Nice work on your part, staying cognizant of specific behaviors and events! At this stage of life, we can move forward more successfully by being aware of what we have learned in what does and does not work for us in relationships. Dating realities are different when you've spent a few decades on this rock, and we benefit by being honest with ourselves. Am I right, or am I left?
Tonight I had a pretty bad first and last date.

What was your worst experience with someone from an online dating site?
tinkercreek comments on Mar 13, 2019:
OK: A couple years ago I started dating someone and things were going well over a couple months. We had attraction, similar backgrounds, values and interests in common, having fun and getting along well. He asked me/brought me to an RV dealer to help in the final pick of a travel trailer he'd been planning, and we talked about places to see & visit. Shortly after he took delivery of the trailer we decided on a nearby campground and an extended weekend, though he would go over on Tuesday to get set up and enjoy some quiet time to work on his art. We texted & chatted a time or two after he got there. I worked a half day, prepared food, packed up, and hit the road on a sunny Thursday afternoon, looking forward to the weekend. Sent him a text about halfway there for ETA, and what I got back was "can we talk on the phone?" Bluetooth up, called, and he answered with an odd affect. He went into some description of thinking the time alone was helpful, he really just wanted to spend the rest of the week on his own, think it's really best . . . and I was dumbfounded. It was only then I allowed myself to think about the communication since he'd been there: long delays before returning text messages, quick & quiet conversations that seemed very uncomfortable for him, yep. What a sweet deal, setting up a little holiday with the option of switching one woman out for another, depending on how things went!

tinkercreek comments on Mar 7, 2019:
Had he said he would call later, to hear what you would like to do, this would be different. Given that he asked you to go out without that qualifier, he should have had a plan, or at least a few suggestions for you to choose from! It's not a gender issue, as anyone who asks another out should behave the same, just a courtesy.

tinkercreek comments on Mar 3, 2019:
I do think it is rare, but (hopefully) possible. Most importantly, you made your views and wishes clear and he actively disrespected you in that. Best be done with this venture, I think.

tinkercreek comments on Mar 1, 2019:

I went on a lunch date yesterday for my birthday.
tinkercreek comments on Feb 27, 2019:
Oh, my dear, thank you for the clever narrative, and Happy Birthday, fellow Piscean! Your disappointment is our great giggle, and a learning for all on clarifying important details before meeting. Trying to be polite has no place in the vetting process, and neither does withholding information!
I posted about a guy I met for coffee a week ago tonight who wasn’t feeling it after meeting.
tinkercreek comments on Feb 26, 2019:
I must say, 5 days is not a long time, and it sounds quite nice that he would contact you. Lack of chemistry is not always the end-all, especially as you must have had a few commonalities and shared viewpoints, yes? Maybe consider the value of a casual friend or activity companion, and who knows - one of you may introduce the other to a friend better matched! Take a breath! You could always call back after a few days and apologize for being sick-grumpy?

Online dating has been an infuriating waste of my considerable efforts and hopes.
tinkercreek comments on Feb 25, 2019:
The websites can be used as a gateway for presentation and contact, but reading through profiles and communicating people for verification is all on us! Being willing to make as much as a 60 minute drive to increase your odds is also an important factor.

tinkercreek comments on Feb 24, 2019:
Or perhaps, just exclusively deluded.
What's a "date"? I keep seeing the word.
tinkercreek comments on Feb 24, 2019:
I think we're experienced enough as a society to be done with the sexist patterns of the male, of a male/female interest, being responsible for asking, planning and paying for a "date". It can be fun and flattering, but I've found it uncomfortable to be on the receiving end of this, just doesn't seem fair or healthy. Now, if someone offers, and is both financially capable and emotionally comfortable with the arrangement, it can sift out fine, and perhaps start an exchange on 'hosting' shared activities. Aren't we ready for this?

tinkercreek comments on Feb 23, 2019:
I have encountered many people online who seem to be profoundly depressed, and/or unable to carry on a measure of reasonable banter. Some open up a bit upon meeting in person, though never really to a point different than the online presence. My logic says that by engaging in the written online experience, one should be capable of communicating in writing. Silly me.

tinkercreek comments on Feb 21, 2019:
Ah, the song of my first love - I was so naive at 15! My parents were proud that I'd been chosen as the youth delegate for a convention, when in the registration line a dynamic man with full afro and stars-n-stripes overalls began talking with me. We spent a fair amount of time together that weekend, I learned how to kiss from the best, then he returned to Seattle and we began a correspondence with occasional phone calls and visits. He taught me of politics and pride and living for who you are. He sent me poetry and clipped verses, and I felt valued and respected as I never had. I will never understand how I was unaffected by my parents' discriminatory fears, or that of my lily-white little home town. Wasn't until many later I learned that my mother had taken and discarded many letters that she retrieved from the mail before I did, likely the last few he ever sent. Wow.
Without a doubt!

does anyone here have A flutter or fib?
tinkercreek comments on Feb 16, 2019:
In my 20's I worked as an ECG tech, which made me aware that the fluttering I sometimes felt in my chest was not normal - surprise! It was just benign atrial activity, a reassuring confirmation. Years later, my response to life stressors created a few episodes of runaway fast heartrate, the last one thinking I would not survive. Evaluation then found a previously unknown congenital condition, AtrialSeptal Defect, and I opted for surgical correction, which worked great. 20 yrs later, another huge stress and I flipped into Atrial Fib. I am one of those who feels that immediately, though not everyone does. We tried 2 cardioversions (paddle shock), which did not work. With a previous surgery I was advised against an Ablation and began taking Tikosyn, which has worked well for four years now. Any questions, I'm happy to field!

My goodness, are you referring to those few recent online notes to me, 3000 miles away? I would hope if you are seeking a genuine relationship you might begin conversations with women close to your area, that you could easily meet and get to know. You seem like a kind and genuine person, someone a true and genuine woman would be happy to discover at 'yet another' coffee date! I would wager that I am not the only person to find many complications in trying to make the acquaintance of someone even 100 miles away. All the best to you, Ted!

Who was that
tinkercreek comments on Jan 27, 2019:
When I meet someone and am focusing on their personality, demeanor, history, or concerns, I often miss the name, so will simply confirm their name at whatever point I am unsure of it. That can be predicated by something like "I know you're Tom's friend who makes lovely pottery from your garage, but could you please remind me of your name?" I think it's more appreciated by someone to know they are remembered for who they are, over what they are named.

Taking the time to make peace with your self and better understand your own priorities will open doors in so many ways! I finally realized that the stress of constantly 'searching' for a partner created a different persona than my true self, blurring my impression of others. It is no wonder the men I met would soon appear entirely different, and less appealing, than I had thought them to be!

"Drama requires your participation to exist." Opinions invited.

Dating is harder after 50. Here's why.... [thepowerofsilence.co]
tinkercreek comments on Jan 17, 2019:
As emotive beings of any age, our inner state of longing for connection is often at odds with acquired wisdom, life experience, or any cerebral learnings. Having experienced education, marriage, child-rearing, career, dating, single-dom, grandchildren and various stages of serenity over a few decades I find it entertaining and often comical that some continue to run the relationship gambit well into their 70's. Every interaction is a fresh relationship. Each conversation is an open door to delights as yet unknown. Venturing out to any crowd presents a kaleidoscope of humanity and kindness waiting to be expressed. Holding expectation of singular recognition and recompense from another soul most often creates a damaging tension. My greatest learnings are in letting go, honoring myself, and finding the joy in others. My greatest efforts are in holding focus to do no harm. Wish me luck!
