Does teaching "white guilt" also cultivate a "white pride" backlash?
t1nick comments on Feb 17, 2021:
Its not about feeling prideful in accomplishments of your white ancestors. Its about how you demonstrate your pride. Do you do it at the exclusion of recognizing the accomplishments of other groups? Do recognize the context in which those accomplishments were attained? At what price to other groups did it cost? White pride, white privilege is a hold over and manifestation of Colonial Imperialism. During the Age of European Exploration, the primary countries exploring and and colonizing tended to be extremely xenophobic and extremely chauvinistic and ethnocentric. There goal with regard to the population was to assimilate the cultures they encountered. And if the could not be assimilated they were to be annualized - genocide. Generally the local populations were exploited and used to exploit the resources that existed within their lands. White privilege is the last hold out of our European heritage. For the first time in this countries history, minorities are reaching significant numbers that they can wrest power back from the white population. Its alright to be prideful of your heritage. But know the history and context. Know what the cost was and who paid that price.

Every Democrat is essentially a swing vote. With a 50/50 split and the Vice-President as the deciding vote, any Democratic Senator effectively becomes a potential swing vote. I suspect Manchin was sending a signal to the Progressives. Also Manchin represents a state Trump took by 40 points.

History has shown that no outside power has ever won or made a significant difference in Afghanistan. The British were driven out in the 1800's at a great price to their military and economic. Afghanistan essentially brought down the Soviet Union. Attempting to keep up with the US in the area, the Soviet economy became too overstretched which was a major cause of the USSR nation. Now the US is learning the same lesson as Great Britain and the Soviet Union. Politicians now efute the claim that our purpose there, besides chastising and destroying Osama bin Laden and the AL Queda network, was nation building. We know that is not true. The rahrahs of the time thought Afghanistan deserved Democracy, whether they wanted it or not. The disparate tribal structure of the cultures In Afghanistan does not make for a conducive structure to implement and sustain a Democracy. Too many of the cultures are either self-contain theocratic or tribes invested in the poop trade and do not relish an outside government interfering with their business.

BDair@ Most of the research I saw reinforced the fact that masks did help in lessening transmission. Not all, but a significant portion. That is why social distancing was coupled with the masks for greater protection against transmitting the virus. Hydrxychloroquinie [HCQ] was never truly found to be effective. All the studies that touted HCQ as effective turned out to be flawed and failed the basic requirements for the scientific process. I cannot speak to Remdisiver, as I have not done the research. But your arguments are sounding like those of a conspiracy theorist. Talking to my brother last week, who is a Republican,, he, like you, is opposed to Fauci because Fauci wore two masks after being vaccinated. The primary reason he desired to discount Faici's advice was do to optics. Because Fauci returned to pushing masks, he didn't like the look of two masks. Forget the science, it doesn't look good to skeptics, so discount it. I cannot see into Fauci's mind. As I remember the events that unfolded the first spring and summer of COVID, due to the misinformation by trump, Pence, and Azar, a push was needed to try to get the messaging back under control. It was necessary to convince people to practice social distancing and wear masks. The disease was approaching 400,000 and climbing in the US. Outside of Pence, the task force committee was worried and began pushing back after trump's bleach debacle.

I have been aware of racial discrimenation all my 67 years. I guess I've been "woke" all my life. Lol.I lived among and in the midst of minorities and marginalized communities all my life. Here is a definition of "wokeness": Woke is a term, originating in the United States, that originally referred to awareness about racial prejudice and discrimination. It subsequently came to encompass an awareness of other issues of social inequality, for instance regarding gender and sexual orientation. Now I don't know about you, but sounds a really good thing to be if you ask me. Awareness and consideration is not a bad thing. Even if the whiny snowflakes thinks its unmannly. Lol. It seems to me that a naval force that is aware of how inequalities exist, and working upon that knowledge come to respect their fellow seabed for who they are. It would foster a lot more commraderie and cohesion among the ranks. That would cut down on the discriminatory hazing, segregation based on race, and racially based attacks among the ranks. The ones that are inconvenienced are the ones not worthy of representing our country. Their white privilege should not be supported, directly or indirectly, by the military structure.

Background on Patheos: Patheos is a non-denominational, non-partisan online media company providing information and commentary from various religious and nonreligious perspectives. Upon its launch in May 2009, the website was primarily geared toward learning about religions through a reference library and other peer-reviewed resources on 27 global religions and worldviews. In its current form, the site also hosts more than 450 blogs in eleven "Faith Channels," offering commentary and news from these perspectives in topics including politics, institutions, culture, sacred texts, history, lifestyle, entertainment, family life, and business. Patheos is the largest English language religion and spirituality site in the world, while the Catholic, Progressive Christian, Nonreligious, and Pagan Channels constitute the largest web presence for their respective traditions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patheos — Last week came the announcement that religion site Beliefnet has acquired Patheos, the far more popular home of a wide variety of religious blogs, include a vibrant Pagan channel. While Beliefnet also once hosted Pagan bloggers, since being acquired by the Christian-focused BN Media company, those writers all eventually moved on. With the new purchase, it has been stated that plans thus far are to keep the two sites independent of each other. A Wild Hunt investigation into BN Media buying Beliefnet in June, 2016, disclosed the company’s focus: BN Media seems to be a different sort of owner, if their two largest initiatives, Affinity4 and Cross Bridge, are any indication. In short, it seems they are a conservative “family friendly” Christian group. All you have to do is pay attention to all the subtle buzz-words. . . . It doesn’t paint a very rosy picture of future interfaith interactions and diverse viewpoints on Beliefnet. https://wildhunt.org/2016/09/beliefnet-acquires-patheos-pagan-bloggers-guardedly-optimistic.html

A proclivity for abstract thought gives the human species the ability to philosophize about things beyond mere survival drives. This same ability allows humans to shape a projectile point from a common cobble, or a steel beam from nodule of iron. The last morphological increase in human brain capacity to 1500 cc, saw an increase in the logical-mathematical parts of the brain. This advancement increased the abstract thinking abilities, but did little to the reinforce the instinctual aspects of the brain. As logical-abstract thinking dominated, a greater attention in this area began to subvert the evolutionary instinctual messages that keeps a species "fitness" for their environment. The greater our successes in suppressing nature and separating ourselves from our instinctual selves, the more dysfunctional we became. Evolution doesn't necessarily work on a specific time line. We have been evolutionary unfit for our environment (the planet) since the advent of agriculture allowed for permanent settlements. There is a point of diminishing returns and evolutionary processes will reclaim the species. Either through extinction or massive population reduction worldwide.

