In other news, no rain for weeks, which is unheard of in UK. My fruit, tomatoes etc are growing but not ripening. Apples do well with male human urine apparently so boys are pee'ing buckets to help the apples. The grass is like a tinder box and fires are raging over the Lancashire moors.

Amisja replies on Jul 5, 2018:
@ian290744 India has a huge birth rate. They do not have access to the same levels of birth control and having many children (particularly sons) is linked to manliness. India hasn't really had an established caste system since the 1930s, however a class system with Anglo/Indians firmly established amongst the higher eschelons certainly exists. In fact Indian birthrate amongst its middle classes is falling. The key is simple, educate and empower girls, provide free contraception.

Don't you understand how cruelly demeaning it is to reduce 50% of the human population to a preferred body shape? In addition, the term 'ladies' is sexist and outdated. Here's a wave from a Tommy Robinson fan ........yeah right he's not a racist !!
JacarC comments on Jun 13, 2018:
THAT IS NOT Tommy Robinson. That is why he left the EDL. To get away from them. ALL he did was complain about muslims getting special treatment. How dos that make him a racist? Please don't believe the shit lies. Do some homework. Listen to Tommy, and all those who support him.

Is this a general observation of that age group or, more specifically, one that you think particularly prevalent in nursing?

When I look at group if youngsters today, I get the feeling we are bringing up a bunch of wimps. why should nursing be any different ?
Amisja replies on Jun 8, 2018:
Well one hopes nursing...like medicine is different. The expectation is that nursing students enter a profession where they will be expected to care hollistically for others for the rest of their working lives. It can be tough, hence the huge drop out rates. I am not sure if they are any more or any less 'wimpy' than you or I. One always wants better for the next generation.

I'm a sign off mentor for student nurses in their final placement before qualifying. Amisja replies on Jun 8, 2018:
Hi Josephine, that is really interesting. I was a sign off mentor too. I am part of the team hoping to bridge the gap with clinical skills and academia. I agree with what you say but there is a real issue here. Student nurses who are either overly familiar or painfully shy. I do not doubt their knowledge. It just seems like we have almost educated them to far away from the nit and grit that is human life. One shouty patient and they become completely unstuck. I generalise as I know most are wonderful. Its just I do seem to encounter this a lot.

I am sorry but the British education system is far more competitive than that, I assure you. These are the top 25%. Its a tough course but one would think a prerequisite for being a nurse is the ability to talk.
Question on the death of Dr. Stephen Hawking
indirect76 comments on Jun 8, 2018:
The dude lived way longer than anyone ever expected. I think you are looking at this the wrong way. He made it to 76 which is a decent lifespan for anyone.
Amisja replies on Jun 8, 2018:
@DZhukovin It just isn't that simple. We can model any number of diseases and certainly on animal testing (do not approve btw) diseases can be cured. However diseases mutate, epigentics affects our vulnerability, new threats occur from industry and sadly science, changes in the environment and increased sensitivity due to decreased biodiversity and monocultured crops create alsorts of problems. We are just on the cusp of a revolution in genetic treatments both by altering genetics and genetically modifying treatments for established diseases. We just aren't there yet.
