IMO, the words 'proof' and 'truth' are problematic -- to be used very sparingly. IIUC, philosophers have be 'discussing' 'truth' since at least the ancients. Apart from math, science doesn't prove anything, there is always error-bars/doubt/new-ideas. I encounter (almost daily) too many posts linked from FB and posts linked from less-than highly factual source(s) (regardless of l/r bias). Instead of "require evidence", how about "opinions shared, but consensus greatly increased with credible evidence and verifiable sourc(s)".
