The lyrics for "Have a Nice Day" are based on a cab fare Stereophonics took in San Francisco Bay when they were touring in the United States. When the band got in the back of the cab the driver said to them, "I hate this place, it's full of tourists and processed fish". He explained to the trio that he was a poet who believes everyone in the world are alike; the only difference is the accents. At the end of the journey the driver ended the conversation with: "That'll be seven bucks, have a nice day".

The song and album title is a reference to the experience of being towed along in a boat by a harpooned whale. In the aftermath of the wreck, Coffin was shot and eaten by his shipmates. The story of the Essex was recorded by its First Mate Owen Chase, one of eight survivors, in his 1821 Narrative of the Most Extraordinary and Distressing Shipwreck of the Whale-Ship Essex.

It is a three-part narrative, centred upon the seasons summer, winter and spring. According to Allmusic, it draws "its inspiration from the singer's often-tragic childhood. The lyrics portray a man who has overcome tragedies in his life yet still feels haunted by their memory." BBC.co.uk also says that the song about a "melancholy middle-aged man reminiscing about his youth... is in many ways uncomfortably close to home, dealing as it does with episodes uncannily similar to events in his own life." Steinman says that it was "the hardest song to write and get across."

The versatile hit went on to be covered by thousands of artists, in every genre from disco to reggae. Unfortunately, Gershwin wouldn’t live to see his song become the world-famous one it is today.

What is your impression of Robert Reich?
FearlessFly comments on Feb 11, 2020:
It would be fair to say that my posts (not all) tend to be about technology. Your posts tend to be (not all) about economics (not a complaint, an observation) Reich (a 'political economist' ) seems to me to be a straight-shooter, albeit fairly left-leaning (MSM, Berkley) which fairly-well matches my "world-view" :)
Why are the Religious Entitled to Special Treatment?
FearlessFly comments on Feb 11, 2020:
IIUC, originally the tax exemptions (rightly/wrongly) were to ensure that the government would not interfere with religion(s). https://churchesandtaxes.procon.org/history-of-churches-and-taxes/
Looking for agnostic/atheist meetup groups, anyone have any suggestions?
FearlessFly comments on Feb 11, 2020:
After login, choose "Explore" menu (just right of center at the top) Then choose "Groups" ("Calender" is probably the default) Type-in 'atheist' in the search window -- see what might come up.

The song was written by Ford and Osbourne as the result of an accident in the studio during which they both drank heavily and inadvertently wrote the lyrics to the song together.

His final US recordings were four tracks for Rockin' Ronny Weiser's Rolling Rock label, a few weeks before his death. These were released on a compilation album of tribute songs, including "Say Mama", by his daughter, Melody Jean Vincent, accompanied by Johnny Meeks (of Blue Caps and Merle Haggard's The Strangers) on guitar.

FearlessFly comments on Feb 11, 2020:
Written by band members Paul Heaton. Considered typical of the band's gently subversive, self-reflexive signature style, it is sung from the point of view of a cynical songwriter who romances women solely to get material for love songs.

[youtu.be] The Clash. - Should I Stay or Should I Go
FearlessFly comments on Feb 10, 2020:
It was written in 1981 and featured Mick Jones on lead vocals. Many rumours have arisen about the song's content, such as Jones' impending dismissal from the Clash or the tempestuous personal relationship between Jones and American singer Ellen Foley. "Should I Stay or Should I Go" was thought to be written by Jones about Foley, who sang the backing vocals on Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell
