I would like to know how a bunch of brainless violent goons were able to invade Congress.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 7, 2021:
Because they obviously had inside help and it probably reached all the way up to Trump.
Buckle up DC, it's not over.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 7, 2021:
Can't say they weren't warned....same as they were before Wed.. It's simple, all they need to do is pretend the Trumpers are BLM. That should take care of it...

TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 7, 2021:
That is over simplified. Many believers are Christian not because they believe in and fear hell. They choose religion because it makes them feel morally superior to non-believers and also gives them social benefits like fitting into the mainstream and providing community for them and religious education for their kids.

We don't have to
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 7, 2021:
I never have bothered with making excuses for avoiding people I don't like and I won't start now. Otherwise, I agree completely with the message. I avoid the ignorant and insane, as engaging only leads to unnecessary grief. BTW, it's also telling that Bernie's rallies were always much bigger than Biden's during the primaries. That's because Bernie supporters, like me, don't care about who knows our political views, we're proud socialists. We are willing to take the heat and possible vandalism because our candidate stood for something worth fighting for, unlike Biden.

My version is All I See Is Stupidity....... So when I heard that dead woman shot today was a protester shot by a DC cop, my response is, " Sometimes stupidity has justifiably fatal consequences. Maybe she shouldn't have been there". Sane people don't hang with violent, mentally ill people.
BLM and Antifa protesters were beaten viciously by police.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:
And I'm supposed to feel surprised? If the rioters today were black or brown they would have immediately been met with gunfire, even if the cops were outnumbered and dozens would have been killed. Aryan fascists of a feather stick together..
This is comical:
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:

What a day for the US. Never thought we’d have an attempted coup to kick off 2021.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:
That's exactly what it was, an attempted coup or insurrection by a right wing group just like in a Latin American banana republic or a Middle Eastern dictatorship. Trump, Hawley, and Cruz are traitors who incited this and all should have to resign immediately if the Repub Party had any honor or principles and the Dems had any balls to demand it.
Now what?
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:
Too bad our cops and military have a double standard for protest groups. If this had been any kind of BLM or other left wing protest, they would have been cracking heads and gassing the crowd long before any of the protesters could even think about entering the building. If most of the protesters were black or brown, the cops would have immediately begun firing live bullets and tried to mow them down. I hope the Dems have the balls to condemn and push for censure of all the Repubs that backed Trump in opposing the election results. They own and are as responsible for this as Trump. Americans can now see clearly which part is the home of fascists and which one is truly more patriotic. Something I have known for decades. The Dems may be corrupt, but they at least believe in upholding democratic elections. The Repubs are truly anti-democratic. Maybe this will finally settle any debate about who is the real threat to our security and safety, right wing militia groups or antifa groups. I know that sane people already know the answer to that, but as far as the average American sheeple, I'm not very optimistic.

More good ones
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:
I have no problem with lifetime appointments of judges, as long as both parties are allowed to appoint them when they control the White House. What is wrong is when only one party's presidents are allowed to appoint judges and when that party isn't in the White House, then they are allowed to obstruct the other party's appointments for that president's whole term.
It took me a long time to realize it. I hope people pay attention.
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 6, 2021:
I wouldn't hold my breath. Most people are either too stupid or too cowardly to allow themselves to realize that both parties are against them.
It is past time for a change
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 5, 2021:
That's because Trumpism is a cult and Biden's supporters are run of the mill mainstream Dems who are not enamored of him like Trumpers. They will loyally follow and vote next time for whatever neoliberal corporatist hack the Dems nominate next time, but they won't be in love with him like Trump's followers are. To his supporters, Biden is just another pol.
Lofty Goals, but there seems to be a pattern
TomMcGiverin comments on Jan 5, 2021:
Clinton pushed and signed NAFTA and ended welfare as it had been. So he too was also about increasing income inequality, just like the Repubs. Obama also increased income inequality and pushed trade agreements against the interests of the working class. Obamacare was really the same as Romneycare, which had already happened in MA. Obamacare did not result in universal coverage and was never meant to be affordable for all. Obama also continued all of Bush's wars. You need to see how those two Dems presidents have more in common with the Repubs than they do differences.

TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 30, 2020:
Identity politics is such bullshit and I am so disgusted with the way the Dem Party and the corporate media are so obsessed with it to the exclusion of ever discussing policy instead. It shows how if the 99% would quit being divided over cultural issues and identity politics, we could throw out all the bribed pols and successfully throw the ruling class out of power, even with the cops and military on their side, simply with our overwhelming numbers. But it will never happen, as the media is too good at manipulating the divide and conquer and even if we voted out the duopoly, most of the 99% would be too selfish and chickenshit to get out in the streets and force the cops and military to stay out of the way.

Unfortunately nuance and in depth discussion like this only reaches a tiny portion of Americans, as the rest either tune out news of politics or government policy while the rest of the vast majority just listen superficially as the corporate media spreads the propaganda of the major parties and the ruling class in biased soundbites. If only we had regular events in our fed government where the pols were forced to take a stand on the common welfare, like a floor vote on M4All, and have to own their corrupted loyalty to the donor class. Even then, there would be little to no coverage of it in the corporate media, same as on trade policy and treaties like the TPP. So I guess it really doesn't matter except to the intelligensia.

