May this have something to do with why Israel gets billions and the US infrastructure is crumbling?
t1nick comments on Jun 25, 2019:
No. The fault lies in Trump, not the Congress. Trump is playing games. Their Jewish association has nothing to do with the Infrastructure debate. In fact, in my experience, the Jewish people I have known are infinitely more empathetic to social issues than their non-Jewish counterparts.

t1nick comments on Jun 25, 2019:
Not all things have to be related back to the Holocaust. A concentration camp is a concentration camp, "a rose by any other name" and all that. Not all of the German camps were death camps. All the camps were heinous places and immoral, just as our detainment camps housing the children on the border are today. That is what happens when you privatize interment facilities. Vetting of employees is substandard and oversight is lax. We had Interment camps during WWII which were immoral. Conditions may have been better than the camps in Germany, but still immoral. A concentration camp is a concentration camp regardless where it is located

t1nick comments on Jun 21, 2019:
In the last Presidential election cycle, Trump used as a talking point the concept that immigrants (not refugees, which was a sudden and unpredicted crisis) from Syria were poorly vetted. That was exactly that, a political talking point, but in reality, a lie. Most of the people that had applied for immigration status had been on the waiting list for at least two years and have participated in at least six vetting interviews.

t1nick comments on Jun 21, 2019:
Overseas Immigration vetting normally takes a minimum of two years. Central America vetting has been been disrupted by the situation at the border. Nothing in the Constitition about American citizens needing an ID to vote. So many conservatives clamber for original interpretation of the Constitution. No mention in the Constitution, therefore not appropriate to demand such. That's a voter suppression move.

t1nick comments on Jun 18, 2019:
Perhaps. What I percieve on this site there is a small very conservative group that hold all the same political stances and values as any staunch Evangelical. The only difference their selfishness manifests itself as not wanting the church, a God, or anybody else to tell them what to do, what to think, or how to act. They profess agnosticism/atheism as a way of shedding any or all accountability to anyone or anything. An easy way to assuage their guilt by not having to answer to anybody. They're basically Evangelicals withour the guilt, but same old prejudices.

I do agree that PC can be overdone, and it seems that people gave become thin skinned. But in genetal they are justified. Afterall, the boors have been discrimenating, insulting, and dehumanizing these persons for decades, if not Centuries. They finally found themselves in a social setting where it is alright to stand up and drmand respect, and positive recognition. The anti-PC boors just don't like being called to answer for their boorish and condescending behavior.

t1nick comments on Jun 17, 2019:
In the Sociology (not Socialism - lol) of Education we talk about the hierarchy of the Elementary and Secondary Education model. According to this model, schools are designed based upon socioeconomic and social status. Schools in the inner city and in rural areas where the income is lower or substandard, students lack adequate resources to support or reinforce the opportunity towards upward mobility. Thier lessons are designed to reinforce following directions, meeting deadlines, not questioning superiors, and answer rote or non-open ended questions. The curricula is geared to making the cogs to feed the machine. They are being trained to work on the factory floor, work in the service industry, or fill out the bottoms ranks of the societal workforce. Plus fill out the lowest ranks of the military machine "the grunts". Suburban and middle class teaching strategies are geared somewhat higher in their aspirations. This group is given more open-ended questions. They are still taught to follow instructions and meet deadlines, but they are given the opportunity to have some input and make limited decisions. This group is being groomed for middle management or small business ownership. They are also encouraged to enter the military, but aspire to the lower and middle officer corps. Lastly, the upper class is given a more rigorous and challenging curriculum. They are asked to make decisions and defend choices. They are expected to be involved, motivated and competitive academically. It it generally expected that these children will be the pool from which the next leaders will be drawn. They are expected to be top lawyers, doctors, and stock brokers. Now exceptions occer at all levels in this hierarchy. Involved parents can motivate their child to achieve despite disadvantages (nurture). Prodigies and exceptioal talents occur within all the groups (nature). Likewise, learning disabled and slower students also occur at all levels. More recent teaching strategies have changed this socio-economic model of education. But it hasn't eliminated it, just lessened the more insidious aspects of this formulae.

