I ordered a pelican curry the other night.

It tasted ok, but the bill was enormous.

Q. How do you catch a pelican?
A. Take a small dog like a chihuahua for a walk on a long lead where stupid people constantly feed the "pretty big birds" bread.
When the pelican swoops up the dog in its bill start reeling in the long lead.

Is that true? If so, has redefined pelican behaviour for me.

@Zealandia I've never tried it but urban myth over here says they predate on small pets belonging to fat old women feeding them bread!

@FrayedBear Lol, talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Red kites were reintroduced to Berkshire when I was living in the uk. They’re big birds that hunt for small animals. You’d see them floating up in the sky, with wings spread out.Apparently their main source of food is now roadkill.

I wouldn’t leave a handbag type dog, baby or small pets such as Guinea pigs alone in the back garden with a red kite overhead!

There’s documented cases of foxes sneaking into houses in urban areas (London in particular) and attacking children.

@Zealandia I remember seeing foxes on the railway from Harrow into the city 50 years ago. If they weren't afraid of great big trains why would suburbia, mothers & babies worry them?

@FrayedBear Agreed. The foxes have become a lot more bold now. Have seen them making their way along the streets in London.

@Zealandia Is there a fox problem in NZ?

@FrayedBear Fortunately, the colonialists didn’t bring over foxes. I can’t imagine what life would be like here if they’d have been introduced.

Stoats and ferrets are a big problem here.

I’ve just found out that in 2002 it became illegal to own a ferret as a pet here.

I understand that foxes are an issue in Oz.

You could pay it with fish.....one at a time.

I could try that…just for the halibut.

@Zealandia And a whale of a time doing it!
