Peter Wehner: The Trump Presidency Is Over - The Atlantic
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 13, 2020:
I hope it turns out to be true and Biden could say, like Ford did after Nixon resigned, " Finally, at long last, our long national nightmare is over....". But I doubt it.

No one owes Joe their vote.
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 13, 2020:
The Dems can have and will have earned my vote when they quit standing for nothing but identity politics and multiculturalism, which cost the rich and corporations nothing, and instead start fighting for the lower classes and trying to reverse the class war of the last 40 years. Until then, they can get bent if they try to shame me into voting for their pathetic prez candidates....

You are incorrect sir. The Dem leaders have learned from their mistakes in 2016 and have become more skilled at stopping Bernie and rigging it for their preferred candidate. Never underestimate these evil MFs. To them, losing to Trump is not a mistake, it is a planned and preferred outcome over letting Bernie become prez.

TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 11, 2020:
The Dem party is useless and I hope it finally blows up and is replaced with a true workers party for the 99% or at least for the bottom 90%. The two main problems with the Dem party are its leaders which are part of the 1% as well as all of the suburban members who are part of the top 10% that don't give a shit about the poor or working class members of the party. They are the ones who keep sticking us with neoliberal candidates that do nothing to help the lower classes and are going to lose to Trump anyway.

You got it all right. The Dem leaders would rather lose with a neoliberal centrist than win with a leftist, because a leftist would end their corrupt gravy train with the lobbyists and corporate America. Trump saying he was scared of running against Biden was just a ploy to egg the Dems on into nominating Biden. In a leaked audio recording of a dinner party Trump had in 2018, he admits that he was scared that Bernie might get nominated by the Dems in 2016 and that he thought Bernie would be tough to run against in 2016.

I support you commenting on American politics, both because I support free speech on this site and secondly, because in my experience, people in other countries are often more objective and informed about American politics than the natives here. Probably because they have media that are more honest and objective about what is going on here than the corporate, monopolized media we have here. Also because they are outside of America, they are not part of the tribalism that most Americans are wrapped up in, distorting their views and causing them to vote against their own class interests. The rest of the world, in general, are much more aware of economic class, and are more comfortable applying it to politics. In America, the media won't discuss class, neither will the major parties and so most Americans don't talk about it either.

Biden's problems in identifying who someone is or what day an event is on or which office he is running for are not related to stuttering. I recognize some very familiar patterns with him when he is campaigning and so do many other people who have known people with dementia and have reported on Biden's problems. These are not the same as his gaffes from his previous campaigns when he was younger.

Is it time for America to repeal its double jeopardy law?
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 7, 2020:
The main reason for double jeopardy is to prevent political persecutions of dissidents from the ruling government being endlessly hounded with repeated prosecutions for the same alleged crime. It is a safeguard against dictators keeping their opponents jailed while they continue to fabricate new evidence against them. It is similar to capital punishment, which I also oppose, because in dictatorships the death penalty is unequally applied to political dissidents as well after they have been wrongfully convicted.
Do you fear a possible coronavirus pandemic?
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 7, 2020:
This virus will mainly kill off the elderly and the working poor, both of which are groups that the ruling class sees as expendable. The working poor can easily replaced by more of the same, so no need for the government to help them with a financial bailout to cover medical costs and paid sick leave. The elderly who die will just mean less Medicare and Soc. Sec. for the rich to subsidize. Thinning of the herd indeed..

Otherwise, voters get sidetracked by identity politics over substance in elections and we end with bad leaders who meet diversity standards, but nothing else positive.

