Tonight I emailed and renounced my first university, a strict religious place when I was there.
birdingnut comments on May 31, 2018:
I did get an email from the Asbury University office this morning, saying they were sad I had abandoned my faith and that they'd put me on their prayer list. But they did offer to take me off their mailing list. I told them to please do so, adding that if they support Trump (the person who emailed me didn't respond to my Trump comments, implying they do support him) then their pretense of "holiness" was laughable. I actually feel bad a little bit, because it's obvious they aren't the brightest bulbs in the box..it's sort of like kicking guinea pigs. But since they are actively starting missions around the world, they are spreading hate, so I shouldn't feel bad. I now remember that when I first arrived, when it was still Asbury College, I had to fill out a very lengthy questionnaire about my beliefs, including questions to find out if I was gay. Back then I paid little attention to gender issues-and didn't even know what transgender people were .
Well Roseanne did it again, opened her big mouth with a racial slur.
birdingnut comments on May 31, 2018:
Well, Mel Gibson's 2006 drunken tirade against Jews got him blacklisted from the movie business for almost a decade, why not Roseanne? Gibson has since been allowed back in somewhat but in 2010 he made more racist comments, this time about "niggers." Since there wasn't a lot of press about it, perhaps he just doesn't matter as much to the public now.

birdingnut comments on May 31, 2018:
I've always sworn to myself by muttering in other languages. I try to use a language not used in my current location to avoid offending anyone, or at least mutter quietly. Here in Thailand I use Creole since many people know Spanish (Filipinos) and French, and every once in a while Thai know English cuss words. But sometimes, when startled, I reflexively use mild Thai swear words. If I want to tell someone off who is acting like a jerk, I switch to English if I know they don't speak it. One lady would mock me when I hit the wrong tonal pitch when speaking Thai words, even when I wasn't talking to her, so yesterday when she started jeering, I whirled to glare at her, and said in English, "Hey! Don't mock me!." She stopped, uncertain of what I'd said, but apparently it sounded dreadful enough to inspire a behavior change.

What is cultural appropriation as opposed to cultural appreciation?
birdingnut comments on May 30, 2018:
Dunno, but everyone loves ethnic food and many Caucasian women love to wear ethnic clothes, have pinatas at parties, do yoga, twist their hair into dreads, or braid their hair with beads, etc. People are taking their favorite cultural elements and using them for themselves, almost as a tribute. For instance, although I'm Caucasian American, live very much like a Thai; I wear Thai clothes and shoes, eat Thai food and shop at small Thai places, carry an umbrella for both sun and rain, drive a motorbike instead of a car, take off my shoes in my doorway, etc. Sometimes Thai people take me for a Thai and I have to tell them halfway through the conversation that I'm a foreigner.

But think of the noise pollution, not to mention air pollution. Plus, where can you find a place to park it at the grocery store without getting "keyed," LOL! How about the electric Tesla Roadster, a car that is silent and emission-free, but can go 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds and 0-100mph in 4.2 seconds- acceleration times for Formula 1 or World Rallycross drivers, while the claimed top speed of around 250mph is faster than either. A standing quarter mile is said to take just 8.9 seconds – the fastest time ever for production car if accurate. It’s not all about speed, though; a range of 620 miles is claimed, there’s space for four at a push thanks to a 2+2 layout and luggage space is said to be decent, too. Why are you crazy if you hear voices but hearing god is ok to most of society.
birdingnut comments on May 30, 2018:
Why not? Einstein showed us that all matter is a form of energy and energy can neither be created nor destroyed, so we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form. Since all energy is connected, no reason ESP or anything else can't exist. "For physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein. Besides, physics indicates that we are participating in creating our own universes/reality, so there's nothing "woo" about it. People can manipulate energy in ways that others may perceive as impossible. “I regard consciousness as fundamental and matter as derivative from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics

