Physics question . . . Incident laser light
evidentialist comments on Feb 13, 2019:
Faulty perception. Laser light is highly concentrated, yes, thus when bouncing off a mirrored surface it appears to not have been diffused, but it has. In spite of it being highly concentrated (coherent) the photons contained in the beam still behave as photons. That means that when being ...

t1nick replies on Feb 10, 2019:
@RobertMartin history has shown that as one thing wains, another emerges. There will be economic casualties for sure and that is unfortunate. There will be retraining offered for those that desire it. As far as energy goes, the more money you sink into something the faster rechnological advsncements occur. In fact before Trump tried his inept attempt to bring back coal, and hamstrung the clean fuel industry, there were from 5 to 10 times more energy jobs available in the the alternativecrnergy field that available in the coal fields. The trend had already begun. Fossil fuels demise is inevitable. The technology has reached its technological zenith. Even the big oil companies like ExxonMobil has invested heavily in alternative power. They don't advertise heavily, but family my is deeply roited in the oil industry. Hell, even I worked on the oil rigs in the 80's. There is an old axiom spoken by Spoke from Star Trek, " The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". The same axion that opetates in evolution to advance all species. Despite being a big industry, oil and gas is the few. The planet are the many. Adverse impacts due to global warming caused directly by fossil fuel consumption is endangering the planet, and thus the many. There will be economic casualties, but programs will be designed and offered to assist all those that want assistance. Nature abhors a vacuum, as does economics. The vacuum occupied by oil and gas will immediately by the alternative industry. And I assure you, you will recognize many of old players. In fact lateral movement in jobs within the industry will be the rule and notvthe exceprion.

t1nick replies on Feb 3, 2019:
Agree. Once it was considered a good thing because the dominant society was able to forcibly exercise, and the inculcated either had no power to fight back, or were afraid of retribution. Now that our countries demographics are changing, that fear is diminishing. The subjects of inculcation are fighting back and standing up to thier oppressors (mostly white society). We as a white society never really had the right to say what was a proper value and what wasn't, except by right of power. At first by weapons, then by enslavement, and finally by controlling access to finances and economics. Demographics is changing that.

t1nick replies on Feb 2, 2019:
With all due respect I disagree. What happens after birth is every bit as important and influential in the formation of personality as what they are born with. Your argument lets bad parenting off the hook as "the child would have turned out that way anyway, nothing we did had any effect on how they turned put". A false argument.

@Trajan61 How many Christians have known that have deprived poor children of their rights, deprived them of services that provided both health and food. Just look at Washington these last 40 years of Republican legislation. We have no exact figures to measure the number of women and children that have been adversely affected by Republican (pushed, subsidized, and pressured) and Evangelical groups. This legislation has been inordinately targeted people in poverty and people of color. Many of which have ended in death or medically impaired through lack of access to services that other white conservatives enjoy. While Islamists may kill sizable numbers in isolated events meant to garner attention. but Republicans and Christians kill by inches. but don't be fooled it impacts large numbers. Dead and impaired are dead and impairef. I do not condone any violent action ehether be by a suicide vest, or by legislation aimed at the less fortunate.
Science and religion seem to get along.

Modern Isreal is an apartheid state. To be against a policy is not necessarily to be opposed to the state. I support the Jewish state, just not the present jewish government.
t1nick replies on Jan 30, 2019:
@Trajan61 makes more sense than siding with you who Ive found to be hyper-reactionary and unreliable. I dont agree with the dissolotion of Isreal. Just the dismantling of the Bibi government. By any factual definition the Bibi government is apartheid. The only reason conservatives and Christians even give a concern about Isreal is they think the end of days is upon us which supposedly begins when the capital is relocated toJerusalem. If that is true, that makes Trump the anti-Christ. Otherwise, they would be out vilifying Jews, which they do anyway in private.
