill to address illegal immigration and DACA. And after promising to sign a bi-patrisan bill he walked away. His choices are both deliberate and purposrful. He chooses to the most difficult, cruel, and inhumane path. He could have made less drastic choices at any time. If his motivations aren't racist, then George Wallace was a saint.

The article states that immigration is increasing , not decreasing. At the present that is true. But her article is misleading. Immigration across the US's border was highest in the late 1970's and early 80's. At that time the Mexican economy had completely tanked. There were no jobs, so Mexican males made up the bulk of the immigrants from Mexico. They were emigrating in order to find work to support their families. With NAFTA and Clinton, the economy in Mexico improved and immigration significantly decreased. The situation today is decidedly different. The emigres today are entire families, men women, and children seeking to flee unbelievable violence and poverty. They are fleeing societies and economies run by drug cartels and paramilitary groups that we helped create by our meddling in their politics and economic structure. Yes, immigration has picked up and increased, especially since Trump took office. But it has a totally diffetent structure than 20 plus years ago. https://medium.com/s/story/timeline-us-intervention-central-america-a9bea9ebc148

@RobertMartin Do your research. The US's interference in Central America is what created this situation in the first place. Corporste monoculture agriculture destroyed local economies. We, politically and militarily backed right wing despots who bled there own countries dry and created paramilitary organizations that inflict heinous violence upon the population. We provided the weapons that terrorized their people. Then when an attempt at democracy was tried, the economy was already destroyed, so the paramilitary turned to gangs and cultivating the drug trade and now run the economy. We did that.

The most obvious scenario is that NASA will be forced to hurry and cut corners to meet the 2024 deadline and a disaster will happen. Astronauts will be killed and Trump will blame it on NASA incompetence.

@Allamanda We are not disagreeing. We are actually on the same page. Reading is a skill and one that is learned. The more you practice the better you become. The same is true for writing, math, and public speaking. I willing to bet, and I could be wrong, but I bet that your household had resources and materials available to you when you taught yourself to read. There was most likely some reinforcment within your family structue to nurture your intetest in reading. just as you are providing for your son. This is not true in many families. Absentee parents (many times unavoidable) or parents who see it easier to not argue with their child and instead let them be entertained and babysat with video games. The standardized testing is insufficient to truly evaluate the intellectual ability of any student. It was a tool designed to provide a simple method for politicians to attach a number to a school and put that number on an imaginery scale in order to dole out funds.

t1nick replies on Jul 11, 2019:
@PontifexMarximus That definition is too general and does not take into its relationship to the scientific process. In the hard sciences; physics and chemistry, the definition is as I stated above. Your definition is the lay definition and is wrong in its generalization. The word theory is used inappropriately about 95% of the time. Its used when what is meant is hypothesis.

Marionville comments on Jul 11, 2019:
Is it not actually a fact, not just a theory?
t1nick replies on Jul 11, 2019:
The word "theory" is a much maligned and misunderstood word. In the majority of cases when people dismiss or use the word theory, they really mean hypothesis. A hypothesis is an unproven explanation that is in the process of being taken through the scientifc process to determine its validity. In the hard sciences, a theory is equivalent to a scientific fact with the caveat that scientific knowledge is dynamic and can be modified as technoligy becones more precise and allow for increased precision and accuracy. In the hard sciences a hypothesis does not become a theory until it has been offered up for independent verification by peers, has been subsequently tested and verified through experimentation multiple times. Consequently as a result of the experimentation there are thousands, if not millions of data points of data that point to the results as the best explanation for the phenomenon. Therefore, to offhandedly dismiss a theory as "just a theory" is to suggest an inaccurate understanding of the scientific process. Theories are not assigned this designatory in the hard sciences lightly. Behavioral Sciences are less discrimenating with the terminolgy. I offer up my credentials for this discussion as I have degrees in both fields and have taught Science for 30 years.

But in order to address that issue with any chance of success, marginalized communities need to be mobilized, as they are grossly underrepresented in the poles. Unfortunately he went out of his way to appear not to address race related issues until Ferguson. After that he couldnt.
