The Lyrics to the Eagles song...brilliant; The Last Resort Eagles She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee, Just as her father came across the sea She heard about a place people were smilin', They spoke about the red man's way, how they loved the land And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide Down in the crowded bars out for a good time, Can't wait to tell you all what it's like up there And they called it paradise, I don't know why Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert, Through the canyons of the coast to the Malibu Where the pretty people play hungry for power To light their neon way and give them things to do Some rich man came and raped the land, nobody caught 'em, Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and, Jesus, people bought 'em And they called it paradise, the place to be, They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina Just like the missionaries did so many years ago They even brought a neon sign 'Jesus is Coming', Brought the white man's burden down, brought the white man's reign Who will provide the grand design, what is yours and what is mine? 'Cause there is no more new frontier, we have got to make it here We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds In the name of destiny and in the name of God And you can see them there on Sunday morning Stand up and sing about what it's like up there They called it paradise, I don't know why You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Glenn Frey / Don Henley The Last Resort lyrics © Warner Chappell Music, Inc

Sorry, @DonaldHRoberts -for you to assume that one culture, the "asians" in this case - will dominate the planet in the future is racist. As I've pointed out (below) and if you think about it....there's a growing number of Asian-anglo and Afro-asian and Afro-anglo intermarriages. In a few generations - perhaps 100 years or less - it's very likely there will be no "asians" nor anyone of any unusual sub-specific identifiable features (dark skin/light skin/lipid-protected eyelids, etc) we'll all be interbred. Now - will A communist/socialist leadership take over? Will a forceful government try to bridle in their people? That's possible...Fidel Castro, when asked why he favored communism, explained in simple words; "the People are not disciplined". If we continue to grow (158 more births than deaths, per minute, world-wide) then we'll either get our numbers controlled by wars, diseases, or the discipline of a strict 1-child-per-family communist manifesto. The choice is ours....soon we won't have a choice. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/

Robecology replies on Sep 14, 2019:
@MojoDave Not to my knowledge, either....but when I heard about how our oceans filled up with a "rain of comets" - I did research. I discovered that to be named a "comet" that they have to be a coma (actually an atmosphere) surrounding a nucleus (up to 99% pure H2O) and a tail (the remains, or leftover "tailing" of the nucleus). That they are probably extra-solar (from outside our solar system). That they're mostly large chunks of mostly frozen H20 water (can also be frozen Ammonia and/or Methane). Asteroids are mostly rocky, and mostly formed within our solar system (no tails, no "coma" no eccentric orbits). It's logical that solar systems within our galactic neighborhood are likely to have formed, including planets with liquid oceans....and then died. When these systems, or their planets - died, or their oceanic planets exploded, large chunks of their ocean...now exposed to the bitter cold of space - were flash frozen - and set adrift. Some - in theory - found their way to us. We're not likely to be the first planet to have evolved life - nor are we the only one - nor the last.

@Besalbub Not a good answer. The fox population is then artificially stimulated to grow due to this slow, messy, but friendly bird - that does a lot of harm to natural bird wildlife. The foxes then grow in numbers..and then wild native birds are threatened as well. It's a species of national concern. Here's comments on it by the 2010 "Federal Register" "We received comments from States and individuals expressing concern over control of muscovy ducks in response to the 2006 proposal to add the species to the list of those protected under the MBTA (50 CFR 10.13). In general, States expressed concern over feral and free-ranging populations of muscovy ducks present as the result of human activity. For example, one State was concerned that protecting the species under the MBTA “would severely impede our efforts to manage the feral and free-ranging populations of domestic muscovy ducks.” Sorry I couldn't find more current articles; but if you do some research you'll see they're becoming a serious, spreading problem. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2010/03/01/2010-3284/migratory-bird-permits-control-of-muscovy-ducks-revisions-to-the-waterfowl-permit-exceptions-and

@Heraclitus Point taken. Energy, matter...it was all - according to Big Bang theorists - at one finite and yet minuscule point...and then exploded. Is it so far fetched to think that once the universe of stars run out of energy...or have all their energy turned to "matter" that that matter might have mass...and hence, gravity? Might we further theorize that if the energy of the Big Bang is spent and it's all "matter" - all mass - that gravity takes over....and returns the far-flung universe to a central point once again? And that matter; accelerating as it gathers...condenses in to a finite point - and by being compressed returns to its' energy state? ....and the Big Bang repeats itself? ...as I and others (see/read the link above) have proposed has happened many, many, many times? I think that's the most logical conclusion.

