Republicans Accidentally Send Letter To Wrong CEO In Attempt To Thwart Jan. 6 Probe

Apart from being stupid, these lawmakers clearly have a conflict of interest when it comes to getting at the truth of January 6!

Athetits? A new term for nonbelievers with breasts?
Why is it that most atheists seem to define themselves by hating religion or religious people?
p-nullifidian comments on Sep 5, 2021:
Welcome back! As a nonbeliever, I identify as a nullifidian: a person without faith or religious belief. As a former believer, I am not hateful towards anyone for their religious belief, until that belief creates in them an attitude of certitude that they are somehow special or chosen because of that belief, that this faith of theirs requires special consideration by the State, and that the rest of us who don’t believe as they do are damned. People who hold these attitudes, as I sadly once did, are among the most arrogant, self-centered and self righteous jerks on the planet.
Orbers are trying desperately to convince flat-earthers of the truth.
p-nullifidian comments on Sep 5, 2021:
I used to think the best way to convince a flat earther of reality would be to put them in a rocket and ask them one more time if they still believed the Earth is flat before opening the airlock! But then came Covid and the same type of people are dropping dead from the disease while looking their caregivers in the face and flat out refusing to accept the fact that the virus is real or that the vaccine could have prevented their suffering. It would appear that stupidity and willful ignorance are incurable for some people, and much like religion, they are ready and willing to die clinging to their stubborn belief! The only ‘cure’ for stupidity would seem to be death.
Don't say yes, when you can say no by constitutional law and human rights.

Whether it be gunshot wounds, overdoses, strokes, embolisms, or a sore throat, ERs always prioritize, based on the severity of the condition. If someone is code blue due to an overdose on Ivermectin and they happen to out-prioritize the gunshot victim whose wounds are not life-threatening and is in stable condition, I would say that is an effective and appropriate prioritization. That people are overdosing on anything, whether it be OxyContin or Ivermectin, is a significant problem in this country, however no one’s forcing them to open their bottle of pills. With just about any substance (including alcohol), each of us has a limit—a point at which we can no longer remain breathing. Anyone who consumes more than they know they should is playing Russian roulette.
Getting the basics behind the Texas law
p-nullifidian comments on Sep 4, 2021:
An irony I may never understand is how these conservatives who hate the government telling them what to do, much less other ordinary citizens, are willing to put into law a process where the government, aided by a prying citizen, will literally reach into a woman’s uterus to claim possession of that part of her body from the moment of conception. These Don’t Tread On Me die hards somehow think it is okay to tread all over a woman’s reproductive rights! And just how are these private citizens, who will be allowed to sue a woman who chooses to have an abortion after six weeks, to learn of her choice to terminate a pregnancy? Whatever happened to the principle of doctor-patient confidentiality? In thumbing its nose at HIPAA, Texas seems to be saying it approves of communist states like North Korea or China where average citizens are encouraged to monitor their neighbors and to report ‘unsanctioned’ behaviors! Is this the outcome they want? Have the people of Texas lost their minds?
Oh the irony.

The ramifications of electing Republicans to office extend well beyond the Austin statehouse. Because a member of the Republican Party was elected to the White House, and was propped up by a narrow Republican majority in the Senate, this country has been saddled with the burden of a Supreme Court that will continue to support these egregious state laws, eventually overturning Roe v. Wade!

p-nullifidian comments on Aug 26, 2021:
Attempting to reform orthodox religion from within is a bit like giving medicine to the dead. All religious leaders know that to truly reform their faith is to kill it, not that I am against such an outcome, mind you! As I understand it, this woman could be legally divorced and could remarry without any concern of bigamy, other than how her orthodox religion viewed it. In western societies, one is free to join or leave a religion, or even to form a new one. Asking the state to intervene in a religion’s practices or beliefs just because one doesn’t like how they are affected (assuming no impact to one’s health or safety) is a bit like asking to change the rules of a game when you’re unhappy how it’s going. Just quit the damn game and walk away!

I can only imagine what it must feel like to be an ICU doctor or nurse in this pandemic. They’ve been caring for the sick and watching people die for almost 2 years now. Having to inform loved ones of the death of hundreds of thousands of victims, these healthcare professionals hoped (and even prayed) for a vaccine that could help prevent the spread of this virus. And so now that we have a vaccine that has been determined safe and effective, the pandemic continues, due to the refusal of millions of people to vaccinate themselves? I would be tempted to go on strike myself!

A pandemic is a public health issue, not a political one. To politicize a disease that has killed hundreds of thousands of individuals who, if asked, would rather not have died, is beyond reckless… it is immoral. I have lost people I have known to COVID, including a man who was in his early fifties and in good health, but was unvaccinated. The steps necessary to prevent the spread of this disease are fairly simple: get vaccinated and mask up. This advice comes to us not from politicians but from the medical community and health experts. And yet, a significant number of people, including politicians, appear to believe they know better than health experts and / or appear to lack any empathy for others. The anti-VAX crowd is willfully ignorant and the anti-maskers are willfully selfish. While draping themselves in the American flag and asserting their freedoms, these people never appear to take into account the cost of their actions, not only to themselves, but to others, should they contract the virus.

The demographic data is quite clear here, and the fissures are not closing. As was the case in the 2016 election, according to Pew Research, differences in educational level and race provided the same stark dividing lines in the 2020 election. The higher your educational level and the more pigmentation in your skin, the less likely you were to have voted for Donald Trump. That we are currently experiencing a culture war in this country that pits science against anti-science, education against ignorance, tolerance against inclusion and pluralism against homogeneity would be difficult enough. But it comes at a time when good science, engineering and ideas are more important than ever if we are to address the problems we face. While other nations surpass the US in scientific advancements, we’re in the midst of a class struggle of sorts—our own cultural revolution, the likes of which set China back by 50 years!
