Was religion an old form of government?
TomMcGiverin comments on May 5, 2021:
For many people, religion, with its emphasis on the afterlife, and people being rewarded then for good behavior in this life, functions as a way to get people to put up with being poor and oppressed by the rich in this life. So in that way, it does prevent revolution and the poor robbing the rich.

Update: The first meeting/date last night with the other of the two women I have been chatting with went really well. I helps that we had video chatted a few times before meeting in person and had also been having daily phone chats after moving on from the video chats. Really enjoy her company in person and also felt some chemistry and physical attraction. She was very easy and comfortable to talk to and I felt very relaxed and at home with her. Had dinner to celebrate her birthday early and then went to karaoke for an hour or so, where I got to sing for her twice. She really enjoyed the meetup and said so when we talked by phone today. We both agreed and told each other we should be able to at least be lasting good friends even if the dating part doesn't work out. I am still going to go slow on anything physical with her, tho it was clear she feels some of the same attraction. We had a long, slow hug before she got in her car to leave, after I walked her to it, and after the hug she gave me a quick, enthusiastic kiss on the cheek after she was surprised by me not leaning forward for a kiss after the hug. Did not want to lead her on or encourage her too soon. I responded by giving her a quick, somewhat awkward kiss on her cheek. I think she gets my caution and that it's nothing personal. We are meeting for a few hours again, plans made over a week ago, to go on a winery walk in her town next Sat.. After that, I'll see what happens. We first started messaging in the middle of March, so it was a relief to finally meet in person. She looks better in person, as do most people do, than in her current pics. I thought her figure was noticeably better in person than in photos.

One other point I'll add, just for shits and giggles, this woman's profile pics, all six of them, were all head shots, not one of her body, which actually was a fairly good figure. TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 30, 2021:
Personally, tho I know it will sound like sour grapes, I and a friend I processed this experience with, think that I dodged a bullet here. All is not lost, tho, because tomorrow night I have sort of a first meeting/date with a woman that I have been not only messaging with on Batch, but also moved on to video chatting with and talking on the phone about every day for almost three weeks. She is down to earth, and I already feel pretty comfortable being myself with her. I think there is at least a good lasting friendship there if both of us want it, should it fail to pan out as a romantic relationship. We have a lot of shared interests and she is funny and smart. Also seems a hell of a lot more honest than the woman from today. But at least I will see her in person tomorrow to celebrate her birthday a few days early with dinner and karaoke. I am also planning to see her for a winery walk where she lives next Sat.. Hopefully those two experiences will tell me enough to know if there is the right kind of chemistry or attraction on my part. If I feel there isn't, I will be straight with her that I'm not interested in continuing with her unless it's as just a friend and with the agreement that we each should keep looking for other people to date romantically. I may be a lot of things, but I really hate and try not to be a hypocrite.

9-11 and the Jan. 6 riot were inside jobs, where the perps either had help or the authorities let it happen because it benefited them. I also believe the Boston Marathon bombing was an inside job. Nice song. I like how his voice is simple and unembellished, without all that American Idol crap where they do all these vocal tricks and such to show off. What I like even more is his song about country music where he satirizes the genre and the pandering of it stars to their audience.

Then it matters to me, but I couldn't care less what they believe or do in their private lives.

The CIA Used To Infiltrate The Media.
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 17, 2021:
I have found that most people on the liberal side of the spectrum either lack the interest to seek alternative news sources or refuse to question the corporate media or the Dem Party establishment because they lack the strength and courage to deal with facing the reality that the corporate media and the Dem leadership are lying to them about anything that involves the interests of average Americans. It is simply too much for them to believe that continuing to elect corporate Dems will be never be enough to actually change anything for the everyday reality of most Americans. They see the increases in chaos and violence around our country and refuse to make the connection between it and a failed system, instead they see it all as unconnected and due to causes like simply availability of guns or underfunded mental health care. They fail to see how it's all connected to the growing rage that people feel, even if they don't really understand what they feel rage about. That rage fueled support for Trump and it will continue to feed support for the next Repub dictator, unless the people are given a real choice between that and a left wing populist in a general election. The system is not sustainable for keeping order and peace in the US. In the end, it will only result in either revolution or a fascist crackdown followed by permanent martial law and a dictatorship. Most likely it will be the latter.