@Heraclitus It's too simplistic to think that "before time and the universe existed" all matter was at a finite point and then exploded. It's much more logical to allow that matter explodes, goes through stages, expands, dies (as all life appears to do) and then contracts (since the "Big Bang" energy has been used up, or converted to matter) into a ball...so dense...that it explodes again. In other words, I don't think the "universe is only a few dozen billion years old. And it allows me to have one portion - filling but not stuffing - so I'm hungry by bedtime and can lose a little weight. There's a low sugar Ricotta; or you could sub-in cottage cheese. There's also low carb/high protein lasagna noodles to make this a protein dense/low carb meal. Remember; most of the calories from eggs come from the yolks...it pays to separate them out IMO....you still get the binding action of the whites without the calories. Oh...and to answer your question about Everglades seasoning....I'm a cheapskate with all seasonings....except my Everglades. It just seems to be a perfect balance. I do concur about your comments on greed. It's a sickness....I blogged about it years ago as being the "Perfect addiction"... http://robecology.blogspot.com/2016/12/greed-perfect-addiction-and-one-factor.html?q=ffc There's several reasons why I chose to retire here (on the beach in Ft. Pierce); 1. This building is built well....great shutters, solidly built (see image). 2. I'm well insured. A storm can trash the entire contents and I can rebuild/replace for under $100k. 3. Great view, great privacy, Great access to a natural wonder - the ocean! 4. I have decent alternatives to stay elsewhere in the event of a storm. 5. Ft. Pierce beaches are 16 feet above mean high tide; higher than most beaches in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm beach. On top of that our community build a several mile long, 15 foot high sand dune - well vegetated.(see images). 6. I lived through Andrew in '92...went outside at 3 AM to see the 5 mile high inside wall illuminated by the moon...will never forget that image in my head. 7.I live here because I chose to...not because I have to.

Actually; I did more research; The Outer banks, where most of these "stubborn" folk live that you want to plow under, have a very low COL...and homes on the Outer banks are among the cheapest in the nation. The folks who live there are also very much there because that's the income life they chose - or was handed down to them. https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/population.html

Please don't be so naive as to assume we can get the right to simply "plow under" homes that exist on beaches. The wealthiest own the most deluxe waterfront homes...and they're actually betting (via paying insurance) that a storm DOES take out their property...so they can rebuild bigger, stronger, and higher above sea level.

@Captain_Feelgood Point taken; but your report also said... "Players who had a playing-time BMI of 30 or more had twice the risk of death from heart disease compared to other players. Similar findings have been noted in other studies. Offensive and defensive linemen were more likely to have a BMI greater than 30. A BMI of 30 or more is considered obese in the general population whereas a healthy BMI is between 18.5-24.9. African American players had a 69% higher risk of death from heart disease compared to Caucasian players. The study controlled for player size and position and determined that those factors are not the reason for this difference. Defensive linemen had a 42% higher risk of death from heart disease compared to men in the general population. A total of 41 defensive linemen died of heart disease, when we anticipated 29 deaths based on estimates from the general population. Among the 41 defensive linemen who died of heart disease, 8 deaths were due to cardiomyopathy (a specific kind of heart disease that causes the heart to enlarge and can lead to heart failure). We anticipated fewer than two deaths from cardiomyopathy. We saw this increased risk only among the defensive linemen. So in summary; the pro football player lives a healthier lifestyle than most Americans while he's on the team; but his pro career is short due to the life-threatening nature of the sport. And, those who are offensive and defensive linemen (most of the "unsung heroes") suffer a shorter life.

