@dahermit it is base 10. like money. I know how big a meter is, and 1000 meters is a kilometer. I can grasp that quickly.

@atheist I think if both the kids are close to the same age it's "ok", not preferred but understandable. When it is an underage person with an older person, not so OK depending on the age spread. There were several stories in the local news in the last few years, a couple of challenged individuals had connected, the girl got pregnant. The male was older and therefore an adult when in reality she was intellectually older than he was. Neither was intellectually fully capable. I don't remember the outcome but it was a heartbreaking story with the way the state laws are written, and why I am a proponent of birth control.

I always tried to encourage waiting, but if you couldn't wait think about and prevent possible consequences. I got all my kids into their 20s before any babies arrived. I asked my youngest once whens he was about 16 what she would call teenagers who got careless and carried away. (she had been cuddling with her bf when her dad walked in on them). She answered "stupid teenagers" and I answered, "No, I'd call them parents." I could see the light dawning, it was amazing! I've always been pro birth control with teenagers just for that reason.

@Jrduke01 When you get a gift, the appropriate response is "Thank you." You don't need to say any more about it. Then you can do with it what you please, use it as a doorstop or give it away. If you are asked about your faith or lack thereof you can be non committal. My dad used to reply to nosy questions by asking if we were writing a book, and if we said yes he'd tell us to leave that chapter out. If you treat it like it is no big deal the more likely they're going to treat it like no big deal.
