This is me, Castro Valley, summer 2017. I'm clean shaven now, guess I should update pic at some point.

I have a few concerns and reservations about the upcoming meeting between Trump and Kim.
Druvius comments on Mar 9, 2018:
Lol. Who knows. The US has already announced that North Korea must make concessions before talks will occur, so likely they wont. And Kim won't need an interpreter, he speaks English. :)
Ever notice the ammosexuals(luv the term) always talk about all the other things that kill people ...
Druvius comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Yes, the anti-gun control people don't have any good arguments, so they spew an endless stream of false arguments and deflection to avoid actual debate.

Why are religious people against gay marriages?
Druvius comments on Mar 8, 2018:
Some religions are very much about defined gender roles, and gay marriage flies against that.

Have you considered another job? You shouldn't have to deal with stuff like this. You did nothing wrong.
Do you find giving advice to someone who disregards it, is a waste of time.
Druvius comments on Mar 6, 2018:
"Never give advice. The wise don't need it, fools won't heed it."
Are most people logical? Is being "logical" an illusion?
Druvius comments on Mar 6, 2018:
Most people couldn't construct a logical argument to save their lives in my experience. The human brain isn't wired for logic, it's a pattern recognition device.
Would you accept a job or position within a company that was built around religious beliefs?
Druvius comments on Mar 6, 2018:
It would depend on the job, the religion, and their beliefs. Maybe.
How do I stop my negative self-talk?
Druvius comments on Mar 6, 2018:

When will Donald Trump leave or be forced from office?
Druvius comments on Mar 5, 2018:
When his second term ends in 2024? Unless the economy completely tanks before 2020, he will likely get reelected, since the Dems seem to have learned nothing from their loss in 2016. Anything is possible of course, but that seems the most likely the way things are going now.
If the Second Amendment Was Meant for Genocide, Is It Sacred?
Druvius comments on Mar 5, 2018:
Kind of irrelevant at this point, it's an individual right now. Doesn't mean measures can't be taken to reduce gun violence.

Flat earthers, truthers, birthers, holocaust deniers, moon landing deniers?
Druvius comments on Mar 3, 2018:
The human brain is wired for pattern recognition, not logic. This is a feature, not a bug. The caveman who thought every rustle in the grass was a saber tooth had better survival odds than the ones who said "It's just the wind, don't be stupid!" Granted in the modern era politicians and hucksters are getting better at exploiting those who exhibit this tendency, but they are just functioning the way evolution made them. And yes, a number of my friends and relatives are prone to conspiracy ideation, so what?

Druvius comments on Mar 3, 2018:
Yeah. I was making good progress too, but then the choir jumped me. They were old though, I fought free, grabbed a bottle of sacramental wine, broke it, and slashing wildly managed to make my way through the still stunned congregation to the exit. I don't think I seriously hurt anyone, but I wasn't about to take any chances. Fortunately I was close to the state line and got across before the police caught up. Next time I will be more careful, but yeah, I'll stay out of Kentucky just to be safe.

What do you think about this whole Nibiru/Planet X thing?
Druvius comments on Mar 2, 2018:
Well, the whole "Planet Nibiru is going to fly into the inner Solar System and wreak havoc" is nonsense. There is some thought that the orbits of some Kuiper Belt objects can best be explained by an as yet undiscovered Neptune sized planet that orbits about 20 times further from the Sun than Neptune. Still, until astronomers spot it, it's just speculation.
Yes do explain how this is going to work.
Druvius comments on Mar 1, 2018:
Gotta love how opponents of gun control spew every false argument known to mankind. When you have no good arguments in your quiver, doesn't really leave them much choice. Tiresome really.

Yes, 5-7 floors is the danger zone for cats, above and below their odds of surviving without injury are good. All three of mine were "flight qualified." When we lived in a 3rd story apartment I always left a window open so they could escape if there was a fire, it was nice knowing they had a fire escape.
Is anyone else losing hair over this nutjob in the W.H from stress?
Druvius comments on Feb 28, 2018:
No, not really. He is a symptom not a cause. The foxes took over the henhouse under Reagan and it's been downhill since. Any chance of democratic change is essentially gone at this point, we are an imperial oligarchy. It's no more sustainable than the Soviet empire was, so at some point it will collapse. What will happen then is anyone's guess. Until then, enjoy the ride. :)

Enceladus Methane - Biological?... [space.com]
Druvius comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I suspect we will find microbial life all over the Solar System once we get out there (or have sample return missions) and can look for it. Life is simply too ubiquitous on Earth, and we know it can survive inside rocks for millions of years. The "cloud" of life bearing rocks blasted free from Earth by bollide impacts is about 12 LY wide now. It would be surprising to me if the various oceans in the Solar System turned out to be sterile.
INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?
Druvius comments on Feb 27, 2018:
If you have a safe yard, IE fenced and dog proofed, the cats spend their first few months at least indoors, they are only allowed out when you are home, and NEVER left out overnight, it's OK. Oh, also must be a yard where they will never cross a road. Never had a problem using these guidelines.
Can atheists believe in ghosts?
Druvius comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Why not? Athiests can and do believe in anything humans believe in except Gods.

Druvius comments on Feb 27, 2018:
The evidence from the Neanderthal/human speciation event, 4000 to 25000 generations. So maybe 100,000 to 500,000 years. At the lower end if the populations are isolated, higher end if cross breeding is occuring. All pretty speculative too, but a long time basically because human generations are so long.