Do atheists overreach?
t1nick comments on Jan 10, 2020:
IMHO, morality and ethics originates in our biological instincts and the social structure of our species. Humans are just another species on this planet. All species act out of an evolutionary imperative to pursue those actions that lead to the greatest "fitness" for the world and environment in which they reside. This attention to maximum fitness works at the genetic molecular level as well as the macroscopic societal level. It makes little sense for a species to pursue a strategy that reduces their chance at species propagation and survival. That would be counter-productive and ultimately disastrous leading to extinction. Human society is no different. Morals, values, and ethics originate in a need to have a common set of behaviors that govern how a group of humans interact and behave towards one another and their environment. They most often operate from the unconscious self. Our understandings were realized early on in our species evolution . Back in the dawn of human evolution, the human species was a puny organism compared to its predators and its prey. In order to survive, instead of evolving wings, or talons, or claws, etc., are revolutionary attribute was an enlarged brain which allowed for abstract thought. But, being puny, in order for our survival we needed to evolve a complex language pattern for communications. This advancement allowed humans to form a complex and cooperative society. Not only did was it used for cooperative hunting strategies, planning and execution. but also for protection from large predators. Therefore, society is not only necessary, but is part of our evolutionary DNA (the single biggest reason Libertarianism will never succeed). But for any group or society to survive and maximize its evolutionary fitness for continuation, it must have understandings for how organisms in that system interact. Anything less leads to species unfitness and extinction over time. Now its true, humans have managed to separate themselves from nature, their environment, and their jnstincts through their technology. That doesnt mean that the instincts aren't there and operant. IMHO, social morays, values, and ethics are nothing more than our instincts giving us directions on how to maintain evolutionary fitness unconsciously. Doesn't mean we always listen to the on the conscious level.

Clinophobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of going to bed. Sufferers from clinophobia experience anxiety even though they realize that going to bed normally should not threaten their well-being. However, because they worry about having nightmares or wetting the bed, they often remain awake and develop insomnia. Insomnia then can become a real threat to their well-being. "Clinophobia" is derived from the Greek "klinein" (to bend, slope or incline, as one does during sleep) and "phobos" (fear). Unfortunately, is is postulated that this will actually inspire authoritarian and dictatorial leaders around the globe to follow Trump's example. I.E. to solicit outside assistance in gathering dirt on their political opponents, inventing conspiracies to cover it up, and to claim their right by the insistence that they are justified because their intent was in the best interest of their country (The Derschowitz Doctrine). It will also serve to widen trust gap between us and our allies as they percieve a leadership in this country that has no limitations or constraints.

Well said. We need to appreciate their athletic achievements and nor get stuck on the sexual aspect. It's this type of conservative body shaming that keeps this country a male privileged and dominated culture. Loosen up.

Has anyone heard of Gaia? I so please tell me your experience
t1nick comments on Feb 8, 2020:
Gaia is the synonym for a "Living Earth". There was a movement in the late 90's and early 2000's whose philosophy was that the Earth is alive and everything on it is interrelated. It's still present and there is a website and organization promoting this philosophy. A lot of New Age members glombed onto Gaia. Having taught Biology for over two decades, I believe that all things are inter-related, but I prefer not to rise it to the level of a religion.

Why would they end Trumps fascism. They are his staunchest supporters and lackeys. The Moral Majority is neither moral, nor a majority. They just whine loudly. Falwell' Moral Majority has been replaced by the Tea Party, the Freedom Caucus, and white Evangelicals. The younger Falwell is half the man of his father, who was foul enough. Liberty University is nothing more than a Christian madrassah.
I started to study Philosophy as I wanted to see if there was any answer to ‘What is the meaning ...
t1nick comments on Feb 11, 2020:
Being able to ponder the question of "what is the meaning of life" is a luxury of the few. The average individual has little time for meandering the posits and postulizations of the scholars. The demands of putting together a living day to day occupies their waking thoughts. When they do take the time it usually involves giving over their conscious thoughts to a religion to save them.from the uncomfortable state of unknowing and the unpredictability of their future. Philosophizing is the realm of the more fortunate.
In making this post, I am not being highly critical, but merely making an observation.

I have not sweated over religion in over 45 years. A marriage and ex-wife, that's a different story. Lol. However seems that to some religion is so integral to who they are or who they see themselves as, that they'll beat into the ground while saying they do not believe. A useless waste of time, energy, and intellect. IMO.
Good morning all.

General McCraven's response to the removal of DNI chief McGuire yesterday after reporting Russia's interference in upcoming election; "When good and women can't speak the truth, when facts are inconvenient, when integrity and character no matter no longer matter, when presidential ego and self-preservation are more important than national security ---- then there is nothing to stop the triumph of evil". McCraven is the seal leader that led the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Lol. We did not evolve from them. We evolved contemporaneously. Our common ancestor was in the Mesozoic. Apes are not our ancestor, nor are we theirs. After the Mesozoic split, each species went it's own way.
