@AlanMargu if money brought happiness then why and how would people who are poor ever find happiness? Also, I've met people with all their financial needs covered and they did not seem to be happy. Does my work help me find happiness? Yes, especially Friday at 5:30. However equally my work adds to my unhappiness. My job has a significant customer service portion and lots of days people just suck. Now, I have savings and retirement funds, but I'm too young to qualify for Medicare and private health insurance is way too expensive for me. My job adds to my security and therefore my happiness by providing my health insurance. But then is that work or slavery?

And if you do it for money, doesn't it become work?
HippieChick58 replies on Jul 7, 2018:
@maturin1919 but IF I have a deadline, and pressure, then it becomes work. I love to make quilts and sew. I love it because it relaxes me, and it is fun. I can go in an work on a quilt for however long I have and enjoy it. IF I have a deadline it becomes less fun. I have to make time to work on it. It becomes something else to be ticked off a list. If I have to sell that quilt to make money so I can afford to do the next quilt, then there is another hurdle. And if I am making a quilt to someone else's color and pattern choices... I made a quilt for new grandson, would never have chosen the colors but that was the colors the baby's mama wanted. I'm glad I did, they love it and use it, but is not my favorite project. As for my current job, yes there are things I love about it, like the paycheck and benefits, and I help people. Downside is pressure, stress and sometimes people are just freaking mean and crabby even when you're doing the right things. Definitely work

Started making burritos and all of a sudden thought all those beans in the pot are so pretty.
Sheannutt comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I love beans except for two different kinds that would be black bean and lima beans.
HippieChick58 replies on Jul 2, 2018:
I am with you on the Lima beans. Those and peas are never in my house. Black beans are consumed fairly frequently.

How To Make Your Own Vanilla Extract Making your own vanilla extract is actually very simple.
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 1, 2018:
I don't bake as much as I used to, but I still have vanilla beans in 100-proof vodka in my pantry. Man that stuff is dark, been there for 3 or 4... or 5 years. I also made vanilla sugar and vanilla salt. Cut up the beans and mix into salt or sugar, let it sit, shake every few months. Gives the salts...

It is a bit of a double standard. Girls need to dress conservatively because "boys can't control themselves". Yet when boys act like animals, and harass girls anyway, it's "boys will be boys".

@ErichZannIII I just restated, you did fine. And I really appreciate that you said it. It seems that many males in my age group haven't made that connection yet.

@Storybook I am directionally challenged at the best of times. If I am going someplace new I will use google maps, and if I am leaving an unfamiliar place after dark I will use it. It is also handy for showing the fastest route, which as I am an impatient driver is very good. I also have an old Garmin GPS in my car as back up. I love my Google Maps.

IKR! I am 100% certain that 75% of evangelical xians have NOT read the Buybull. I'm guessing the figure is really higher. They go listen to the pastor and get their tickets punched, believe they're on the fast track to heaven. And the pastor is looking for more money, tells them what they want to hear so they will dig deeper in their pocket and buy him a new jet. Most of them aren't even going to church, they get their church from the TV or fishin.
Amazing.

Why does it seem in modern society that we need some form of validation from others?
Ellatynemouth comments on Jun 30, 2018:
We all need validation.
HippieChick58 replies on Jul 1, 2018:
@jlynn37 No, that was not what I meant to convey. If you continually do not get validation then I think it adds to mental illness. Children who grow up in abusive homes for example. Did you ever see "Mommy Dearest"? Children especially, but we all need positive feedback. My previous job, when we screwed up they made sure we knew and management did not go to bat for us. Current job, when we screw up we're coached on what we did wrong and what would have likely worked better. Lots of positive feedback.
Amazing.

We are always amicable, we can carry on civil conversations; its like we know where NOT to go. But our relationship also taught me things to look for. I was pretty stupid at 24, it took me a while to realize how condescending he was. It took me a long time to realize I did not come first, or second, and we could debate third. But, live and learn, and we're wiser for the pain.
