How Physics Erases The Beginning Of The Universe
Robecology comments on Aug 20, 2020:
1000 years ago - the earth was the center of the universe 500 years ago - we realized we and others are orbiting the sun 100 years ago - we assumed other stars might have planets 20 years ago we discovered hundreds of stars with thousands of planets. Who's to say that our universe is the only...
Robecology replies on Aug 20, 2020:
@yvilletom You support my point. I think it's almost naive to suggest there was a "Beginning to the universe". I foresee that we'll eventually discover that there were multiple "big bangs" and that our universe is by no means the only one.

Again; The more of any organism per unit of area sharing the resources.; the less of that resource, and the more one has to struggle/fight for that resource. @Admin Thanks for jumping in. You seem to suggest that both sides are equally aggressive/assertive with few/insufficient facts. I beg to differ...and my colleagues back me up as well. Your point is well taken; both sides get arrogant, impatient, testy, and righteous. But that's why we have freedom of speech....and thank you for giving us all a platform to expound our anger. But fact-based comments do come more from the liberal/progressive/left than they do from the conservative/righ - and research backs me up on this; https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/words-matter/201810/why-people-ignore-facts Even the name has a bias to favor the right; we all know the history and idealogical slant of "being Left" in a right handed world. @Freedompath You said "I would argue that there is enough...it’s the excess that there isn’t enough of! " which is contradictory. I've directed students to do experiments with fruit flies...and with ants...in self-contained communities. The results were consistent; populations explode; then subside as wastes build and food depletes. Recycling can't keep up; and the populations crash usually due to self-toxicity (we never studied the "diseases" they caught....but it was clear some just starved to death, some died of widespread infections) https://eprints.lse.ac.uk/22514/1/2308Ramadams.pdf It's simple really; There's a natural trend to overpopulate due to the generally high loss rate. But we humans invented health. We got "preventative"...so we're keeping folks alive - to starve and struggle. A course correction is happening. The trend towards smaller families and being "child-free" as opposed to "childless" is happening... ...but it appears too slowly to stop more pandemics, more global warming, and perhaps our extinction (along with the extinction of many related species that depend on us for survival). Sad to say...but we agnostics face death better than most. And I suffer the same quirks in my family; one is horribly pro-Trump, one is (was) frightfully religious. Some we just can't debate with on any level. But we can't "name call" these folk. They're suffering, they've gone over to "the dark side" and it's pretty much hopeless to change them.

@Gmak Your definition of atheist is correct; your evaluation of me is not. Thus -if you like categorizations and pigeon-holing - I'm agnostic, but not quite atheist. I, too think Jesus taught a lot of good things. He allegedly said that it's wise to care for those "who need it most" to "turn the other cheek" and many strategies allegedly said by a Jesus. - so I also follow in Jesus' teachings..I just don't "believe" in any of the hocus-pocus that's been attributed to him. @bingst You and I are comfortable assuming that; but if you argue/debate with anyone on "the right" we're the ones who are emotional, they're the fact-based ones. When I try (as I often do) to share facts with "the right" they say my sources are biased ("Fake news") and that their sources are more fact based. This is not an easy road we're on. We have to bring scientific methodology and true fact-research in to the fore to make any headway or we are going to be dominated by the #religulous/conservative right. @AnneWimsey and @Mitch07102 Sorry - no links from you...another scientific link from me...I believe the research before you. "Unhealthy fats There are two main types of potentially harmful dietary fats: Saturated fat. This type of fat comes mainly from animal sources of food, such as red meat, poultry and full-fat dairy products. Saturated fats raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL or "good") cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol levels, which may increase your risk of cardiovascular disease. Trans fat. This type of fat occurs naturally in some foods in small amounts. But most trans fats are made from oils through a food processing method called partial hydrogenation. These partially hydrogenated trans fats can increase total blood cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, but lower HDL cholesterol. This can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease. Most fats that have a high percentage of saturated fat or that contain trans fat are solid at room temperature. Because of this, they're typically referred to as solid fats. They include beef fat, pork fat, butter, coconut oil, shortening and stick margarine." https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/fat/art-20045550

This research was the basis for dietary guidelines that have long recommended people cut their saturated fat intake to stave off their risk of this leading killer." @Mitch07102 So you're suggesting a water-based fast? Then of course you will lose weight...unless on the off days you have a calorie excess. Calories in...calories out. More in than out? weight gain. More out than in (high water diet) weight lost. Hunger is more important than most realize. Every animal...even most of our pets...experience hunger. We humans...with the abundant availability of snacks and food...rarely experience hunger. Hence America is suffering an obesity epidemic. Wanna fix it? Don't be afraid of hunger. No need to count calories....just let hunger in to your life. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/map_of_the_week/2013/04/obesity_in_america_cdc_releases_gif_of_epidemic_over_time.html
The lies.

Unfortunately he had a lot of people convinced that he's a hero. Republicans unite behind their guy no matter what. Democrats have left wing factions that refuse to support a more conservative Dem. That's how they win key states. Hopefully this year democrats unite.
Robecology replies on Jul 26, 2020:
What's weird to me is that these powerful anti-Trump video/ads are from Republicans. I'm confused about why they, of all people, are so effectively producing anti Trump videos. I have yet to see a democrat-produced video that comes near the power of the Lincoln project videos.

There is a simple answer: anyone who infects another when not wearing a mask and that person dies be charged with manslaughter if not murder.
Robecology replies on Jul 26, 2020:
Good luck tracing that. That's very, very hard to prove.

I heard that they help stop you passing the virus to other people and it doesn't protect the wearer.
Robecology replies on Jul 26, 2020:
That's why wearing a mask is a sign of respect for others. The science says it doesn't filter air inhaled nearly as much as air exhaled - hence wearing one assures folks around you that you're conscientious about social needs.

If it was Australian it would be Vegemite not peanut butter! If Chinese stir fried vegetables. - More evidence that the C19 virus came from an American lab?
Robecology replies on Jul 26, 2020:
Stop with the silly conspiracy theories. Science traced it back to the habits of enjoying raw foods that are popular among the poor In oriental nations. As a demographer it boils down to population growth...more and more fighting for less and less...while viral and bacterial infections find new victims easier and faster. Malthus said it well...over 200 years ago; "As the quantity (of any one species in any given area) increases, the quality of life decreases".
