Amisja comments on Oct 11, 2018:
Oh please don't. I remember going to one on AZ and everyone dressing in...well somewhere between Victorian and Medival European costumes and someone literally telling me to stop talking in a stupid English accent! Well I am English and this is how I talk. Very few people ever dressed like that, virtually no one ate turkey legs or had forks. It drove me absolutely sqirmingly batty!
Is anyone else grateful that the fashion for the word 'Bright' seems to be fading.

Friendly reminder: Make sure you get your flu shot this year.
Amisja comments on Oct 11, 2018:
I am a flu shot hero and I agree. I once had flu and I felt like I was going to die. The common cold is not flu. If you have flu you are extremely unwell and bed bound. Get a shot. If you are in UK most people get them free of charge. Please do this as flu puts a lot of pressure on health services world wide.

It isn't that a woman's role is to be a mother as a living creature thats all we have to do. Like all other animals, plants, etc etc. If you don't (either by choice or biological reason) then you don't. Its not a big deal either way. I have three children. I love being a Mum, its been the best bit of my life. I am looking forward to being a granny one day too. But it isn't my only skill, I do other stuff too. Each of us was a complete person before we became a parent and those of us who chose not to be are still complete people. Its fine, we need childless people just as much as we need Mums n Dads.

I used to do puree'd veg into ice tray then pop them out as I needed them. You can puree meat with gravy too but I tried to avoid salt and too much red meat. My daughter is lactose intolerant so we didn't have much in the way of dairy. She's 27 now and still eats veggies like theres no tomorrow. My eldest boy didn't eat much at all until we came back to UK. In the proceeding 20 years, he hasn't stopped! My youngest also ate lots of veggies, rice, pasta and a little pureed meat.

Relationships between teachers and students.
Amisja comments on Oct 10, 2018:
I am a university lecturer and I would be dismissed if I began a relationship with a student. Some of my students are my age or even older, they know their own mind. However, as Stephanie states the power dyanamic makes this very murky. My colleague (and sort of boss) married his ex-student. These are adult relationships and consequently its no one else's business, however this is wildly open to abuse...oh and most students pong ;)

What factors in life cause a person to be left or right in politics.
Amisja comments on Oct 8, 2018:
I read an article once which likened it to Cain and Abel in the OT. Cain being the farmer and Abel being the sheppard. Sheppards are more likely to share with the tribe whereas farmers are more likely to horde for themselves. Now C&A are not real but this article stated that these notions of responsibility to each other and the clan is more noticable in the sheppard than the farmer. I think it is probably more to do with genetics, background and physicality than anything

Out of 1000 Rapes - Sad Statistics
Amisja comments on Oct 4, 2018:
I post here as a woman from the UK and surprisingly the statistics are very similar. I am grateful you made this group Sassygirl and grateful to all the brave women who posted. I was really disturbed by the Dr. Ford thing. It shocked me a lot. I couldn't understand why. My first dissertation was on rape and I have read 100's of court transcripts. Why was this one so troubling? Then I realised...it was me. I was the shy geeky ginger girl trying to fit in. Trying a beer that I didn't really like. I was pushed in a room and I heard a guy outside shout to another one...'hoy wait your turn'. It was awful and the guys were all handsome and sucessful and I was told I was lucky they paid attention to the shy chubby ginger. I believe her because no one on earth would ever want to relive that for fun. I remember laughing too. I wish I could hug her, thousands of miles away we probably shared the identical experience virtually at the same time. I haven't ever told this before
Do you oppose the wearing of Burqa's Why?
Amisja comments on Oct 4, 2018:
Burqas are unusual in Western countries, However you may see a woman wearing a Niqab or a hijab. I live in a town which is about 15% Muslim, some ladies wear hijabs a few wear niqabs and loads are unveiled. Yesterday I was driving down a street and I saw a lady in the most beautiful outfit and hijab, she looked amazing (I sew a lot of clothes for Muslim ladies). Lower down the street was a British girl (may be 15) in what you guys call 'Daisy Duke' shorts and a crop top...on a school day! To me that is far more offensive. That and some of the other low lifes round me who think going to the supermarket in a onesie at 3pm is acceptable! The other strange notion is the idea that women are 'forced' into the veil. This is not true. In fact research suggests that British born muslim men particularly do not care. In fact in my experience they tend to be the most vocal in their objection. The veil is not religious really, in fact some sects of Judaism also wear veils and headscarves were ubiquitous in my part of England amongst mill girls. It is cultural and it came from a cultural norm that maintained that high status women and women in hareems be veiled as only one man could look at them. The tradition continues as young women wanted to follow the high status women. The bible and the Q'oran are rather ambiguous on this, both suggesting modesty but neither really openly discussing a veil. To me personally its cool. It did freak me out when a pair of eyes greeted me from a vision in black and said, "hiya Jayne". When I looked confused she lifted up her veil and said "its me Robina"!! We both had a good life. Its only a veil live and let live.

Amisja comments on Oct 4, 2018:
His speech was offensive and incorrect. Just the day after a Canadian woman was granted the Nobel prize for science. https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2018/10/02/nobel-prize-physics-awarded-tools-made-light-first-woman-years-honored/ What you fail to understand is that for women of my generation and older, we were actively discouraged from entering sciences. It was consider 'too taxing' for women's brains. I remember distinctly being advised against becoming an archelogist and taking up nursing as a more suitable profession for girls. Things are changing and so they should. In cases were an uneven hand is given to one gender over another or one race over an other, it is only proper that steps are taken to redress this balance. Women have ALWAYS been involved in science, from Ada Lovelace to Rosalind Franklin and beyond. Its just they were often excluded from recognition. I have 2 BScs and an MSc and my doctorate will be science based (ask for details if interested). It is still unusual though. Rather than bashing the universities stand on this issue, why not encourage the young women you know to consider careers in science??

If that man had said, " I can not believe that boy was me, but it was. I am deeply ashamed of my adolescent self and I bed forgiveness from Dr. Ford and all the other women in my life. I intend to spend the rest of my life working to right this wrong and making it my most sincere endeavour to work for my fellow Americans". Then I bet you guys would have opened your heart to him and allowed him to have another chance. But he didn't he squirmed and threw a tantrum..sounded mean hearted and cold.
