It's 40+ years since I was part of the chicken poo fundraiser. I thought nothing of it but was fascinated with the story told by the local butcher whose wife wouldn't let him in the house until he had stripped naked, put everything, shoes included, in the bin and shower himself with the garden hose. - wus Australians.

@FrayedBear My sister shovelled chook poo for fundraising many years ago, can’t remember what for. So it was a kiwi thing too.