No reason she couldn't be reincarnated, or even move to another dimension. There are many books of research done on children ages 2-6 who remember past lives, and a few children who led even police to their past life bodies, if they had been murdered, and pointed out their murderers, who confessed. The details of the children's memories were carefully checked by researchers, and I know also about this by experience, since my sister and I could both remember a past life when we were born. According to Einstein; all matter is a form of energy, so since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form and quantum physics already tells us different dimensions exist. "For physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein. “I regard consciousness as fundamental and matter as derivative from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics

birdingnut comments on May 29, 2018:
That's easy..no fridge here in my Songkhla, Thailand, apartment. I do have a small cooler which holds ice, and this morning I had a kowtomaht roll (sticky rice wrapped around a minced mixed fruit center, all wrapped in banana leaves, and roasted) and a bag with a piece of fuktong squash (dunno the English name), a few pieces of some kind of lettuce, and a slice of corn on the cob in the cooler. But I already ate it all for lunch. I bought the bag of squash and stuff from a sidewalk vendor early this morning for 4 baht (12 cents). For breakfast, I had a single serving of canned mackerel, so don't need a fridge for that. I have a medium Nestles chocolate ice cream cannister in the apartment building office freezer. I'm not supposed to use it, but the lady manager is doing me a favor.

It's legal to so with European starlings in the US also, since they are an invasive species, and they make intelligent, if messy, pets.

Any advice on overcoming the sheer terror of teaching a teenager to drive?
birdingnut comments on May 26, 2018:
I taught my kids to drive on our Kentucky family farm when my daughter was eight and my son was 11, avoiding the surly, rebellious teen stage, when they were still young enough to be willing to do anything to drive. I knew that they'd probably steal the car for joy riding long before they were officially old enough to drive and I preferred they could drive safely. I did the same with swimming..they could swim like fish when toddlers. I made a game out it; I laid a newspaper section in the driveway and the first thing they had to do was to stop the old Oldsmobile with any wheel I designated, in the middle of the paper. After a week or so of practice they could both do this with ease, so next they had to drive zig-zag around traffic cones in the long driveway. Then they had to back the car through the cones, stopping and starting smoothly when told. Next, I let them take turns driving up the long holler road that ran beside our farm and up a steep gravel slope to a remote farm pond where we went swimming in summer. I'd have them start and stop the car on the slope without spinning the wheels in the gravel. By the end of that summer both those kids were experts, since we practiced daily for at least an hour and they were eager to do it, at that age.
Religious schools should not count as education.
birdingnut comments on May 26, 2018:
I got a fine education in our Haiti mission school, but we used CA correspondence courses. Years later I was a teacher for a year in a tiny private school that used Christian Alpha and Omega correspondence courses, and it was excellent. I suppose the science section taught Creationism, but it taught facts also. The main strength was the tiny classes and ability of students to work at their own speed. Most students were finished with that day's work by noon, so in the afternoon I taught all my students to speed read, read music to sing, piano lessons, tennis lessons, gave them advanced drama classes and we put on a semi-professional level play where students did everything, from lights to music, and I made the costumes. Kids I contacted later said that public school was breeze after that, since they could speed read entire text books in a few minutes, with perfect recall.

Whether you're agnostic or not, what are your thoughts on reincarnation?
birdingnut comments on May 25, 2018:
Why not reincarnation? According to Einstein, all matter is a form of energy, so since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we have always existed and will always exist in some energy form. "For us believing physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Einstein. Besides, physics indicates that we are participating in creating our own universes/reality, so there's nothing "woo" about it. People can manipulate energy in ways that others may perceive as impossible. “Consciousness is fundamental and matter is derived from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics Besides, both my sister and I were born remembering a past life, and I have since remembered many of them, and even googled one incident I remembered from a life in the 1940s, and the details were accurate. Here is list of books of research on children ages 2-6 who remember past lives. Researchers verified their stories, making sure the children had no means to access the details of those memories in any other way. Some children could even speak languages unknown in their current provinces, with cultural behavior to match, even though it wasn't that of their current families. Several children who had died violent deaths in a past life led police to their (past life) bodies then pointed out the murderers, who subsequently confessed. Aaaaw! My mom bred American Cocker Spaniels for about two generations, mostly to get a replacement for her aging dog. One pup was a strikingly beautiful golden colored one, who knew he was beautiful. Even as a puppy, if the camera came out, he was posing, and since he did it so well and was so photogenic, we couldn't resist.