Water on the Moon, (& a good Moon video)... [space.com]
Druvius comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Old story. A fascinating codicil to this is in the 70s when Moon rocks and soil were brought back from the Moon, NASA did in fact detect miniscule amounts of water in them. Well, this was clearly "impossible," so it was written off as contamination during or after transport from the Moon. Even scientists can be blinded by their preconceptions. :)
For the handful of christians floating around here
Druvius comments on Feb 26, 2018:
I think if Jesus existed, he was someone who tried to do the right thing. There have been many others throughout history, gives me hope for the species. I readopted my faith because hate filled bigoted evangelicals were giving it a bad name. Most of my family and friends are Christian of one sort or another, and they're all good people horrified by America's Christian right. The Bible is Bronze Age morality literature mostly made up, and of very limited use as a guide to modern life. We have made a lot of progress since it was written. And no, heaven and hell is made up crap, our job here is to be there for our friends and family and try to make the world a better place.
What do you do when missionaries or Jehovah's Witnesses come to your door?

Which religion in your opinion is the worst? Islam or Christianity?
Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
The abrahamaaic religions are all just sects of the same religion, and they are all equally drenched in blood and misogyny.
Have you ever known anyone to fall victim to a scam? Or, are most people wary enough to avoid them?
Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I had a friend who fell for the pidgeon drop scam. In my early days on AOL I gave my password to someone claiming to work for company, though realized that I had fallen for a ploy and changed my password befote logging off, phew. A phishing scam fooled me for a few minutes once, but since I didn't have an ATM card at the time, I was just puzzled as to why they wanted info I couldn't provide.
Child Marriage in America—the Amendment of Abuse and Antiquity - TheHumanist.com

Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Currently the evidence is pretty solid that civilization as we define the term (cities, social Classes, specialized buildings like temples, palaces) arose pretty much simultaneously in both Mesopotamia and Egypt. There's no evidence nor reason to believe they had any help from either an earlier civilization (Atlantis) or alien visitors. That being said, how and why civilisations arose in the first place is still quite the mystery. And the discovery of gobekli tepe has futher muddied the waters, we apparently were building "temples" before cities or agriculture. Humans are clever, have been for hundreds of thousands of years.
Star Wars or Star Trek?
Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Different genres so not really a good comparison. Star Wars is space opera, Star Trek is science fiction. Star Wars is among the best of the best when it comes to space opera, but it's not really a genre that I enjoy.
[truth-out.org] any thoughts on this perspective on the second amendment?
Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I fail to see its relevance. DC vs Heller 2008 clarified that the 2nd amendment was an individual right to bear arms. Baring a dramatic restructuring of the SCOTUS or a consitutional amendment, that's the law of the land. It DOESN'T guarantee a right to any weapon one wants, it just means a blanket prohibition against civilians owning guns is unconstitutional. So arguing over what the original meaning of the second amendment was is a distraction from the issue at hand, real gun control that reins in the wild west state of gun control in the US.
Since I’ve been away from religion for at least 20 years, I feel like the Evangelicals broadsided ...
Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Yerp. As a young man we called them holy rollers and they pretty much kept to themselves. Then the GOP made an unholy alliance with them and created a huge evangelical political movement. And in fact a large segment of them, the Seven Mountain Dominionists, are actively and openly trying to turn America into a theocracy based on their hate filled interpretation of the Old Testament. I don't have a problem with religion per se, but when they want to make their religion the law of the land, major problem.
I can't figure out how that is going to work.

Druvius comments on Feb 25, 2018:
Wasps are a highly evolved animal, and a very beneficial one as well. And generally if one leaves them alone they will live and let live. Generally, we had a nest on rural property one year that anyone who went near would be attacked. I'm sure colonies have different personalities just like people.

When someone invites you to a wedding, how do you feel?
Druvius comments on Feb 24, 2018:
Depends on the wedding. Went to one wedding that was painful to watch. Unrehearsed, and never have small children as part of the actual ceremony. Another that turned out to be a blatant and insulting farce to harvest money from co-workers. And to my brother's, where everything about it was epic, especially the feast and party afterwards. I'll play the next one by ear.

With all the chatter regarding the 2nd amendment, I can see a broad range of interpretations ...
Druvius comments on Feb 23, 2018:
The only people arguing about the interpretation of the second amendment are either ignorant or disengenuous. Heller vs DC 2008, the 2nd amendment is an individual right. So there's no need to change the constitution, and the ammosexuals needn't worry about the government seizing everyone's guns. That being said we can certainly move forward with reasonable gun control, and things like ar-15s can be banned.

Yes ... I think so. Interestingly enough, at least to science nerds like myself, a psych professor distributed questionaires to all his first year students that day asking them to describe exactly where they were, who they were with, what they were doing etc when they heard the news. Then a couple years later gave them all the exact same questionaire. And it turns out so called "flashbulb" memories are no more accurate than other memories. A little surprising, but memory is memory, so not really.
The Ukraine Conflict... [youtube.com]
Druvius comments on Feb 6, 2018:
I stopped when it said "Russia sent its military into Crimea." Neglected to mention that the US supported neo Nazi coup that overthrew the elected government of Ukraine made its first order of business passing laws making ethnic Russians second class citizens. A minor detail they left out. Something like 95% of the population of Crimea is ethnic Russian. (Crimea was only given to Ukraine in the 1950s.) The government and people of Crimea voted overwhelmingly to ask to be a part of Russia again. Self determination and democracy in action. To claim that Russia seized Crimea is a gross distortion of what happened. This is simply a western propaganda video.
