Is this a British thing?

They did not have drugstores40 years ago, they were chemists.

@FrayedBear not being a world traveler I did not know this, we had them here in the U.S. But I still don't get the lettuce thing.

@silverotter11 I don't either. I'm wondering if there is a word missing. But I'm not letting it disturb my lunch - yes "good afternoon from your future!" It should reach you in about 14 hours.?

@FrayedBear I getting ready to call it a night and get horizontal.

@silverotter11 My favourite exercise position. I haven't had the occasion to do the horizontal marathon for a very long time so I suppose these days I would have to restart on the 10 metre training runs! And most of that in my mind. ???????

@silverotter11 Its one of those jokes you have to say out loud. "fresh lettuce" ..."french letters"

@273kelvin Sorry @273kelvin but with or without scouse accent I can't sound it. Are you perhaps speaking Bootle or Prescott? Certainly with that dreadful dose of phlegm in the throat that I remember from Bootle fresh may sound as if it has an n in it. ... You have to remember that I've been bastardised by Ozzie and @Silverotter11 whatever misspelt corruption of English developed on the other side of the Atlantic flourishes in her county and borough. ?

@FrayedBear I think it works in Ozzie or Yank but thats me

@FrayedBear TOO funny. Yes, I admit English, spelling and typing are not my strong points. I grew up in New Jersey and there are certain idiosyncrasies (you KNOW i googled spelling on that one, but guess what? I got it right!!!) that will never leave me.
That said I do NOT understand 'Southie' - it's a Boston dialect that is REALLY out there.

@273kelvin
Perhaps I should have that whisky miniature that I have been hoarding all week?

@FrayedBear There is an announcer for the Seattle Mariners baseball team that is Australia, he played ball, can't remember his name but I love listening him speak. The accent is lovely.

@silverotter11 I never understood Geordie from NE England. It is a dialect that is part English, part Scottish and part Norwegian.

@silverotter11 Well done with the spelling. These days I rely on the computrr program spell check.

@FrayedBear Spell check has never worked for me on this site. I have an old computer and am still using Windows XP. I KNOW, just let it be. Cash flow issues. 🙂

@silverotter11 Depends. There have been quite a few ranging from Mel Gibson to Paul Hogan with the likes of Joan Sutherland and Peter Allan in between.

@273kelvin french letters are condoms?

@silverotter11 try loading the free open source program Libre. The spell check is good. You just copy and paste into Agnostics.
Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Fun Project - Fantastic People [libreoffice.org]

@silverotter11 I think that you add the libraries through the Tools menu and press F7 to access spell function.

@FrayedBear You must have me confused with someone who takes risks doing something she knows NOTHING about.
While I am excellent at pushing certain buttons 😉 I tend to leave downloading shit and tweeking things on a computer to those with more knowledge. I have done things within the Windows framework - there are prompts. That said, I will look into it. TY for the info.

@silverotter11 Yes

@silverotter11 With windows you just download the .Exe file onto your computer and open it. It then walks you through setting up on your computer the same as a car salesman teaching you about the features of a new car and what does what and where it is. Customise what directories etc. you are using and other niceties like colour, font size etc. Try and simplify your file structure so that directory /myprograms has subdirectories such as /office/Libre. Be aware the download is over 100 megabytes if you are on limited resource.

me either didn't make sense