The original sign has a valid point, even if it's punching down the ladder at someone who's worse off. It's just that the sign doesn't really point people in the right direction over who's really to blame for that contradication, as Marx would say, in our capitalist system. My hunch is that the narcan is available for free to dope addicts as part of a political calculation or tradeoff, supported by the big donors who fund/buy/own our pols that goes something like this: We will allow an exception to our usual capitalist for profit system of healthcare and obscene pharma prices because active dope addicts rob and steal from other people, sometimes commiting violence, which might harm rich people sometimes. So we don't want that or the chaos that goes with it. Otherwise, we'll continue to make huge profits of the rest of the healthcare. This rare form of harm reduction, callous and self-serving as it is, results in lost profits that are hardly missed in the overall picture. Of course, everything I just said goes right over the head of the average person reading the first sign. so they get outraged at the drug companies instead of the real villian, the pols and the people that own, and go vote for a duopoly politician, most likely a Repub, who bashes drug addicts and liberals who coddle them. Suckers, every time.

Tomorrow morning I get the monocolonal infusion therapy for three hours. The doc that treated me on Mon. called me this morning to recommend it and I'm doing it because he's been good for me so far, it won't cost anything, and he said it's what Trump and some big wigs had. I'm eligible because I'm 62, have atril fib and also minor hypertension at times. Doc says it should prevent my mild symptoms so far stay that way and shorten my infection period if it's given within seven days of symptoms, earlier the better. I'll update later. Right now I'm willing to be vaccinated this summer, when my turn likely comes around, if the data for next year support it that far.

TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 10, 2020:
I don't agree that term limits are the answer. Rotating chairmanships might be a good idea. But age by itself is not the issue or the problem. I had to push my late wife to give up driving and quit working after she developed dementia, and it's not easy. But the party leaders and her loved ones need to step up and do the right thing for her, the party, and the country. I wish Biden hadn't been pushed into running and I hope he steps down soon into his administration after Covid and the economy have settled down, before he starts embarrassing himself with his dementia like he was during the primary. I don't know what meds they have him on now to help him function better, but I doubt they will keep working that well for 4 years.

I will always continue to do a fair amount of in person shopping, esp. for clothing and food, because I want to see in person what I'm buying, as well as the convenience and savings, as long as stores continue to allow in person shopping. With clothing I always want to be able to try things on to be sure they fit. I am skeptical about buying everything online and having to go by photos and info about a product. I want to see and touch things most of the time, unless it's a book, DVD or CD. Those things I don't need to see in person to know what I'm buying. Even with electronics, I want to see things in person before buying them, even if it's just a demo model. I can't believe people are willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars on buying a car online that they have not seen in person to look at even a demo model. I don't do impulse buying and most advertising doesn't work on me. I guess I'm just smarter and more skeptical than most.
Pretty funny ad for match.com [youtube.com]

Maybe the morals of the story are that there is a match for everyone and people get the partners they deserve.
Barack Obama & the Death of Idealism The former president’s deception and warmongering killed ...
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 9, 2020:
I always referred to Obama as Barry The Liar, since that described his essence. Like Bill Clinton, he was such a smooth, charming liar that most people overlooked his policies. Maybe that's why, like Reagan, both of them were so popular even tho they promoted policies that hurt most average Americans, who are not very deep thinkers nor are they well-informed on matters of policy, at least.
I love this man.
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 9, 2020:
Bill Clinton and Obama were both neoliberal traitors to the working class and most Americans. Nice to see someone tell the truth that Biden will only be an improvement over Trump in that he will be more stable, better behaved, less openly racist, more supportive of our allies, and, most importantly, much better leadership on Covid. Otherwise, things will all be the same. The swamp will stay full of the same people, same MIC, etc. Only diff is the skin color and gender, identity politics bullshit. What matters is what policies they support and who they serve, which is never the common people.
Why do conservatives always lump Marxists, socialists and communists together as if they were all ...
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 9, 2020:
Because telling the truth means nothing to them, they only care about winning and getting power. So they use the most effective ways of winning by smearing lefties with labels they know continue to have influence with many Americans, esp. older ones.

Are you aware that the largest strike in human history is occurring right now?
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 8, 2020:
You'll never hear about it on corporate media in America. Don't want the peasants to get any silly ideas about doing that here.

Love This. What do you think?
TomMcGiverin comments on Dec 3, 2020:
I love using these arguments on asshole Libertarians, who live in their fantasy bubble of being their own island and never needing other people or government because they are greedy wannabees, as in wannabe rich, which is never gonna happen for them. Another thing they will never admit to. A big reason why our politics are so fucked up is because since the 1980s, with the extreme transfer of wealth to the top 10% income classes, we now have a very large group of people in the top classes that no longer need services from the govt., so they demand the pols give them tax cuts along with service cuts that only affect the bottom 90% classes. These are the people, the multi-millionaires and the income groups of $250 K or more, that the pols actually listen to and serve in their policies, not the average voters. Of course, the same policies are supported by the wannabees who are still part of the bottom 90% of income groups. Talk about cutting your own throat, but they are too deluded to realize they will never make it into the top 10%.

This Copeland guy looks creepy before he even opens his mouth. Sure he didn't have a career in B-movie horror films as a villain?
