I've used those same words, teaching my kids how to think and not what to think, many times in explaining to others how I approached the subject. My kids each went to services with their friends, my boy went to a Mormon temple, a Buddhist temple, a super church, and catholic mass. He liked the Buddhists - "The food was better." - but he and my daughter wound up solid atheist.