Well said. It echoes what Chris Hedges has been saying for years, that the liberals in the Dem party who really only care about abortion and identity politics, not at all about economic equality, the class war, endless wars, climate change, or the lives of the poor and working class, are a group that stands for nothing because they are not willing to fight for any of those things in my long list above. They are useless, phony hypocrites in my book and I wish we had a viable political party that did not include them, while letting them keep their useless Dem party. You also forgot to add that Biden clearly appears to have mild or early dementia, another reason that Trump will rip him to pieces in a debate. I hope Bernie is practical enough to take the gloves off and do it himself in the next debates so we are not stuck with Biden as a nominee, but I doubt it's in his nature and it may be too late anyway to change the minds of Biden's supporters. The Dem voters that you and I are bashing are mostly all in the top 10% of income and wealth, so they are voting their economic interests while pretending to care about the lower classes and maintaining their privilege while keeping the Dem party to the right and focused only on identity politics rather than major change. They are fooling no one like you or me... I also like the lines in your post about the whole practice of "negotiating with yourself", better known to me as the classic Obama "pre-emptive cave" that he would constantly do in the phony practice of pretending to seek bipartisanship with the Repubs that both he and we knew never existed in the first place. This will help Bernie, but how much it helps depends on if she endorses anyone. I'm thinking she will endorse Biden in exchange for some cabinet post or the VP slot. She made that kind of choice four years ago when she didn't endorse Bernie and then later endorsed Hillary during the primaries. So much for being a true progressive...Her own ambition has always been more important for her. I hope I am wrong about her, but I haven't been so far. Maybe her supporters are progressive enough to think for themselves and support Bernie anyway, as many of her female supporters have been backing her over Bernie mostly because they want a female prez. TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 4, 2020:
I wish that would happen too, but right now I hope the Dem party finally blows up after they lose, again, in November, which will happen not because Bernie supporters stay home or vote Trump, but because working class voters who have given up on the Dems will stay home when they see there is no real difference for them between Biden and Trump. But we all know the centrist Dems will still end up blaming the Bernie supporters or maybe the Russians again (falsely) for their loss in the general rather than themselves.. I call bullshit on that and will not accept it when it happens from them.
Wait.. WHAT?
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 4, 2020:
I don't think Trump outsmarted the Dems by pretending to be more afraid of running against Biden than Bernie. It was instead all a matter of the Dem leaders and establishment being afraid of Bernie ending their perks and corruption, which is what they care about, not beating Trump.
From my friend Jim, with whom I often agree. What do you think?
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 4, 2020:
I agree with you, Bernie would beat Trump but, once again, we will never find out since he's screwed again by the Dem party. I have offered bets to three people who are centrist Dem friends that Biden will lose to Trump, but they won't take the bet. They know Biden will lose, but can't bring themselves to admit Bernie would win against Trump or say they would vote for him. I am willing to bet each of them $25, which they can easily afford, but they won't bet me...

TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 4, 2020:
I will hold my nose and vote for Biden in the general if he wins the nomination, but I will do so expecting nothing positive from him as prez. Like Obama, he would be better than Trump, but not much. Probably would be better on climate change and less hostile to immigrants, otherwise business as usual, no improvement on healthcare, maybe better policies on coronavirus...The Dem party is doomed for good with a Biden nomination and I am absolutely certain Biden will lose to Trump anyway tho and my bet still stands with the three people who refused to take my bet. They know I'm right, but they can't stand to admit how bad a candidate Biden is and that they are wrong to back him. Biden appears to also have mild or early dementia, unlike Bernie, but his supporters don't care about that. They are happy members of the top 10% and want the status quo to remain, just won't admit it. At this point Biden reminds me of Reagan in 1980, a grandfatherly figure who, we now know, had early dementia at that time, but appealed to people because he seemed reassuring and comforting to them, even tho his policies were hostile to the working class and he became a national embarrassment to people like me, same as Trump. Yup, all you fools that support Biden, you will get the added years of Trump and you deserve it, but the shame of it is, I DON'T deserve it and I am sick of suffering for your mistakes and selfishness....

The problem is the Dem establishment does not really care that much about defeating Trump, despite all their talk about unity and the importance of defeating Trump. Their real concern is stopping Bernie, but admitting that would alienate the working class voters they need to appear to be a legit alternative to the Repubs, so they'll keep lying about those things for the next several months. I have made a bet to three different friends who are Dem centrists, who support Warren or Biden, that I will bet each of them $25 that Biden will get crushed by Trump in general election debates, get creamed by Trump ads about Joe's record, and that Biden will lose badly to Trump in the general, all of which I predict if Bernie gets screwed again out of the nomination. None of these three people will take my bet, because they know I am right about it.

That's why even if the Dems stop Bernie, the anger among most Americans over inequality won't go away. If need be, we will wait until AOC is old enough to run. Trickle down economics is a dishonest way of referring to what is actually the rich pissing on everyone below them.....
Watching Petey giving his lame excuse of a concession speech.

Looks like Petey will be Biden's VP if he gets the nomination..

TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 2, 2020:
Too bad centrists and the party establishment are unwilling to listen to or accept these facts. They like the status quo as it is, unlike the majority of voters, and they just want someone else instead of Trump to maintain that status quo for them. In their denial of these facts, they are no better than Trump, with his charges of fake news and his embrace of "alternative facts", better known as lies, to you and me.

The next to drop out will be Klobuchar and she will get out right after Super Tuesday. I don't see Bloomberg dropping out anytime soon, tho I wish he had never ran.
Another one bites the dust. Pete's out of the race.
TomMcGiverin comments on Mar 1, 2020:
I hated that little weasel, but I'm sure he cut a deal with Biden to either be VP or a cabinet post for dropping out and giving Biden less competition for the centrist vote. Wish Warren would drop out and endorse Bernie, but based on her record I doubt she would be progressive enough to do that. She has always in the past been more interested in her own ambition than in getting a progressive as prez.