Its called a calculted risk. When the Republicans Impeached Clinton, at the next election, they lost several seats and control of one of the houses they dominated. As it presently stands, Republicans control the Senate. Should Impeachment go forward, it would take a 2/3rds majority in both houses to actualize. Right now, the leader of the Senate refuses to even let it be brought forward for a vote should the process go forward. Coincidently with that, if it failed in the Senate and Trump wasn't successfully Impeached, he and his cabal would claim Democratic harrassment and his total exoneration. The converse argument is to allow the law suits go forward. Slowly win the cases at court and get incontrovertible evidence of a felony. Once corraborating is in, then go forward with Impeachment. Final argument. begin Impeachment proceedings to give grester teeth to subpoenas. Expose evidence and get the greater part of the American public to get on board with the Impeachment.

Does anyone else struggle with hating religion?
t1nick comments on Jun 16, 2019:
I gave up religion 45 years ago. But needless to say I carried resent against believers for years. This was especially true when I was home with my family, as I had to pretend, or at least thought I did. I'm not sure when, but eventually I became inured to religiosity. As a teacher I have to put up a front, as I teach in a Native community. There are a number of ceremonies that involve a prayer or reference to a Christian God. I just bow my head and wait patiently for the event to end. I no longer fight that battle. Since I don't believe in any religion or religious paradigm, I can't see wasting time on something that doesn't exist.

t1nick comments on Jun 15, 2019:
Interesting article. On a side note, so often humans ethnocentrically assume that humans are superior to other organisms because of our brain development. But evolution doesn't work that way. One organism is not superior to another. It isn't a competition for phylogenetic superiority of any one species. Instead each organism is superior in its niche. Each organism had evolved those attributes that makes it supremely "fit" for the space in the habitat it occupies. When those attributes no longer serve to keep the organism supremely "fit" within its niche, that organism either adapts (through a number of evolutionary mechanisms) or goes extinct. Simply because humans have been able to articially modify their environment to adapt to them, as opposed to the other way around, does not make our species automatically superior. In fact just the opposite. We are a much more fragile species then most. On top of that, we as a species have advanced to a state of "unfitness" that just might be spelling our demise in few generations. *For those of you unfamiliar with evolutionary terminology and jargon, I have put quotes around the word "fit". This is perhaps one of the most important terms in evolutionary theory, as well as being one of the most misunderstood by the lay public. " Fitness " to ones environment is the one key element that determines whether a species continues on or goes extinct. It implies a positive compatibility and relationship with all of the aspects that the species interacts with and depends upon. For generations, people have made reference to the "survival of the fittest". This has nothing to do with who eats who, or as in business who can consume the most competitors. Rather what it refers to is the most "fit", in utilizing its positive attributes to maintain its evolutionary viability. The Social Darwinists got it all wrong (eg. Trump and associates).
They could have handled that better....

I disagree with your conclusion in the sense that the time frame your suggesting (loosely implying) I think might be too short of a time and the interactions too infrequent to cause the evolutionary development you suggest. Its almost a Lamarckian perception. By that it almost like saying, "Because my neughboring species is bigger than me, I'm going will my species to get bigger". Evolution does not operate like that. Now, sexual selection may have into play, in the sense that larger individuals had a better chance at surviving an encounter. But that is suggest that the interactions between competing groups was constant and regular over multiple millennia stimulating a selective advantage for size and muscularity. No proof that the interactions and intraspecies competition were of that nature. Size and muscularity increase was in response to a multitude of evolutionary stimuli.
What an idiot! Man tries using a clearly fake license plate.

The fun thing about Vonnegut is that often a character he creates in one novel makes cameos in his other novels. He is the master of this. In his novel, "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater," Vonnegut introduces his character, Kilgore Trout (1965). Trout is an unsuccessful pulp fiction soft porn author. In the novel, Breakfast of Champions. Trout is finally given a literature award for one of his porn novels. After the Award ceremony, Vonnegut chases down Trout as himself. Accosts Trout and admits that he, Vonnegut, is Trouts creator. He realeases Trout as his own entity. 6 months later Trout comes out with a soft porn novel (in reality) by the name, "Venus on the Half-shell".

They equate white privilege with the concept that some person or some agency is supposedly going around handing out money (literally) to people who are white just because they are white (technically, in one sense thats true when you compared the hoops minorities have to jump through to get a loan). They insist that since they never got a virtual hand out and they are white, white privilege doesn't exist.

The thing I couldn't understand, was, we lived just 25 miles from a Supermax prison where the worlds worst criminals are being incarcerated. There is a private prison system of everything from miminum security to maximum security facilities a couple of miles from the SuperMax. Pedophile Alert identified multiple persons living in a 25 mile radius of us. Why would anyone want to advertise how many children and their approximarmte ages given these circumstance. Befuddles the mind.
