I remember when even parents were brought up on charges, in fact all gun deaths were investigated above the cop on the street. Usually parents who were found guilty got fines, seldem jail time. I thought I was pretty good in gym, until my senior year the principal called me in to tell me I was flunking- I wasn't wearing the proper shorts, mine had torn. So, I showed up with my torn shorts and my fully exposed jock strap. I said I wasn't buying new shorts as I had plenty (I played tennis and soccer). I got exempt as the teacher knew I would go outside dressed like that.

Each individual Catholic church is lead by their priest and in turn influenced by their bishop. Which is why some Catholics have a pretty blasse, for religion, experience and others suffer greatly. My first full time teaching gig was at a Catholic school. My insurance from them also covered my vasectomy - it did not cover our birth control and my ex used Planned Parenthood. That was 87. Offhand, I don't know the case, but in Education Law in college (for future teachers) they decided a case when one state wanted to pay the salaries of Catholic school teachers, fearing a Catholic school collapse would inundate public schools - ironically, back then, it was the church that fought this for fear of having to follow governmental regulations. We can only hope, if it does pass, which by the Constitution it should not, our next government will stiffen the regs, or simply enforce them.
