I just say thank you but I rarely feel any compliments I'm given are genuine and more that the giver is just being polite. Worst case I feel they're being sarcastic in which case I deflect and probably throw in a self deprecating remark. It's hard to accept a compliment.

@Marcie1974 There is nothing pathetic about it at all. Down here no one cares about that. It is not unusual at all for women to go out by themselves. I don't go out every night, maybe a couple of nights a week. I usually have one drink, so it isn't expensive. There are other ways to socialize if you are uncomfortable going to a bar. It is good to get out of your own head and those negative thoughts.
