Looking to find like minded people and a special guy
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
HI, Jess, and welcome to the website! Good to see another "other." I'm a nonbinary, androgyne, partial transmale who is also a demisexual. You can earn points, and help members get to know you if you write a profile and answer the profile questions, since that's the first place many people look when they see a new member. Then you make comments and write your own posts to earn more points, and when you reach level two, you can private message people.
Some places just don't deserve to remain in business.
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
Gracious! Hope you get her in a better place, and win a neglect lawsuit as well, while you're at it. When we had to put my dad into a nursing home for a few days when nobody was available to help lift him from his wheelchair, when I went to get him, he was eating cake, and his blood sugar was through the roof. We had to work frantically to normalize him, and from then on, we privately hired a part time worker to come in daily, to help out.
Hi. Any woman out there who can speak Spanish?
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
I can speak Spanish, but learned it from growing up in Haiti, so I'm not very fluent right now, although it comes back to me rather quickly. I also spoke Creole and French in Haiti, since the west side of the island speaks those languages. Right now I speak Thai the most, since I've been living in Thailand since 2010. But if you are looking for someone who grew up in a Latin culture, that's not me. My parents were American missionaries, so I got US Caucasian culture, alongside French/African culture, with many Domican Republican friends, who spoke Spanish. I also taught for one semester in Hermosillo, MX, in 2001, and was fluent in Spanish during that time.

I just finished reading the 'Righteous Mind' by Jonathan Haidt.
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
It would have saved Jonathan Heidt a lot of time if he'd read the results of recent study first. A large group of people was given a political survey to determine if they were liberal or conservative, then the entire group was led through a meditation where they visualized themselves safe and secure. Afterward, everyone was given another political survey, but this time, the answers of the former conservatives matched those of the liberals. Conclusion: Hitler, Trump, and other Machiavelli's The Prince admirers know what they're doing when they whip people into a frezy of fear of the "others' who are going to "take away your guns" or "take away your jobs," etc. Fear is behind conservative power.
Which Star Trek series is your favorite?
birdingnut comments on May 14, 2018:
The original. I've tried the others, but have become so impatient and annoyed with all the drama and emotion, that usually after only 15 minutes, I'm turning to another show. But NOT "Lost in Space" (shudder).
I won't be on here, or anywhere for a while.

birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
Since studies show that most male traits are found in the right hemisphere of the brain, and female traits on the left, I assume that the older people get, the lower the levels of gender hormones. With age: Women begin to get male issues; chin hair, lower voices, steadier moods, etc. Men tend to get "man boobs" and get higher voices, become less aggressive. The waning of the birth gender hormones probably tends to free up areas of the brain that the higher levels of birth gender hormones, useful for procreation, used to suppress. This gives older people access to more of both sides of their brains, if they are keeping their brains active. This falls in line with the common observation that the older married couples become, the more they look and act alike. My usual warning whenever I mention gender issues; if you troll me, I'll only block you.
Why do men think that they should be with younger women?
birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
Easy. Men live longer when they marry younger women, but women who marry younger men, die younger by many years. Link: Men live longer when they marry younger spouses. These dating sites and apps are so sad and shallow.
birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
No, you're right. And most of the men here do the same..look a photo, then start in on women with zero knowledge or interest in them as people. Because of this blind spot, most men here don't write profiles or answer the profile questions because THEY never look at them. Look! A hot woman! I think I'll go for her! The few men who do write profiles and talk about women's actual hobbies and interests are often men strong in female traits, who see woman as people, not just a "score," although, if they are cis hetero, they are also sexually attracted to them. Since studies show that most high IQ creative people are androgynous (mixed gender traits), and statistically, agnostics and atheists are higher IQ than the general population, there is a high percentage of androgynous people here. As usual, if you try to troll me, I'll just block you. I know how gender issues can bring on the trollers.
Sometimes life is overwhelming.

Just toggled over to OKCupid which said a "married bisexual" man was a 96% match for me.
birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
I'm getting "matches" from this website for Filipinos and Taiwanese, because they're the "nearest." Um, NO. Not only are they in a DIFFERENT country, if I wanted to date Asians, I could do that here in Songkhla, Thailand, but I've learned that anyone NOT an educated Caucasian American of similar background, who starts courting me is after the status and benefits of dating a Caucasian American. Besides, not interested, since only a few countries and social statuses accept women as equals. The rest see them as meat/baby makers/status symbols/second class citizens. Even in America, of course, since redneck men also pursue me.,to get an "edducated woman."
Sending good wishes to anyone who's having a hard time today.

