Amisja comments on May 22, 2018:
As a rule Americans give more to Charity than Brits. I understand why but for fear of insulting either Nation, I will refrain from saying. I give where I can to things that are important to me. I had a long conversation with a rough sleeper. I gave him a couple of quid 'for a room miss, god bless ya miss', only to see him the day after still begging for a room. So I sat with him n said, 'Come on lad you know this is all going on ale...just be honest'. He agreed but told me folk look down him for being a drinker, how he'd been a painter and decorator, low mood and alcoholism had got in the way. This is the thing for me. Give if you want, as a socialist I am basically opposed to charity, but if you do give stop expecting people to be virtuous in their need. Street ppl f**ked up their life, thats why they are there. Charities exist to help the poor a bit and help the rich a lot. Alternatively fight for a just and equal society that makes charity obsolete.
If having no God means having no sense of humor I'm out.

Choosing partner is directly or indirectly related with racism.
Amisja comments on May 22, 2018:
How does this happen? This choosing malarky? I just was sorta single then sorta not. I was married to a guy for 22 years who was a different nationality and a different ethnicity (although still caucasian). I thought being with someone was more about chemistry and biology and less about cynical thought. If that was the case, I'd have at least chosen a rich one...I entirely do not care about their ethnicity.
I've noticed the public discourse now uses feminist instead of women's lib.
Amisja comments on May 21, 2018:
Feminism for me is simply about equality. It does not mean I hate men. I am actually rather partial to men in general. Neither do I want to be a man or traditionally masculine. I enjoy feminity, I do a lot of what my sister calls 'girlie superpowers' like cooking and crafting, baking, making beer l, wine jam etc. The thing is those skills are as equally valid as building houses and stripping engines. In addition I believe in sexual freedom. I believe I have the right to be a sexual person without being expected to look or act in a certain way, I believe I should feel safe around any male and feel safe to walk around at night. I should if I chose be free to get tipsy on a night out or wear short skirts and expect to get home safely. I believe that the value to my contribution in my places of work should be entirely equal to a man's. I believe that marital status, pregnancy or age should not be reasons why a person is not employed. I believe if I wanted I should have the opportunity to work in any male dominated profession and not feel disadvantaged. Until these are entirely met...entirely we still need to fight the good fight.
My coworker, who I sit right next to, is a nice enough person when talking to just me.
Amisja comments on May 21, 2018:
I have a colleague who does the same, plus she always wants to car share. She is a bully but has this way that makes her look so sweet and darling. 'Oh Jayne is that top another charity shop find, I could never buy anything from charity shops'. Or she tells me again about all the designer stuff her partner buys her or all about his hugely wealthy brother. She even said, 'oh Jayne your house is so sweet but my Stephen wouldn't want to live in such a rough area' (she literally lives 2 mins from me!). It used to really get to me. Then I realised she is desperately insecure, first in her family to get a degree, from a poor working class family, she feels an imposter...she has said enough. I decided to pity her. I don't need her to validate me in order to have any sense of self esteem or self worth. I know my value. I hope that helps?

Amisja comments on May 10, 2018:
I have heard this argument from several feminist sisters. I am a feminist and here is my take. Being a woman is not about appearance alone. I know I am female, I have all the correct girlie bits and more or less the right place yeah, but I also feel it. My world view is that of a woman, I still respond physically to babies crying, I have all the commensurate hormonal responses to being a woman, I did all the womanly things like having babies etc. But gender isn't as simple as that. Who is to say, given different parents in a different world I might have behaved very differently. Gender is fluid and it is also a biological thing, feeling 'wrong' is not an affectation, it is correctable. Once we allow people the opportunity to fully explore gender then things may not feel so confined.

Is anyone else here watching the meltdown of free speech in the UK?
Amisja comments on May 9, 2018:
Look we all want everyone to have free speech and in the West that is broadly accepted. We have a right to free speech under the Human Rights Act 1995. However there is a proviso that you act in a way that will not cause harm or endanger or distress others. Calling a group of young Asian men 'paedos' is not free speech...that is out and out racism, calling a transperson...actually I can't even say it...is completely unacceptable. We have commedians in UK who really cut close to the bone (Frankie Boyle) but are clever and funny and never offensive for offensiveness sake. Now if a group of mindless stella glugging yobs want to take to the streets then I support that in principle. If they are doing so because one of their number has been caught making racist comments that directly affects the safety and security of other Brits then thats where they lose my support.
Is anyone else here watching the meltdown of free speech in the UK?
Amisja comments on May 9, 2018:
