My diet doesn't feel like I'm dieting, yet I've lost 73 pounds. Thus, I mentally whip myself for not suffering; the monologue in my head is something like this, "I should be hungry to loose weight, I must be eating too much! You shit, shape up."

Good for you to have lost so much already. How much more are you aiming to lose? I am aiming to lose 40 pounds, at approximately 2 pounds a week. Are you able to exercise or go for a walk? That often makes you feel better about yourself, even if it doesn't shift much weight.

I'm doing arm exercises daily for about 20 minutes. I have a long way to go. I dieted for years unsuccessfully, beating myself up, you know the routine probably. Anyway, my Dr. recommended a vegan diet. It took a while, not easy, but mostly eat only vegies now. I credit eating a rainbow of vegetables to satisfying my hunger. Though, people are different and it may not make everyone less hungry, eating the rainbow is good for health.

@EdEarl I'm not vegan or veggie, but I eat a lot of vegetables. Eating the rainbow is good, hot or cold! Sounds as though, like me, you are not very mobile. I ought to do arm exercises, too. Do you use weights? You are right - I have been up and down for years, but this time I seriously have to get the weight off or they may refuse to operate on my hip and I am desperate to get walking again. Our weight problem is a life sentence which is very depressing, so we have to support each other.

Once was 450, have lost more than 73 lbs, going for 200, have a about 170 to go.

@EdEarl Well done for being so open and honest. Please feel free to message me for a chat if you want support any time. I know what it is like. You are making progress. I weigh in on Sundays. I will let you know if I have had a good week. Let me know how you get on.

Well sounds better than my diet. I feel like I'm in a constant state of hunger 😀. Oh and congrats!!

The food you're eating is probably too dense... has too many calories due to fats and sugars, but not enough volume to satisfy the stomach and brain. EdEarl and I are knocking-off 70+ pounds without pain by eating less-dense foods... more veggies, less animal fat and sugars. watch this video... it may save your life: [zputlocker.com]

@mtnhome my guess is I need more veggies. I'm probably eating too much protein (only lean meats+no cow products). My dairy has been replaced by plant alternatives. I only drink water and seldom have any desserts or much of anything with the bad fats: trans/saturated. I eat some fruit. I have less grain-based things than I used to have, and never eat white bread or pasta or rice. Is it a low fiber problem maybe?

@mtnhome Forks over Knives also on youtube and Netflix.

@AustinSkepticus Sounds like your eating habits are pretty close to mine. I eat many meals (and many days) with no animal protein at all, but enjoy many veggies like broccoli that are good protein sources while still being low-calorie. My two animal protein sources are salmon and poultry breast and I trim the hell out of them for ANY visible fat/skin. One thing you didn't mention was processed foods. I work hard to avoid 99% of them. We just have no idea what all those chems are doing to us, so I TRY to stay away from all. And avoid salt! if I get hungry I have a bowl of cooked-up and spiced cauliflower/broccoli/cabbage, or a salad with no high-fat items. No limits on those... eat a ton! Nearly impossible to walk away hungry, or ding your program. Use an accurate electronic scale in the kitchen. Keep a journal of consumption and weight. You can almost always see where you can make easy changes without much sacrifice. You NEVER need to feel hungry if you focus on high-fiber, lo-cal veggies. You're doing great! Wish I had done this at your age instead of 3x your age!

@EdEarl Yes, I know, it's also on youtube and netflix, but the link I gave is FREE for EVERYONE. You don't need to pay or be a member with this link... just go watch it folks! It will change your life if you pay close attention! DO IT. [zputlocker.com]

@mtnhome youtube is free also

same, my dieting ALWAYS feels like dieting. I really hate it. Then hate myself for breaking it.

DNA testing for a hypoglycemic diet is a way to get a diet tailored to you, specifically. I've not tried it, but there seems to be good research to demonstrate it works. Time will tell.
