Most of the most ardent pro vaxxers I know would be extremely reluctant to take a vaccine that had only gone through this level of testing. I mean what could go wrong with an untested vaccine for a disease that can cause: • permanent lung damage, • permanent heart damage, • permanent brain damage, • who knows what else? I had a friend who got a dose of a rushed, not fully tested vaccine. Here's the obituary I wrote for him:

If we don't put the fear of the people back into government by getting rid of Donald Trump in November, we can kiss liberty in the U.S. goodbye. That is not hyperbole. It is a statement of fact. With all due respect, Pelosi should walk in with a complete list of everything the Democrats should be asking for, including, but not limited to: • $2,000 per month per person through at least January. • At least $600 per week unemployment through at least January. • National moratorium on evictions through at least January. • Medicare for All. • Fully funded child care for working parent(s). • Fully funded public education through grad school. • Fully fund PBS, NPR, and public libraries. • Forgiveness of all student loans. • Fully fund the Postal Service through at least June. • No transfer of military equipment to local law enforcement. When Trump and McConnell tell her she's crazy, she should point out: 1) In the CARES Act the fat cats and corporations got trillions; the average person got $1,200. 2) We have a consumer economy. If these demand aren't met the 33% drop in the second quarter will look great by comparison of what is going to happen. 3) The Republicans had seven weeks to accept the offer that the Democrats had passed. They cannot claim that they have been dealing in good faith. Pelosi sold us out last time. I hope she does better this time.

mcgeo52 comments on Aug 5, 2020:
I just emailed the following correction to Truthout: In his op-ed, "Is Trump Trying to Steal the Election to Escape Indictment?”, William Rivers Pitt states, "The safest place for Donald Trump is in the White House, as sitting presidents cannot be indicted by state-level officials.“ If anyone bothers to read the article found at that link [the link is not picked up here, I would refer you to the original article], they will realize it is not a settled matter of law that a sitting President cannot be indicted by state-level officials. Indeed, the author of that article cites as one of his authorities on the subject the Office of Legal Counsel opinion. Not only is the OLC opinion exactly that, an **opinion** with no binding legal authority, but even if it had the power of law it would only apply at the federal level. Indeed, there is historical precedent for a President to be arrested and cited for a crime. During his presidency, Ulysses S. Grant was pulled over and cited for driving his horse-drawn coach dangerously fast. Washington D.C. Metropolitan PD officer, William West, fined the president and impounded the vehicle. That precedent alone destroys the OLC opinion since the Officer West was a federal officer, not a state officer. The President is not above the law. Seven Supreme Court Justices recently said so. We need to stop spreading any lies saying otherwise. Sincerely, — Geo. McCalip

The federal officers are in Portland under the authority of the Secretary of Homeland Defense per 40 USC 1315. The interesting twist is this: Chad Wolf is the Acting Secretary of Homeland Defense and has not been approved by the Senate. In most cases, that would be no big deal because an Acting Secretary has all of the authority of a confirmed Secretary. This case is different because Mr. Wolf assumed office on November 13, 2019 and, per 5 USC 3346 he may serve as an Acting Secretary no more than 210 days. That means that since June 10, 2020 he has no legal authority. Actually, it’s even worse than that. The clock starts ticking on the 210 day limit “beginning on the date the vacancy occurs.” For the record, the vacancy occurred when the last Senate-appointed DHS Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, stepped down on April 10, 2019. By the time Chad Wolf took office as the Acting Secretary he had no legal right to do so per 5 USC 3346. In other words, he has never had the legal authority to do anything as Acting Secretary. Everything happening now in Portland, and soon in other cities, is an unauthorized criminal use of force.
