tinkercreek comments on Apr 20, 2019:
I once saw an event like this in real life! Bucerias, lovely Mexican village north of PV, has an annual festival of the Blessed Virgin and blessing of the fishing fleet. Families pour in from the hills and surrounding towns, little girls marching in fluffy white dresses, food, music, and fiesta, you get the picture. Off the local harbor, fisherman are out in the bay, then come in one at a time, beaching themselves successfully as a sign of bountiful fishing season. Last boat to come in has a living man strapped to a cross like in the video, anticipating his safe arrival as blessing on all the others. The time I was there, the skipper had a bit of a lead foot and ran aground FAST - yep, Jesus took a face plant on the bow of the boat!! The crowd was crazed, screaming and crying (he was not badly injured, but a bloodied face) and we could not stop laughing hysterically and just ran back to our villa!

tinkercreek comments on Apr 20, 2019:
Sounds like an expected result of your brain being shaken up a bit, and experiencing a traumatic event. Being brave and getting through this is only so good as you are free of symptoms. Do you have access to ongoing care, and someone you can tell about these issues? They are as real and in need of professional attention as your physical pains, and I hope you are gentle with yourself as you work through these stages. Take good care, my dear.

My first thoughts would be that moving is typically very stressful, can often take days, and she likely feels that she needs a bit of space to focus on getting things done. When she said "I'll get in touch with you in a little while", you probably should have gone full stop with just an "OK" (instead of sending another message to read). Oops.

tinkercreek comments on Apr 15, 2019:
Too many times, though thankfully in the past. We want to be understanding, and compassionate, and want to do what we can to help or 'fix' people, which does not bode well for intimate relationships. It's easy to go into denial when you are wanting and wishing for something to work out. You and your friend can be good support for one another in spotting and avoiding those patterns.
I've gotten to know an older guy from my dance class.
tinkercreek comments on Apr 15, 2019:
An hour's drive? The writing is on the wall here, and you have NO reason to fear 'hurting his feelings" or whatever is going through your kind female brain. It sounds as though your only communication with him (hopefully) is while you are both in dance class. No need to worry about someone overhearing your calm and quiet response in simply saying "No, thank you" to his request for carpooling. If he presses you to change your answer, tell him "there are a few reasons, and one you should know is that your comments on my being sexy made me uncomfortable." When he pulls up excuses, simply repeat "it made me uncomfortable".Before the next class, practice saying these in the way most comfortable for you, so you sound clear and confident. Dance communities are generally safe and supportive, and you are likely not the first to encounter his behaviors. You can do this!
Do you remember? The puzzle to beat... pre- Rubik's Cube. 😁
tinkercreek comments on Apr 15, 2019:
I loved those!
Ok.
tinkercreek comments on Apr 14, 2019:
One month back in the trenches was enough for me, just signed off! To clarify a bit, I was finding much time and energy taken by scammers, despite quickly ID'ing them. I know there are good men out there, but there are also realities to 'aging while single'. Men my age can easily attract the attention of younger women, and older men are retired and looking for a full time companion or travel partner. Both reasonable situations, but I am in neither bracket. My, oh my, ain't life a hoot?!
PPP.
tinkercreek comments on Apr 13, 2019:
Dogs are amazing, fun, loyal and keen on being part of your life. Cats are dear and warm, have quirky personalities and require less of your time and attention. After an intended 'ever-after' relationship, I am outnumbered with 2 cats, 1 dog, ages 10-12. We are all beginning to show our age a bit now, but I still love having a 60-lb dog, big enough to hike, play and appear as protection (if they only knew!). True, there is less autonomy for their care needs, but I would never abandon and the affection keeps me at least a bit sane.
I know i've been gone a few days, i had an accident monday night.

tinkercreek comments on Apr 7, 2019:
Not on my watch - rather limiting and essentially horrid.
Sound familiar?
tinkercreek comments on Apr 7, 2019:
That is so perfect!
Is this practical or shallow?
tinkercreek comments on Apr 7, 2019:
I put that history together as a string of victim behaviors and lack of both responsibility and good sense. You have your future and retirement to look after (as we all do at this point), and to protect putting that in jeopardy is not shallow, but wise. It's still too bad, and probably feels awkward, sorry.

More people, both men and women, should be so clear and level-headed in realizing when there is neither chemistry or attraction! tinkercreek comments on Mar 31, 2019:
It really is hard when our view of friends has such clarity into their harmful patterns. You can only let her know what you are seeing, AGAIN, no different from past, and that it hurts you to see it. Whether or not you voice it to her, it looks like high time to distance yourself from her rather than continue a negative pattern of your own in following her painful choices. I'm afraid there is no real friendship in merely dragging someone along to see you destroy yourself. The one thing you could offer her is advise to find a good counselor, therapist, or support group to help her make some major changes in her own life. Until or unless that, she is destroying you an a level that is inappropriate for you both, sorry. "Do what's good for you, or you're not good for anybody."
Oh, that clears things up!

Classic, and I recognize a few of those phrases. You know they have handlers who provide a list of cut-n-paste phrasing responses? Hence, the grammatical mash, no spelling/context knowledge, and lack of continuity, without specific reference to whomever they are writing to. I don't even think they see the profile they are representing, from some who questioned my response to a direct quote in "their" profile. And yes, it provides some entertainment, though perhaps at the level of, say, popping a zit.
