While you might roll your eyes over this now, wait 10 years and see if it isn't true. Men or women of the group, could you have an intimate relationship with a machine/robot? I don't mean just a physical relationship either. Your thoughts?

Well I have a vibrator so that's one step on that journey

True !and I started developing feelings for someone online. I knew I would never meet this person so that's pretty close too

It really depends on whether it comes with the batteries included.

If it was completely sentient, and was emotionally stable, yes. This is something many humans are not.

Well, there already are sex toys of all kinds, including some with smart technology. And animatronic sex dolls are on the market.

Heck no, couldn’t imagine that at all.

i think lots of people developed feelings for their pc's and laptops.. while having cyber-sex.. and such. Im not sure if that woujld be included in an intimate relationship. I guess as the technology gets more advance and robots look more human.. it will only increase but of course it won 't be totally give and take. I guess human relationships aren't always give and take either ?

Many people, guys mostly, that have a love affair with their automobiles, etc.

@Agamic I happen to love my car, it’s a sweet ride

@Green_eyes

Ah, but is it an "intimate" relationship? ?

@Agamic absolutely not, that’s ridiculous. I haven’t named it or anything. It gets enough pampering when I hand wash it.. lol

I became very attached to my sewing machine...even gave her a name and cried when she finally died. So, yeah, I think maybe I could become attached to a lifelike robot if it was like Data on Star Trek or Bishop in the Alien series or Kiva in Dark Matter...as long as it was smart and interactive...I have become fond of Alexa, wishing her good evening and good morning...

thinktwice Level 8 Nov 25, 2018

@onedayatatime I have found that many, especially people alone and the elderly, talk to her and use her more than just a source of information....they consider her as part of the conversation...I have heard many tell me jokes that Alexa have told them...as if she was indeed, a real person.

It would be an improvement on what i got now

Me? No, not likely. Others, and ever-more than today, yes I can see it becoming its own thing. Especially for a generation that socializes with a screen but is poor at interaction with live humans.

Mitch07102 Level 8 Nov 25, 2018

My thoughts exactly...

3

No, there's no substitute for a real human being.

bleurowz Level 8 Nov 24, 2018

Said the HIV virus.

@Countrywoman If that was my criteria for foregoing human contact, that would be incredibly pathetic. I don't just sleep with people blindly and I take precautions.

Not while humans still exist... Especially my current bf...

Intimate relationship, sure I could. I will always prefer the human element which will be unpredictable yet extremely familiar. I don't think AI will advance enough in my lifetime to mimic that.

If I could design the damn thing I would consider it.

I’ve seen videos of modern sexbots, and honestly, no thank you. I actually prefer my hand. I can fantasize better with my eyes closed. Then what’s the point of the bot?

Relationship? Are you kidding?

Maybe someday I’ll say differently, but it would have to be good enough to fool me, physically and intelligently.

I don’t even get turned on by sexy real women with low intelligence.

Funny, that the physical aspects are not as intriguing for me as the possibilities for discussion. Depending on how well the AI algorithms are written, it might be fun to chat with a bot even now. At the rate that my loved ones have been sickening and dying, such might be what I am left with some day.

Zster Level 8 Nov 25, 2018

@onedayatatime that sounds like marriage to me

Seems like little imagination here. Conversations are already possible. Movements are possible. Manners have been programmed for decades. Lots of small examples of ai are ubiquitous right now and people don't know or realize it. Imagine a partner that can answer all your questions accurately. Even simple stuff... "honey, what can I use to substitute butter in a recipe?" Google already does that. What's the weather going to be like this weekend, let's plan a picnic "It might rain on Sunday, so let's do it Saturday." Weather.com. The endless uses of siri, Alexa, Google. It's already here, maybe not the physical robot, but everything else. And apparently people love it. Look how attached people get to their electronic devices. Wait until they can cuddle too!

Only if it could teach me things I don’t know, which I doubt.

And obviously I don’t mean facts, but how to live better.

I'm totally down with it! I don't have much luck in the dating world so this might just be the answer!

If the AI was sentient and human-like in every way, I don’t see why not.