Do you ever feel like there is no one else on the same plane of existence as you?

Fit in with whom? I was raised in multiple cultures at the same time.. my American parents and fellow missionaries in Haiti, the French/African culture of Haiti of most of my friends, the Spanish Domican Republic culture of many friends on the other side of the island, my Arab friends in town, whose parents owned most of the cloth shops, my French friends, who commuted to Paris, and owned many businesses my Haitian/European friends-Europeans who had married elite Haitians and also owned businesses. I speak and read English, Creole, Spanish, French, Creole, and some Thai and Japanese. I also am very high IQ, so that makes me different from the general US population. My dad is from a religious Spanish background, my mom from an upper class English background, and both have Native American ancestry so I'm sort of multiracial. I'm a partial transmale (I partly see myself as male), androgynous (I have mixed gender tendencies and hardwiring), nonbinary (I don't identify with either gender) demisexual (no sexual attraction to anyone except after a year and then to that one person), panromantic (I can fall in love with anyone), etc. so can be classified as LGBTQ. But most of all, I don't care what others think..I love myself and wouldn't be anyone else!

If anybody feels they can explain men to me, I'd appreciate that. I need a refresher course.
birdingnut comments on May 25, 2018:
When I used to get in male mode (I was gender fluid before I started taking derris scandens) I only wanted the same things..all the time: to find a bar to sit, drink beer and ogle pretty women-by the way, to me, ALL women were beautiful- while listening to cool music. Other than that, I wanted to watch, and bet on, every sport of every kind, even school kids playing soccer in the park. Or fighting beetles. My female side wouldn't allow beer drinking (it causes wrinkles) but I could look at women all I wanted, since as a demisexual, I feel no lust. But I observed that my somewhat "fellow" males, the real deals, seem to only want food, sex, beer, and sports also, except they don't have to deal with a limiting female side, except maybe their wives.

birdingnut comments on May 25, 2018:
That's weird..I'm more the one who feels like the religious nuts have a lot to explain for their crazy behavior and for electing Trump, refusing to stop believing his obvious lies. I challenge their beliefs if they post religious platitudes on Facebook, private messaging them to ask if they are a Trump follower also, then saying they share the blame for the killing of LGBTQ people, school shootings with military weapons, and oppression of minorities that has happened since his election. Then I defriend them. I don't give a rat's tail if they like me or not, and I also did this to most of my cousins already on my dad's side of the family, since they are staunch Trump and NRA-supporting, GOP Methodists. My mom's side of the family are liberal United Methodists who seldom attend church and really don't care,

birdingnut comments on May 24, 2018:
Yup..language limits what people can comprehend. That's why English is commonly used in science since many languages lack essential concept words. I.e., in Haitian Creole, almost any animal is a "bete," so not a good language for studying entomology, for instance.
Facts and Myths about sugar and our health
birdingnut comments on May 24, 2018:
I disagree with half of these assertions, perhaps sponsored by the sugar companies. My kids never ate sugar growing up, as they were home schooled, and I used cane molasses or fructose to sweeten things, but when well-meaning relatives slipped them sugary junk food snacks, they went beserk..bouncing off the walls, getting into screaming fits, getting drippy noses, etc. My diabetic dad's blood sugar stayed normal when he ate natural, whole food, but when he used sugar, it shot straight up. Whenever I ate something with white sugar, I got dizzy afterward, then weak, as in pre-diabetes, so I avoided it.
