MoveOn Petitions - Shut down the immigrant children's prison

genessa replies on Dec 16, 2018:
@48thRonin your suggestions regarding me, personally, are rude and, pardon me for saying so, ignorant. you have no idea what i have done in my life or what my experience is, and your suggestion that i should bury my head in the sand to avoid being sad, rather than fighting for what will improve conditions all around, is despicable. that's all you have to say about this? good for you, and good for me too, because that's all i have to hear from you about this. when you get personal, i get blocking. g

genessa replies on Dec 16, 2018:
@48thRonin seriously you do not hear anything about people in our country (who, by the way, BENEFIT from the presence of immigrants)? what are you reading/listening to, that you do not hear anything about the people in our country? i hear about us all the time. as for caring for people less because they were born elsewhere... sorry, but that is not a distinction i make when children are locked up (IN OUR COUNTRY, and what does that do to the psyche of the people who were born in our own country? what does that make us?) or when children die needlessly (IN OUR COUNTRY, wherever they happen to have been born). and your premise that they should only come on vacation when they can't even afford SHOES.... you make me sad.. g

@48thRonin i suggest you explore current events and history more fully because it would take me way too long at this hour when i am tired and sleepy to explain it all in detail. i'm not trying to be insulting. i mean it. you have your doubts about their danger. your doubts have no effect on the actual danger, which is real. g

@Nardi no problem. i will add though that people without existing ailments are still endangered by second-hand smoke, and even setting that aside, it is extremely unpleasant for many to be in the presence of not only tobacco smoke but the saltpeter in the rolling paper (it prevents the paper from burning faster than the tobacco). so it's not as if someone needs an excuse not to tolerate smoking in their presence. if you only smoke in the presence of other smokers, or alone and away from where it can bother anyone, then it's your business -- unless you're in a relationship, in which case the other party may worry about your heart or lungs, or even just not want you to turn on your heel and leave when it's time to smoke (i've seen folks do that). g

where it's coming from is important but should not be the determining factor when it comes to our rights to speak. the determined factor should be where it's going, not where it's coming from. if someone wants to parrot someone else's thoughts, that's sad but should not be illegal. if someone wants to incite violence, that's a whole different ballgame. g

@PolyWolf hmm, i was about to concede that this is better than nothing but then i realized that it is still perfectly possible to steal a picture without that feature (i have a handy dandy screen capture program myself). the only thing you cannot do without the feature is search for it on google. so since blocking the feature doesn't prevent theft, why not open it up so at least it's easier to CATCH the thieves? g

you mean so scammers could not steal profile pictures? but then people who were not at level six or so could not check in order to be surer about scammers they were trying to report. it's a normal internet feature, which works just about everywhere. in fact this is so far the only place i've seen where it doesn't work! g

for one thing, often the person uses a stolen picture (one can usually tell but it would be better to be SURE and enabling this feature would make that possible) and a stolen profile (this one can check easily). but mostly it's a matter of common sense. the one i encountered most recently is purportedly female, by the way. g

are you saying we should not use the report feature? (you do not have to be profile police to notice a scammer when you see one, and if you see one, then we SHOULD report that person!) if not, then are you saying we should use the report feature without feeling fairly sure of what we're reporting? being able to search for the picture on google would provide evidence, which i am sure admin would appreciate. g

no that does not sound like his taking the fall. it sounds like his implicating the president too. he should get more time, since he's such a sleaze; i hope there is a clause somewhere saying that if he changes his mind and doesn't testify against the president when the time comes, he gets life. g

wrong. there is context. there is history. it does matter where it comes from because it is a dog whistle and it means more than it says. in this society, it is a GIVEN that it's okay to be white. just as "black lives matter" and "black pride" do not need to be countered by "white lives matter" ...
genessa replies on Dec 12, 2018:
@CarolinaGirl60 thanks but i think i left out something important, actually. that is, there wouldn't BE an "it's okay to be white" sign if the 4chan folks didn't feel pressured and offended by the horrible claim by nonwhites that it's okay NOT to be white, too. it's not a random statement like "ice cream tastes good." it's a reaction and it's the wrong reaction. the right reaction is "yes, black lives matter too. we're with you." there is a REASON we say "consider the source." "black lives matter" means "black lives matter TOO." "it's okay to be white" means "it's only okay to be white, not okay not to be white." how do we know it means this? consider the source! g

@Closeted oh, i got a lot of emotional mileage out of the crushes. did you know that syfy, back when it was scifi and used to show the occasional doctor who, cut one of the episodes (well, at least one, but one that i saw and noticed and was pissed off about) not for commercial time but for content? remember the second of the trilogy, the sound of drums? there is a moment when the doctor is explaining the thingie they were to wear to make them not quite invisible but unnoticeable, and he said that it's like when you fancy someone and they don't even know you're there. jack notices martha's longing look and says "you too?" they cut his line! homophobic creeps! g

@SoullessHeathen a trans person dressing as a man is not the same as a completely straight woman dressing like a man. the women do not think they're men. what does how they dress have to do with which facilities they should use? they're women and they use women's facilities. their clothing is irrelevant. the trans man doesn't doesn't THINK he's a man either; he's a man. if his body hasn't caught up with who he is yet, he's still a man nonetheless. it isn't about his clothing either. g

@Sgt_Spanky i have a friend who is transgendered. she didn't choose to be transgendered. in fact she didn't choose anything. her parents did. she was born with genitalia from BOTH sexas. her parents decided she was a boy and had surgeons make that happen shortly after my friend's birth. much later, she found out that she'd had a twin. i don't know what happened to the twin but it didn't get born and it was likely subsumed by her, my friend. there is a word for that, as it does sometimes happen, but i forget the word and am too tired to look it up; my eyes are hurting me. at any rate, it is possible her twin was female and was subsumed, and that is why my friend was born hermaphroditic. her parents made a choice for her but the choice doesn't match who she feels she is. she spent her whole adult life as a man, married, had kids, and finally could no longer lie to herself; inside, she knew she was female. we have lost touch; i don't know if she ever got her surgery. i hope she got whatever she needed to feel like herself. but how she was born... she was born BOTH. g