I must take pics of this new wooden bridge built over dry land near me here in Ft. Pierce; It had to have been expensive...several hundred feet long, at least 10 feet above the (still) dry land below it....but obviously planning for the future. It goes from the main road (A-1-A) to the beach....where they're planning a housing project. Remember - the wealthy can afford insurance. @JackPedigo I don't see us "beating ourselves up" for using our resources...but I will get angry at the greedy who take advantage of tax loopholes and profit scams (taking businesses overseas, for example) to make themselves rich while devastating the environment. Why? Because unlike all other organisms on this planet - we can plan. We can foresee the future. We can do the math which projects behaviors. So we are, indeed, far different from the deer and rabbit that just eat and reproduce depending on the resources available. We can foresee that trouble is coming. It's those #Relgulous who suggest our future's "in gods hands" that I fault. But your point is taken; if we crash....it is our own damned fault. BDS....Boycott, Divest and Sanction Israel....Is it fair? Are we funding the Israeli war machine ...
jniece comments on Aug 21, 2019:
shouldn't be funding Israel or Saudi Arabia! Both are disgusting war mongers
Robecology replies on Aug 21, 2019:
Yep; https://fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf and take a look at this; Israel might have hundreds of nuclear-tipped missiles on submarines that the U.S gave them....Here's the reason Iran wants nukes... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Israel
Found this on FB...being a former science teacher and "birder" it caught my eye; it's a short video ...
Varn comments on Aug 20, 2019:
You’re not a former birder, are you :-) That was great, though trying to follow them by species, or number didn’t work well for me.. Love Cornell, though ~

True; once a "birder' always a birder....

We fund them way too much.
Robecology replies on Aug 21, 2019:
Here's the specifics; and I concur 100% "Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. To date, the United States has provided Israel $142.3 billion (current, or noninflation-adjusted, dollars) in bilateral assistance and missile defense funding. Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the form of military assistance..." https://fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf
Earth's Magnetic North Pole is Shifting South, So What Now? [youtube.com]
Robecology comments on Aug 14, 2019:
NBD; few use mechanical compasses any more; and the computer data updates the shift often; more than once a day. The basic cause? The earth's core is plastic, fluid, and moving. Not the case for neither moon nor mars....which is a big reason why we can't live there; the molten, fluid core ...
Robecology replies on Aug 21, 2019:
@EdEarl Hans "best statistics" still don't impress me...I'm still reading this; "Today 384,701 people will be born and 156,936 people will die, resulting in a net gain of 227,765 humans (give or take a few thousand) - in one day. That's 158 more per minute. This year 140 million babies will be born and 57 million people will die. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/ ZPG is not expected until the end of the century; and by then the earth's temperatures might have created such drastic changes in our ecosystems that a population crash, or plummet, is probable. https://populationeducation.org/what-zero-population-growth-or-zpg/

Robecology comments on Aug 19, 2019:
There's two sides to the relationship coin. You assume that "it will evolve into causing heartache" and suffering. Do you mean you've never had an ecstatic and ultra-pleasurable relationship? Sad. That's the other side of the coin. That's why people keep seeing intimate ...
Robecology replies on Aug 21, 2019:
You're being argumentative. Read your original comment. You ARE assuming; this comment - "full well knowing it will evolve into causing heartache for one and/or both??" is an assumption. I was trying to make you see the positive possibilities... You just want to debate. Have a good life.

There's no posts because Battling Obesity is tough to admit - and as I've shown you and others often...it's an epidemic in this nation....but it's one that many ignore or look the other way. Kudos to you, Ed, for facing this and doing battle... Here's the GIF.... ...

@EdEarl The point is not to "blame" the point is to act, or not act, on your condition. And the solution is three fold; change in diet, change in exercise, and change in lifestyle. Awareness breeds action. Blaming breeds inaction,

As a demographer - I think the answer - of the reason why the "sensate culture" the culture of relaxation, and simple pleasures" is dying...is simple; -we're overpopulated; and we're growing (births minus deaths) at the rate of 158 more per minute, 227,000 per day. Malthus; "As the quantity ...

@JackPedigo But it's this emphasis on immigration without looking at the causes that's the real issue. And we...the industrialized nations...are the root cause of their overpopulation, and consequential immigration to the "land of plenty" If some day we achieve economic equality then they won't want to migrate to us. https://www.cgdev.org/media/who-caused-climate-change-historically