Both my parents passed away in 2008. I mourned deeply for them, but since my mom and I used to communicate by ESP, since there was no phone between the floors of our dual house farmhouse, I just continued talking to her in my "imagination," as usual. The answers I got, even if I was the one who made them up, sounded like what she'd say, so I felt comforted. I did that for about a year before the need to talk constantly with her faded away.
Presumably he was trying to tighten his nuts.

Ouch. I don't get the obsession men have with their genitals, LOL! Women sure don't care. In fact, huge penises can injure a woman's cervix. Most men with very small penises know how to pleasure women in other ways, which most women prefer anyway.

birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
You are in a beautiful part of the country..plenty of great places-national monuments, etc. where you can have a date. A date is a formal agreement to meet somewhere to do certain things. The first few dates are best done in public, driving separate cars, for safety.. I used to meet for a first date at a Bar-B-Q place at Cave Run Lake, near Morehead, KY, with a hike and rock climb afterward up Lockegee Rock, highest point in three counties. That way if the guy was a dud, I still got a great meal and had a wonderful hike, usually seeing many migrating bird species as they crossed the top of Lockegee on the migration flyway. One guy actually liked it, and wanted to do more hikes with me. He also loved that I did ballroom dancing and was eager to learn also. We were together for two years, having a great time star gazing, ballroom dancing, going to art museums, traveling together to Mexico, etc.
Hello fellow Atheists! I am enjoying the community on here.

I've seen it before, but I had to cry a little because the dance steps/music synchronization was breathtakingly perfect for most of it. My ex and I used to get several Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, and Marx Brothers from the library at a time, since we were avid jitterbug dancers. I love Uptown Funk, and most Bruno Mars songs, since he reminds me of Michael Jackson. I love this Marx brother's movie scene: 'A Day at the Races' (1937)—Lindy Hop scene. The Marx brothers insisted the black dancers be in the movie, despite the racism of their producers, and the dance scene inspired white kids to start doing the the LIndy-hop themselves, and it went mainstream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwKFALb6Vw8

birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
I think it's important. I appear to be a normal cis hetero woman, but I'm actually an androgyne partial transmale who is also demisexual. That means zero sexual attraction for anyone with whom I've not been in close association for OVER a year. I have a strong libido, but it's not toward a person or gender, and even talking about sexual details can make me feel revolted. However, once I've been with the person long enough, the problem is the opposite; I love gender-switching, fantasy play, costumes, mild S&M, etc., which would alarm most cis hetero men. But I'd only do that with someone with whom I've totally bonded..very slowly, who has already shown that he loves me for who I am, FIRST. Horn dogs looking for a quick sex partner would need to move along.

Most of the electricity the world uses comes from steam turbine driven generators. Right??
birdingnut comments on May 13, 2018:
There is no reason everyone can't have free energy through steam, from cars to heating your homes. FREE ENERGY FOR ALL! In 2012, Rice University scientists added metal and carbon nanoparticles to water, creating steam from nearly frozen water without it having to boil first. The nanoparticles have an efficiency of 82%, with less than 20% of the energy contributing to heating the liquid volume, using tiny solar panels of only a few square centimeters. The best solar panels, in contrast, only have a 15% efficiency. One model is a closed loop system where water in the steam is recaptured and returned to the boiler after it cools. Another other model heats waste water, turning it to steam to create distilled drinking water. Hmm...sounds like the logic I've heard from US scientists: Use plenty of deadly pesticides to get rid of insects on crops, use dangerous GMO crops (which kill insects that land on them) to get bigger yields, ship in food from long distances (so there will be weeks between harvest and purchase), wrap everything in toxic plastics (which get dumped into the oceans to enter the food chain). When people die of cancer, that means they need to take toxic chemotherapy and radiation. Nothing to do with their lifestyle or diet, of course. This question is for the fit members of this site. What do you do when you get injured?
birdingnut comments on May 12, 2018:
Instead of working out in a gym and risking tearing muscles, I do things that are natural..walking everywhere, usually over an hour a day, taking the stairs, carrying my groceries. At home, I do pull-ups from a wooden hoe handle I wedged into an upper corner above my wardrobe. For upper body, I use "gallopers," an invention I came up with in 2010, that not only gives the advantage and speed of being four-footed, but also slims the waist, makes you limber, develops the muscles of upper body/shoulders, and makes abs hard as rock after only a few minutes use. Furthermore, the gallopers are almost effortless to use, and fun! You can go up the steepest, rockiest slopes without slipping, and very little effort, since it uses gravity and your own weight to power you. No chance of injuries with that sort of work-out.