How Men Treat Women They Find Unfuckable
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 8, 2021:
Even tho I am prone to often use the F-word myself, I find the use here of the term unfuckable gratuitously vulgar and somewhat offensive. I wonder if the author is using it purposely to express anger towards men and possibly a bit of misandry on her part. Regardless, I feel it would be more accurate and less offensive to simply say unattractive rather than the choice she used. When I look at a woman and simply conclude I do not find her attractive physically, at the time I am more likely to thinking more of whether I would want to kiss or hug her, rather than immediately or automatically thinking of whether I would be interested in sex with her. When I first see a woman's photos, whether in a dating profile or some other format, or for that matter encounter her in public, I often do form a quick impression of them either looking attractive or not, but I don't think I change my behavior towards them very much based on that assessment, at least not when I encounter them in person. I still try to see the humanity in everyone, male or female, and treat them with kindness.
How Men Treat Women They Find Unfuckable
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 7, 2021:
For the umpteenth time, I will say it again, it goes both ways. Even tho it was a few decades ago, I still keenly remember both in the dating game and from people of both genders in general, how much better I was treated and regarded when I was much younger and had both a full head of hair and an athletic body. I no longer have an athletic body this time around in the dating game, but my body weight is still average, but apparently I don't have the looks required or demanded by women in the top 50% of the dating pool I use in my dating site, because I seldom get replies from women in that segment of the dating pool and also of the twelve Likes that were sent to me since I became active again in the last few months with the site, only two of those women were average looking, the rest were below average looking and none of them were above average-looking. The assertion below by Detritus appears to be right on the mark about the top 50% of women in looks only being interested in guys who were in the top 20% for looks and money.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 6, 2021:
Decriminalized prostitution sounds like a fair and positive social policy. Too bad it has no chance of ever happening in America because of how politically strong our evangelical and Catholic churches are. And all the while so many of their ministers, priests, and congregation members continue to visit prostitutes illegally now and would continue to do so on the sly if it were decriminalized here. To me, it sounds like decriminalized prostitution makes it no different than massage therapy or physical therapy, just that it will never be covered under health insurance policies like those two services.

TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 4, 2021:
I am less than overwhelmed with diversity in the military. How is it progress for the military to allow gay, trans people and racial minorities to serve when the overreaching goals and accomplishments of the American military these days is to oppress and kill colored people overseas with drones or more conventional slaughter on the ground of foreigners? I would rather see progress here at home with more inclusion of the above minority groups in government decision-making and access to decent jobs and healthcare. It's the same as electing a woman or a black man as prez. Whoop- tee-freakin'-doo.. How does it make any difference or change anything if the person elected supports the same policies and power arrangements as a white man? That sort of ID politics bullshit is what I really hated about Obama and what few people seemed to catch onto.

Happy birthday, Abraham Maslov.
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 3, 2021:
Most people are not aware of this, but Maslow is also largely responsible for designing the AA Twelve Step program for alcoholics. He was involved with the two founders of the program in writing the steps. That program changed the world.
Guns: The Real versus Phony Debate | Egalitarianism
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 3, 2021:
Guns and other culture war issues, like religion, abortion, gays, etc. are just distractions to divide the masses against each other so they don't unite and revolt. Until that happens, the large majorities that want things from the system will never get any of it.
The Liberal Contempt for Martin Luther King’s Final Year The anniversary of his assassination ...
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 3, 2021:
At the end of King's life, he not only opposed militarism, but also capitalism itself. Being against both of those was too much for the ruling class, so they had him whacked.
46 Million in US Say They Would Not Be Able to Afford Needed Health Care
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 2, 2021:
It wouldn't matter if 80 or 100% of adults wanted these things, what matters is what the donor class wants, and it's not affordable healthcare for the serfs. They no longer need most of us.
It’s Not Burnout, It’s Moral Injury
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 2, 2021:
Part of it is our shitty, for-profit healthcare system that was never designed for handling a pandemic. I also remember how, a couple decades ago, that political pundits used to say that if we ever had a pandemic that threatened the rich thru a virus spreading thru the public to them, that we might finally get universal health care. Even that turned out to be wrong.
We Can’t Afford to Live Anymore, and The Rich Are Gaslighting Us It’s doing serious damage.
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 2, 2021:
I always knew I would be too poor to afford kids, plus my parents were terrible role models for me about parenting, so I am childless by choice and never have regretted it, even tho when I was young it cost me any chance for LTRs in the dating game. Even with all that, I still was never financially secure until I was 59 years old, three years ago, when I inherited enough money to retire and could begin receiving SS Survivor's benefits at age 60. Until then, my whole adult life was living paycheck to paycheck and being poor.
Is there any more worthless of a sentiment than "thoughts and prayers?
TomMcGiverin comments on Apr 2, 2021:
I have a favorite T-shirt made by a local store that specializes in snarky shirts. It has a big headline of "Thoughts And Prayers" followed by a definition of how there is no factual basis for them accomplishing anything and that is followed by recommended actions such as protest and legislation to correct wrongs, etc. It's fun to see the reactions to it by mainstream believers...