Dating after 50
birdingnut comments on May 11, 2018:
Yup..that sounds about right. Unlike you, though, I don't care. As a demisexual I have zero sexual attraction for any gender or person and I can take sex or leave it. If I start to feel a bit of desire at night, in a nonspecific way, I have a vibrator. As an androgyne, I can imagine I'm any gender I wish to achieve orgasm, and can imagine I'm doing it with any gender or combination thereof. When I think of myself as male, I have a quick, explosive orgasm, and when I think of myself as female, I have the long, slow build-up and extended orgasms. But I can also pretend I'm both at the same time and have such a tsunami orgasm that it almost knocks me out. Yet, like I said, I can take or leave it, and seldom do anything beyond getting the quickest results possible so I can get to sleep. Nevertheless, I'm usually inundated by interested men, perhaps because my disinterest in them romantically challenges their egos. I've learned to use disclaimers if men start hitting on me, casually informing them that I'm androgyne (mixed gender), a partial transmale, and a demisexual..including the definitions. You'd think that would make them take to their heels, but what usually happens is that men often seem happy to adopt me as a side-kick pal, perhaps because my behavior is very male, despite my appearance.

Do you like frozen yogurt?
birdingnut comments on May 11, 2018:
Depends. When I lived in Durango, CO, in 1979-83, there was a franchise that served a natural ingredient frozen yogurt that tasted BETTER than regular soft serve ice cream, and looked identical to it, except it didn't give me a stuffy head, or make my kids hyper as real ice cream did. It has since disappeared and I don't remember the name.
Alcohol Is A Major Risk Factor For Breast Cancer. Why Don't More Women Know?
birdingnut comments on May 11, 2018:
I've been seeing this on British news channel SkyNews. I don't drink now, but 15 years ago, I used to drink half a martini glass of fine aged wine in the evenings, for the pleasurable taste, and the warm, cozy buzz. I stopped when suddenly a deep wrinkle started appearing on my face, running from my eye to mouth every time I did this. When I skipped the wine, the wrinkle vanished, reappearing if I even had a TASTE of the wine. I thought it was unfair, but I gave away my newly purchased stash of expensive Biltmore Estate fine wine, aged for two years in oak barrels, to my ex, who was ecstatically grateful.

Some members of this website have already proven that someone can have a high IQ, be accomplished, highly educated, etc., and still be a total white racist supremacist. I usually block them whenever I encounter people like that here..alt-right nut jobs.
How to deal with religious family?
birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
No need to bring it up unless they do. Then just casually mention that you "don't believe that way anymore," and immediately change the subject. If they start in on you, repeat the sentence, while looking distracted and bored, then immediately wander out of the room. Do this every time they bring up religion, and it will soon train them to leave you alone. But if someone seems genuinely curious, then show them this video: The REAL Truth About Religion And Its Origins https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1068&v=88GTUXvp-50

Journal, anyone?
birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
I kept a journal since I was eight years old, but when I was nearly killed in 2014 when attacked by a mugger, I stopped writing in them. I realized that I was unable to go back and read the stories I'd written in my handwritten journals since I'd come to Thailand. Instead, I was pleased to find that Facebook was reposting old posts, which included my old Tweets-which has a feed to Facebook- I'd made over the past twelve years. I began copy/pasting them to gmail drafts. I don't know if they will survive constant technology updates, but they certainly are easier to read, and the very succinct content makes them a pleasure to read, plus there are photos.
Positive Thinking: A New Secular Religion?
birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
You are mistaken. The "placebo" affect alone proves that what we think affects us. People who have visual feedback can even regulate their heart beats, blood pressure, etc. We are ultimately made of energy and everything is connected. We are contributing to creating our own universe. “Consciousness is fundamental; matter is derived from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics

Hello there just replying saying hello be sociable please. Thanks again Monica
birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
Hi, Monica! You'll gain points and let members get to know you better if you write your profile and answer the profile questions, since that's the first place many people look. Then just keep making comments and posting your own posts to gain more points. You're probably at level two by now, and able to private message people.
This is another series I do, 'Atheist and Christian Speed Date'...
birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
The ones I can read are good, but some panels as too tiny to read. At any rate, the moment anyone in a speed dating event mentioned that they were religious, I'd be done.

birdingnut comments on May 10, 2018:
You mean like people believing that voting for a racist, xenophobic, misogynist, sexual predator will make America great? You mean, like believing that gorging on junk food won't affect your health? You mean, like thinking your one-use disposable plastic bags won't end up in the ocean, in the food chain? You mean, like spraying deadly pesticides on your lawn, pets, around your house, and believing it won't get into the ground water, food supply, or kill off the honeybees? People believe whatever is most convenient for THEM.
